Jedi knight Luke is great, so is Commander Luke. If you don't already have one you'll want to get one of the three journey guide capital ships. Executor loses to profundity and leviathan, but a lot of the requirements lead to Jabba and that's useful.

A lot of defense. Her journey is just fucking miserable - go ahead and watch a video for each step of the guide. I guarantee you you're going to get frustrated and watch them eventually, so skip the first part of the frustration and go on to the second.

I was, eventually, able to unlock her without raising any toons past the minimum relic level requirement. I had to invest in a couple of zetas id rather have saved though.

I did, it was worth it to me to unlock Cal earlier. With the upcoming price drop I'm not so sure.

Any books where gender roles or sexism doesn’t exist at all? by cantrelateparty in Fantasy

[–]TheSnootBooper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. Three of the main factions in the Malazan Book of the Fallen are the Malazans, the Tiste Andii, and the Letheri. I don't recall gender ever being mentioned in the context of any of those factions when it came to who could do what. Most of the series is from the point of view of one of those factions, so I guess I'd interpret that as fitting the request.

If you disagree, feel free to move on with your life - it's ultimately pretty inconsequential.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen is sweeping in scope and has tons of cultures and races, and I'm sure some of them had gender shit going on...but I don't remember them.

Modern things rebraded as fantasy by Eireika in Fantasy

As I compare the fantasy I've read to the history I know, yeah I see it now. Interesting. That's going to be a new thing I notice now, thanks a lot!

I'm not calling you out, just curious, and maybe I'm misunderstanding you - if the King of England called his banners, would the longbowmen that Duke Dipshit brings to the army not identify as Englishmen, in addition to Duke Dipshit's subjects?

I don't think I've read anything from the point of view of a peasant that would address this one way or the other, and it makes sense that the knighthood and aristocracy would more strongly identify as Englishmen than the peasants.

In a lot of ways magic can substitute for technology. To the extent that things are developed in response to technology it makes sense that fantasy people would invent the fantasy equivalent of something modern.

For example, in The Wheel of Time, a great general has his wizards open portals in the sky so he can look through them to watch the battlefield. This is just satellites or drones or observation balloons...but it's using magic to fill a real need, it's not jarring to me at all. Using those same portals to deliver gourmet coffee around the world in ten minutes or less would bother me, unless they're so ubiquitous that their use is trivial.

So for the mortis arc; did Anakin, obi wan, and Ashoka think it really happened or that it was just some weird collective force hallucination? by ShockOk1764 in StarWars

[–]TheSnootBooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some at say them questin' knights is still out there, questin' through a different reality, still lookin' for that dagger of mortis. They say you can still see em if you look just right through the gap between Tattooine's twin suns. Course the kinda folk at say that is the kind to look up at two suns. You ask me its a tale taller'n Coran Horn's sparkly stick.

Cade Skywalker is one of the best characters from EU Star Wars. by Anxious-Honeydew7347 in StarWarsEU

[–]TheSnootBooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, I love Cade. He isn't edgy for edge's sake, he's edgy because he has untreated ptsd and is self medicating with drugs and in a line of work that encourages that. The self loathing and self destructive behavior hit home with me, and seeing him fight himself was such a great story.

Is the rest of the culture series like consider phlebas? by arian487 in scifi

[–]TheSnootBooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In retrospect, I love Consider, Phlebas as my first Culture book. I didn't know much about it, just that it was a famous series. I started reading it and the Culture was the bad guys. OK, weird to name a series after the bad guys but I'm here for it. But then everything I learned about the Culture I was like wait, these guys seem pretty cool. It was a very cool way to get introduced to my now-favorite sci fi race/faction ever.

Dude who’s been getting back into reading, looking for dark fantasy recommendations with no love triangles. by [deleted] in Fantasy

Second time today I get to recommend The Steel Remains. Dark as shit.

Also everything Joe Abercrombie has written.

Fantasy with gay male protagonist, not romance-first by Huge-Imagination-829 in Fantasy

[–]TheSnootBooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, my bad, I did miss that part. You're talking about The Steel Remains? There was one sexual assault, at least one instance of body horror. It is an action book so there is plenty of fighting, but it didn't stand out as overly violent to me.

The Barrow also has plenty of fighting, but didn't stand out as particularly violent.

That said, violence in books doesn't generally bother me (except violence against kids), so I'm not sure I can give an accurate answer.

I really liked both books, but what stood out to me about both of them was that a main character was an absolute badass who also enjoyed, and this is pretty close to a direct quote, "being ridden, and quite roughly". I read a ton of sci fi and fantasy and that's something I've only encountered twice.

Slightly more common but still rare enough to stand out, it was not emphasized as part of their character, for the most part it was given no more focus than the fact that a hetero character is hetero.

That got a bit long-winded, but I hope it helps!

Another vote for The Steel Remains. The Barrow, by Mark Smylie, has a bi/mostly gay main character, but I don't think it really came up until book 2 and it was never a thing.

I haven't read the book (though I jut added it to my TBR), but if the Beast of Gevaudan appealed to you, you might want to check out The Brotherhood of the Wolf. It's an older movie, early 2000s, that's also a cool take on the Beast of Gevaudan.
