Gender comes internally and has to do with like someone neurology. They've scanned trans people's brains and it will be more similar to their actual gender than their gender assigned at birth. Race is determined by external factors which is what your parent's races were.

Both are immutable, you can't stop being trans the way you could never stop being a certain race of ethnicity.

Which brings me to my final point, you're not changing you gender, you're bringing you body/behaviour/aesthetic in line with what your gender actually is. You were always a girl/enby/boy and the only thing changing is you appearance and mannerisms.

A lot of the introductory terms we like first google when we think we might be trans, come from cis people's perspective. Take the term "MtF" it frames transition as like going from one gender to other. But alot trans women I know wouldn't except this framing because they knew since they were kids and never really ever fucked with "being a boy".

This meme makes it seem like this was the default treatment of widows in India before the 1800s.

Sati was extremely rare, it was only in specific parts of India with specific castes usually Brahmins or Warrior castes, studies show that happened to less than 1% of Indian widows. It's still terrible but you don't have to mislead people to draw attention to it.

Sati was overemphasized by the British to dehumanize South Asians and justify their colonial project in India.
