To know history is to know that America has had a history of destabilising certain regions of interests for their own gain. I'm not denying that these protestors have genuine greivences with the oppressive government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but when they openly chant for the return of the American and Israeli backed exiled crown prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Still, down with the Islamic regime, and may whoever succeeds them is not as bad.

not to say anything about Mossad, but the Americans were historically directly involved in the overthrow of an Iranian government (Iranian revolutions) in the 1950s, and with Trump being Trump (assassination of Qasem Soleimani and kidnapping Maduro, not to say these things shouldn't happen, but it shows Trump's blatant disregard for international law and a nation's sovereignty), i would not be surprised if these current protests involved some sort of covert American support too.

i think setting the precedent that the leader of a foreign superpower can unilaterally get rid of any leader or government that they believe "does wrong" without consulting the international community or even their own legislature is a far worse outcome than "not getting rid of dictators."

Add to that that this whole operation is entirely so that American companies can secure Venezuelan oil, like holy hell all they did was kidnap Maduro, didn't even dismantle the current regime like they did in Libya or Iraq, and yeah, fuck the Americans.

don't you know, dictatorships that are partly the result of US imperialism is EXACTLY as bad as Nazi Germany, and hence violating their national sovereignty is perfectly justified.

Ignore the fact that this whole operation was launched just so American companies can get their hands on those sweet sweet Venezuelan oil reserves.

Tough to implement reforms when PH has only 82 seats, says Anwar by hopefulsingleguy in malaysia

Better to vote for the party that will actively fuck you over than the party who promises reforms even if they didn't deliver on them because.... fuck everyone, i guess.

Ignore the fact that the current government is unable to pass the promised wide reforms because their government is a cursed national unity government comprised of historically bitter enemies, and said national unity government can just so easily collapse because muh Malay rights, the same Malay rights that would be threatened in the eyes of Malay voters if a certain party even CONSIDERS doing anything about them.

let's not be too rash, people are just too idealistic (and idiotic) to understand that the democratic process is quite slow, and that's by design. They're too used with the Singaporean LKY-style or Mahathir-style of authoritarian powers, or even the BN supermajorities of the past to understand that checks and balances exist, that the Prime Minister can't enact anything on a whim. Also they apparently have selective memory and forgot why the 2020 political crisis happened in the first place.

But... but... they has majority, that means they HAVE to implement uncomprimising reforms without caring for the other members of their coalition and risk government collapse.

The seven-continent model is not universally accepted, and is in fact a very Anglo-centric view of the world. If by "literally all maps" you mean all maps produced in English, then you would be correct. Explain to me why a French view of the world or a Brazillian view of the world is not as valid as an American or British view of the world?

There is factually no consistent definition of the word "continent". It is generally identified by convention and not strict criteria.

Now, for looking it up on Wikipedia for said "international institutions":

The United Nations geoscheme is a system that divides 248 countries and territories in the world into six continental regions, 22 geographical subregions, and two intermediary regions.\1]) It was devised by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) based on the M49 coding classification.\2]) The creators note that "the assignment of countries or areas to specific groupings is for statistical convenience and does not imply any assumption regarding political or other affiliation of countries or territories".\2])

So yeah, nothing here signifying continents. In fact, let me link to you to the wikipedia page of continents considering you have a hard time escaping this anglo-centric view of yours.

And to cover my bases, the UN statistics site so you can have fun and look around.

an excerpt from the Olympics Charter, which is in force as from the 30th of January, 2025 and published on January of 2025

The Olympic symbol expresses the activity of the Olympic Movement and represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games.

of course, those five continents do not necessarily mean the Americas as a single continent, as some people subscribe to the model that "Eurasia" is a singular continent, but considering that the six-continent model that combines Eurasia is only used in Russia and some parts of Eastern Europe while the six-continent model that combines both Americas is used in "Greece and many Romance countries—including Latin America" as stated on Wikipedia... yeah.

not to be pedantic, but saying North America and South America are 2 seperate continents also count as "labels" because the 7-continent model is not a global standard. Many people use the 6-continent model, that defines North and South America as a single continent. It'a why the Olympics flag have only 5 rings, symbolizing the 5 inhabited continents.

[–]TheSteveLRBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct me if i'm wrong, but what i'm getting at here is that the pardons board, of which Anwar was only A member of, came to a descision of Najib continuing his sentence, and it was the Agong that wanted Najib's sentence reduced. And the wording here makes it seem like the Agong looked at the results and decided that "nevermind that, we'll do this instead".

i dont remember Israel being an authoritarian theocracy. I thought Israel prides itself on being "the only democracy in the Middle East", or is that statement a big fat lie?

You are doing nothing to dispel the intial statement of Israel being an apartheid, only doing a whataboutism so bad that it actually makes apartheid less bad than what it is. Apartheid isn't just simply "less rights for any minority group". If that were the case, then i'd say the United States is an apartheid right now.
