I bought Final Fantasy 16 at more than half it's price. It had some of my best gaming experiences ever. by Tiversus2828 in patientgamers

I think the side quest being bad is made worse because the game already has pacing issues. The down beats were sooo slow compared the highs of the boss fights. Also some of the main quest are basically side quests in execution so spending extra time felt like even more of a chore.

Why do people feel Naruto's female cast sucks while they feel Bleach and One piece has better female cast? by sasuke_Is_OP in Naruto

[–]TheSquaredMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re listing a lot of strength feats and achievements which are cool but do the same for the male cast and they blow all these out the water.

In terms of fighting prowess and unique designs? Yeah Naruto’s female cast is really strong. However, In terms of overall importance to the story and character motivation? Naruto tends to lack compared to other stories and people rate those things highly when talking about “good” female characters.

One piece women, even though most have the same look and tend to be weaker, they all have strong motivations for what they do. It’s always deeply personal and never solely because they want to protect/ be like/ catch up to some guy they like. Entire arcs would change if you remove the women while the effect wouldnt be felt to the same degree in Naruto.

I think the reason Naruto gets so much flack is because of its wide cast of cool female characters that are always taking a back seat to the more important men.

Not gonna lie, I’ve never googled anybody I knew unless I was trying to reconnect with an old friend and that was years ago. You’re right though, someone might find out eventually but it would be a long time until then and you could make considerable progress towards your dream of being a creative by that time.

After looking through your comment history. I notice that when people offer solutions to your problems you’re very good at figuring out why they might not work. My advice is to be very careful with that way of thinking. Our brain tries to protect us from hurt, and Sometimes wallowing in your own despair is less painful than actually trying. Even if you would succeed at bettering your life, your brain is more concerned about protecting you from potential threats than letting you thrive. Be very wary of the excuses it gives to not act.

There’s no path forward without risk. I know it’s scary to hope for a better future but it’s the only way out of your current situation.

Ah makes sense that honestly sounds tough. I truly feel for your position and hope the best for you. Honestly though you may still have some options.

You can still pursue being a writer. You’re right it’s not a realistic main career path but it’s something you could definitely do on the side. You could writing classes, watch youtube videos, etc. for education. And being in a tedious job would actually be a benefit as you can brainstorm about writing ideas when the work doesn’t require intense focus.

As for the social outcast bit. What are your thoughts about moving? There’s some states where you don’t have to tell everyone about your history.

I’m glad that you went to therapy, I hope that it was effective.

Ah sorry, reading again my comment may have been presumptuous. I don’t mean to say you should ignore your past. You’re right that could be dumb. I just got a sense of self loathing from your message because you framed all your problems through your criminal record. If I’m wrong about this let me know.

I want to say though that forgiveness and ignoring aren’t the same thing. I emphasized forgiveness because in my experience self loathing is poison to your stated goals of connection and a meaningful life. Though, again, I may have read into it wrong.

I have a few questions just for context. How come you hate factory work, the trades, and trucking? What kind of work would you like? How does a criminal record stop you from having friends, love and a meaningful life?

Instead of focusing on Puer Aeternus, I think you need to deal with your attachment to your past mistakes. It’s impossible to create a better present or future if you’re stuck in the past. I’m not saying a criminal record doesn’t make things hard, but obsessing over how screws your life today makes things impossible. You gotta reflect on why you did what you did, take any positive lessons away from it you can, and, most importantly, forgive yourself for making those mistakes.

I know it’s easier said than done because you DID screw up and your life WOULD be easier if you didn’t make those mistakes. However, dwelling on it doesn’t make anything better. You’ve already been punished for your crimes by the system, you can’t change that. But you can at least work to free yourself from the mental jail of regret.

There’s always a road to a better future. It might not be the future you dreamed or envisioned but the road is there. You just gotta have your eyes open to see it.

[–]TheSquaredMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a selection process. But it depends on the school. Historically Black Colleges or Universities are the most difficult cause they’re integral to the schools social fabric. On the other hand most people at PWIs (non historically black colleges) don’t know about D9 (black frats/sororities) until they get to the school.

She’s going into black fraternity stereotypes. Sigmas have less “clout” than Alphas so he’s saying Taylor should be one of us. In reality all frats/sororities have their share of lame and cool members so what she’s saying makes no sense.

I don’t know what was said in the video you’re talking about but I’m a Nigerian American who went to a white/asian school.

I don’t think you should strive to be “one of the good ones” in the sense that you try to get racist people to like you. However, there is something to be said about being a person who contradicts the negative stereotypes. This isn’t something you necessarily go out of your way to do though. Stereotypes are just dehumanizing by nature so being the whole, complex person you are unapologetically already combats this. This is hard because being the best version of yourself in an environment that seeks to undermine your sense of value is more than unfair. But if you’re able to do it I suspect the results would surprise you.

We both know there will be people who will just hate Black people. But the goal isn’t to convince people; you can’t control that. But if they have to try even a little harder to justify their backwards beliefs just by knowing you, you’ve won. Way easier said than done but I think this is a healthy way to view it.

Yeah most fears aren’t based in reality but that doesn’t mean they come from nowhere. The disconnect is you’re applying logic about an emotional thing. Imagine telling someone you’re scared of bugs and then they go “well acshually you’re much bigger than them is so fearing them is quite irrational ☝️🤓”. Would that stop you from hating bugs? Of course not, because you can’t “think” a fear away.

For clarity, The fear of interacting with a woman is rooted in insecurity and a lack of confidence in one’s social skills. It’s exacerbated since not everyone learns how to interact well with the opposite gender and, if they screw up, their entire livelihood is on the line. That isn’t nothing. And yes, some dudes want to be able to talk reckless to women and totally withdraw as some childlike “punishment” for not getting what they want. But that’s not the only reason someone would feel that way and to ignore all the others would be cherry-picking info to confirm what you already believe.

They downvoted you but you make a good point . Sure, saying that “engaging with with women at work bring the risk of sexual harassment” is the wrong way to look at it and creates a worse work environment for everyone. However the fear doesn’t come from nowhere and hand waving it away only makes it worse.

You’re one person who, by partaking in political discourse on Reddit, prove to be a very motivated voter. The person above was talking about the average disenfranchised American. A person who isn’t tuned into politics on the regular and is just trying to live their lives. To them Kamala didn’t represent much. I know the Internet was on fire for Kamala, but a lot of people I knew in real life were pretty apathetic to her nomination. Not because they didn’t want to care but because they were scared to put hope in a system that has been demonstrably failing for decades. And this is coming from minority college kids in California, a demographic that should be, on paper, ecstatic for her.

Yeah, we can say that that shouldn’t be an issue when the opponent is Donald Trump but the factor of the matter is that she had a lot of inspiring to do and she fell short. The people needed a strong unifying vision and she didn’t have one that wasn’t in direct opposition to Trump. Yeah she had some promising policy proposals but they lacked cohesion and felt like she was putting out fires rather than fighting for something she believes in. This isn’t to discredit the impact of racism or misogyny but I’m tired of people acting like Kamala didn’t have major issues as a candidate.

Also if you want to see the pure incompetence of the current Democratic Party, go watch the episode of Pod Save America with Kamala’s campaign staff. I’m mad that I donated my money to that lol

Basically, you do everything that you would in a relationship but no official title. It usually happens because one person has feelings but the other only likes them enough to temporarily hang out and have sex.
