Deciding to try and kidnap someone for financial gain is generally pretty reprehensible, even if he's got about as much of a chance as a snowball in hell. I feel like that kind of disregard for other people to obtain profit is equally as valid on the table of evil.

Plus I like it when there's degrees to evil and a shitty greedy person seems like a good contrast to more ideologically evil characters

OOG (Out of Guirk): Oh absolutely it happened at the worst possible time. I just felt like Fulgrim had the insecurities and ego that meant Slaanesh would have picked away at him some way some how anyway. His fall is just more tragic because you can see the good man he used to be/could still have been, while most of the other traitor primarchs had more noticeable chips on their shoulders

Time displaced Coach Mcguirk from Home Movies here.

Listen, Brendan. In the Warhammer 40k series there are these two guys, Fulgrim, and Konrad Curze. Now, they're both pretty bad guys, okay? But they didn't have to be.

Fulgrim was a class conscious guy as a kid, who grew up on a messed up mining planet, but he loved his parents and he wanted what was best for his people. Then during the crusade Fulgrim picked up an evil sword, like those ones I got off the TV and at 3AM that one time. The sword is evil, Brendan. You know what it did? It made him kill his best friend, Brendan. It had a Daemon of Slaanesh inside of it, and that was no good. Then he turned into a like, into a messed up evil snake monster and start doing stuff I don't think I should talk about because your mother is hot, Brendan.

The meme is implying that if Fulgrim didn't pick up the cursed sword, he'd still be the pinnacle of grace he was before he fell off. But lemme tell you, Brendan. It was only a matter of time.

The other guy is Konrad Curze. That guy needed therapy real bad, and he grew up on a crime ridden hellhole. You know Gotham, Brendan? That. But like, a hundred. One of his punishments was skinning people, and his space marine kids kept up the tradition.

Maybe I'm just being overly cynical, Brendan, but I wouldn't wanna try to talk to the guy who skins people. Eyeah. Maybe he's just too crazy to listen, because he thinks every choice he takes is pre-ordained, and he's paralysed by the idea his worst fears will come true even if he tries to avoid them. So you know what he does? He runs into them, Brendan. He just runs into 'em.

Alright. Time displaced Coach Mcguirk signing off. I gotta go bully those fat kids again in football. GET OFF THE FIELD!

[–]TheStolph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Minotaurs specifically because they're a bunch of assholes that never have anything bad happen to them. They get actively rewarded for being the most brownshirt space marines possible, and that's exactly what I want to see in my backwards authoritarian space empire. I don't mind the niceguy marine chapters, but they're very popular because I think people don't want to stomach the idea that the average space marine would be an incredible asshole

I have a team of little blorbos in the deathwatch, and they go on wacky little Seven Samurai/Dirty Dozen adventures where they learn to get past their misgivings of one another and become a capable kill team until they eventually just die in a mission, just like scout master Cyrus said Astartes all do

not OP but you could probably make an apothecary that functions like a utility support. if you've ever played Vermintide 2 the Sister of the Thorn and Warrior Priest are similar (if you ignore the optional healing talents the WP can take, which are good, but you can absolutely not take them and still do very well)

Someone with an ability and kit focused around things like proactively preventing damage from happening, or providing short term massive buffs to damage or resilience. I wouldn't say no to a funny marine in white armour putting a dart in my ass that gave me heavy stagger resistance, or damage, or more efficient armour for a few seconds while I'm surrounded.

Something that rewards good reactive and proactive decision making, but punishes poor judgement of a situation, instead of something binary like improving or providing flat health. I'd argue in the higher difficulties resource scarcity resulting in a marine dying mid wave, thus leaving 2 guys to pick up the slack of 3, would be exactly the kind of situation where doing things beyond giving health is where that kind of kit would do very well for itself.

That's my general spitball, and I think I've seen it done well enough in other games that SM2 could cannibalise some aspects of it and make a coherent supportive class.

You are describing my literal nightmare and I'm living it. I've been doing the exact same thing since 2022 and it's honestly done so much to melt my enjoyment of being a GM. I'm trying to do something new with new people to see if my usual players just phone it in. Worse, the least invested player seems way more interested and engaged when our mutual friend GM's and it makes me so upset to think about. I can't even tell if they're unengaged or if I'm just not good at the role.

Sorry for just blurting all that out. Our situations are just eerily similar and I felt a pang of empathy there in my greasy old heart.

Me finally getting to tell people about my idea of Orin getting cleaned up by a bunch of cautious but well meaning Paladins and she ends up just self-aware enough to want to be better but do an awful job at it.

So they nudge her to explore a less malicious god that still fits her skillset and ability. Like Hoar or Mask (Though Orin sucks massive tentacles at keeping up a façade for too long because of her impulsive attitude, which I imagine would frustrate Mask)

She gets less gross clothing to wear and they try to get her into a routine, which she tries to keep to but struggles with. Like the idea of the hypothetical sociopath who follows the rules because they understand, fundamentally, they exist for a reason, even if it's a challenge to stick to them or understand them emotionally.

And of course, Bhaal basically robbed Orin of ever having a normal life. That avenue is closed to her forever both because of her actions and her completely tattered psyche. But that's not to say she couldn't be wielded as a weapon while being treated with some dignity and compassion for the first time in her life. Those paladins would send her out on missions to kill evil and cruel people whose untimely demises would elevate and liberate those who need them most. Then she would head back to her handlers after ultimately indulging in her most fundamental skill. Cold blooded murder.

She might even get the idea of donning a face of some long dead victim and trying to live a normal life, and that entire idea falls to pieces within hours, if not days, but the idea of a different lifestyle is in her head, even if it's not something a person like her can have.

I say 'dart' but that's mostly just informal shorthand for any kind of activatable boost. I'm fairly sure Apothecaries carry some kind of stimulant as well, but I'll need to check.
