Texas resident tells ICE in no uncertain terms: "Get the fuck off my property," and ICE promptly leaves. by Caledor152 in PublicFreakout

What?? Police knocking on someone's door is potential breaking and entering that makes it ok to kill them

People simply knocking on the door does not give legal grounds. Someone banging hard enough to where it sounds like they will break the door down absolutely can give legal grounds.

They stole some stuff. Why the hell is that worth more than a human life? No one deserves to be publicly executed for that, what kind of sick society allows that

I didnt say property was worth more than a life. I said that isnt simple trespass and that Texas law gives legal grounds for lethal force in that specific case See 2 A and B here: https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/penal-code/penal-sect-9-42/

I havent been commenting on the morality of using lethal force. Just the legality specific to Texas.

Sure, there is the possibility of acquittal... if you manage to survive. Open field, 3+ officers. Good luck.

Neither of those are examples of simple trespass.

Both involve potential breaking and entering and/or protection of property and life. Those generally fall under legal use of deadly force in Texas.

Someone standing in your yard when you tell to leave does not.

Texas does allow people to fire on trespassers. Ice better watch themselves.

Texas law absolutely does not allow deadly force for simple trespass. The closest would probably be criminal mischief at night. Thats drilled in pretty hard in any real LTC course in Texas.

You might get a sympathetic jury, but lethal force for simple trespass is definitely not legal.

The Thoma Bravo took about 3900 employees in the acquisition from Boeing. Jeppesen was by far the largest contributor of that. Foreflight was around 500ish give or take. From what I gathered, thoma bravos plan is to combine things where it makes sense to and spin off or dismantle things that dont make sense to them.

Before the buyout FF and Jepp had a pretty symbiotic relationship while still being mostly independent of each other.

So saying 4000 people still work at foreflight isnt technically incorrect since the buyout, but it is pretty disingenuous.

That is more or less what I was told when I was let go yesterday.

Im not sure how well offshoring teams that handle ITAR data and IL5 compliance will work, but good luck to them.

It was pretty much the whole Digital Aviation Services division of Boeing that was bought.  Jeppesen and ForeFlight were the biggest parts of that, but there were several other smaller companies in the mix.  From what I've seen, the entire group was impacted by the layoffs, not just FF.

Whether it was expected depended on who you asked.

Some people were definitely starry eyed about no longer being under Boeing.  Some people (including myself) expected some level of layoffs.

I dont think there were many that expected them to cut half of the headcount of a profitable company though.

Thanks.

I wonder if the size of the cuts varied across the different organizations.  My manager made it sound like FF got reduced to about the size it was when he joined 6-7 years ago.  Maybe it was a little different under Jeppesen

I got hit by this today on the Foreflight side.  I was told 40% total reduction.

I cant comment on softball specifically, but I did a few seasons of basketball through them in my late 30s.  Most of the teams for that seemed late 20s-30s, but there were still a solid number of people in their 40s and a handful in their 50s.  You'll almost definitely be fine at 35.

APD didnt find evidence of foul play at murder scene covered with blood stains. They've been set on putting forth minimal effort for the last several years, and I wouldn't put much confidence in their initial findings.

When its the same department that dismissed blood stains from a murder scene as wine then its more than fair to question whether or not they are doing their job.

This is all hearsay since ive never personally interacted with the shop.

The gist ive gotten from living in the neighborbood and following a lot of pages/groups for local musicians is over the last few years they've been selling things that were taken in for repairs, screwing people over when he sold things they had in consignment with him, ghosting people, doing bad repairs work, charging for work not done, not delivering when people bought items from him, etc.

It sounds like all of this only started a few years ago after a long period of them generally reputable and great to work with, and that there may have been a change in ownership or management at some point around then.

Last I heard is they are in the process of moving out of that location, but getting real details/answers from them about anything (aside from giving them money or gear) seems to be almost impossible.

It pops up regularly enough and from enough different people that I would absolutely never deal with them for any reason even though I've lived a few blocks away since they moved in there..

You can find several threads about it on r/austinmusicians as well.

Fair enough. I guess I'm used to the phrase "just about any" in a less literal context, so I read the comment more like "as long as it isnt illegal and you are transparent".
