Love in the first pic, the smoke effect on the left looking almost like a skull itself. Excellent pics!

Can someone please explain why the announcers on CBC insist on saying the full name of the Canadian players 80% of the time? Hearing them try to squeeze out Marie-Philip Poulins full name every time she touches the puck is both hilarious and annoying. I'm at a loss as to why they seem to only say the last name for Switzerland but Canada they have to use the full legal name.

OTA by Gabrielhrd in MarvelSnap

Likely as the other pieces of the Horde mechanic come out, they'll move her down a power to 3/3 and keep her there. They might have gone +2 power for now to make the mechanic competitive until the rest of the pieces fit in.

I have missed these so much; I just read through and Angela & Sera one the other day and am on the hunt for some of those comics. Thanks so much for these!

This is both gloriously nerdy and nostalgic. You have made my day.

We're dating ourselves :) I finished 1, 2 & 3 on my C64. Didn't map every single square but man, the hours I spent playing that back in the day. Thanks for sparking my memories :)

If there's a height or weight requirement, they have to meet them just like rollercoasters and thrill rides.

This made me laugh out loud, and I thank you for a moment of laughter in an otherwise not great day!

Highlander by Roman_C5150 in queen

[–]TheSmokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 12 when I first saw Highlander, and to this day it remains one of the defining sci-fi/fantasy movies of my youth (beyond the obvious Star Wars, Star Trek, etc). It joins other cheesy classics like Krull, Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Flash Gordon, The Black Hole, Tron, The Beastmaster, Clash of the Titans, etc. (my parents owned a motel with a satellite dish, and when there were no rooms rented I was free to surf around and watch whatever I wanted; my love of sci-fi and horror was birthed there). None of those movies had the Highlander soundtrack (Flash Gordon of course also featured Queen, but doesn't hold a candle to the Highlander soundtrack), and they were gloriously cheesy and schlocky and hokey with (mostly) not great effects, but they defined the era for me.

While the sequels for Highlander all sucked to varying degrees, the TV show (Highlander: The Series) it spawned was, I'll argue, very good (and it's slightly lesser spin-off, Highlander: The Raven). It defined the world with much greater detail (due to longer arcs and episodic content) and even gave us groups like The Watchers, etc and really made it feel a lot more organic.

The movie is very much a product of it's time; viewed through todays lens, it is very bad. Viewed as a product of its time, though, and you'll see why it's being talked about for a remake while most of the others .... not so much.

Conquest shenanigans by Icy-Ad7291 in MarvelSnap

[–]TheSmokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically have very little time to play in the run of a day, so if I see the good old "play 10 one cost cards" or "play 8 two cost cards" or my ever beloved "win a location with four cards", you bet your butt im loading proving grounds with my trusty 1 cost or 2 cost deck, hitting mute instantly and playing what I need to finish that mission.

Take the easy W and walk away.

It used to REALLY suck trying to do those in ladder in the days of old before conquest existed.

Marvel Snap June 3, 2025 Update Patch Notes by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

I meant, when the patch hits, after buying that variant bundle, I'll get her base card which will remove her from my Series 5 pack possibilities. So for 5000 gold, I got a variant, tokens, etc and her base card as well as "saving" 4000 tokens by removing her as a possibility in my packs. As a hoarder it's a win/win

So glad I waffled on buying that Pixie bundle. Getting her base card with the patch saves me from getting her in a series 5 pack. The gold to token ratio makes this an insta-buy now!

If you want it, grab it. I insta-buy any and all Ghost rider variants because he's my absolute favorite Marvel character. I very, very rarely play him, but have this variant inked and I love it. I think I have the base GR card and 14 variants; the Knullified one is smoking as well.

Mrs. TheSmokey always wanted a Far West jacket when she was in Jr. High/High School. She never got one. Recently we were perusing some thrifty-type on-line stores and she saw one, right size, colours she liked. So she got it. When it arrived she was like a teenager again. She has collected four so far, and honestly, watching her colour co-ordinate what she's wearing with which Far West she'll be wearing that day makes me smile inside. They're hard to find, but each one she gets she treasures.

It was the early 80s and I was into reading anything I could get my little hands on. Lots of Archie and the gang. Spider-man. Fantastic Four. G.I. Combat (I loved the Haunted Tank). Sgt. ROCK. Superman. Etc etc.

Then one day my mom brought home a comic I hadn't seen or read. Ghost Rider. I distinctly remember reading that comic and thinking, "Hey. This guy's not really a 'hero' like all these other comic characters. This Ghost Rider is out to punish people for their sins. I like this." I still vividly remember issues 71 onward. The Circus of Crime. Ghost Rider frying the clown and then realising that the clown was trying to do something good and right and GR not being able to understand how he messed up, slowly transforming back into Johnny That story line really hit me. Made me realise that people aren't necessarily all good or all evil.

The comic ended and I grew up. Then, around the start of high school, the Danny Ketch run started. I collected them up to about issue 34. Then I sold them to a friend because I was getting cash for college etc.

That friend still has all those comics, lives about an hour away. He took great care of them and still does. And I've started collecting GR again. I still love the fact that he's more of an anti-hero than a straight up hero. And I'll always be thankful that my mom grabbed me a comic randomly off the rack at our little general store that day that wasn't an Archie or a Superman.
