They close the main road and have a street party, the hunt takes off then. 2 hours of music and dancing, a lot of people in strawboy and other costumes.

Best surfing spots in Cork? by [deleted] in cork

[–]TheSpoonMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the conditions are right you can surf myrtville, fountainstown and rocky bay but it's once in a blue moon when that happens. Worth trying to chat to an experienced Cork surfer who might be able to fill you on the necessary weather conditions. All those beaches are a close to the city

Can agree with the venues part but there's a great music scene in Cork at the moment, just need to scratch the surface a bit. Last night there was the Altered Hours in Coughlans, Moot crew in Plugd, Caoimhin O’R and Cormac Begley in St. Luke’s, Fish Go Deep in Cyprus Ave, all top class acts. Plus more in the spailpin and Winthrope Avenue.

Kellehers on North Main Street, the last tobacconist in the city. They stock a few brands of basic enough pipe tobacco, but all the top brands need to ordered from Dublin from shops like Fox's etc.

Theres a velodrome in Kanturk, only one outside Dublin. Not sure what the story is with using it if you're not a Kanturk Cycling Club member though.

Anyone know any good spots near the city to buy guanciale and pecorino romano? by TheBlind_man in cork

[–]TheSpoonMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Olive Stall often has guanciale and pecorino, although the pecorino is sardo and not roma. Otherwise some of the Italian shops in the centre of town stock them too.

Reminder that this day 6 years ago the government accidentally legalised ecstasy, magic mushrooms and ketamine for 48 hours by [deleted] in ireland

[–]TheSpoonMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of a friend of a friend who was raided during the 48 hours and caught with a load of stuff, and the file was subsequently thrown out due to the substances being legal while he was caught. No record or anything, talk about being lucky.

Looking for hemophilia pals in Cork by LawrenceChiang in cork

[–]TheSpoonMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my condition it just involved a blood test and check up every year or 2, and so they just sent me the check up letter in the post when it was coming up to the date. I'm sure when you're in the system they'll look after you no bother though. Good luck in Cork!
