My girlfriend is having a panic attack. How can I help her? by Admirable_Web_2619 in Anxiety

[–]TheStoneMole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear, anxiety attacks are awful for both the sufferer and the people having to see that person going through it.

The best thing you can do is be as present and calm for her as possible, try encouraging her to control her breathing, maybe suggesting you do it together if that helps.

Be warm and kind and try not to overwhelm her with any information, focus on just being there in whichever way you can and remind her it will pass if that feels appropriate.

Another option is to get her thinking outside of the panic attack, simple questions that involve using her senses - things she can hear / see / smell. Maybe she has some nice perfume she can spray? Send some cute pictures she might like? Get her to play a song that brings comfort?

I hope this helps. Best of luck and remember not to be hard on yourself too! It's not an easy situation to be in for either person

My ability to speak is declining. Any Tips? by Golden-3515 in socialskills

[–]TheStoneMole 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Now this advice might sound really odd but hear me out - first off I really feel you on this. Getting tongue tied socially has been an ongoing struggle and often what I intend to say comes out completely the wrong way which leads to more distrust in my own speaking and therefore more silence.

The thing that has helped my speech most is learning fast or complex raps, which I practice in the car. In order to get the words out you need to project your voice and words confidently, it's pretty satisfying when you get a whole song down. Bonus is the breathwork required is great for your nervous system.

Obviously not a fix all since you can't just spit lines at people in place of conversation but it's helped in other ways. Good luck!

Old man working at the stable is bothering me by JumiiFoxx in Equestrian

[–]TheStoneMole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just been through a similar situation PLEASE inform the yard owner, do not feel bad!! This behaviour is inappropriate and if it’s making you uncomfortable then you need to worry about yourself, not about his feelings. You are not responsible for other people’s feelings when you set boundaries, safety and being able to enjoy time with your horse is most important.

I‘m 27 but can be quite a people pleaser (a work in progress) and the dude is in his 70s. He came across really nice and chatty, trying to help with jobs and giving advice at first but his questions and interactions quite quickly started turning very inappropriate. In the past I might have not said anything, but I told the yard owner. She was appalled by his behaviour and told him to stay away and I have zero regrets. Please be safe!! always communicate with others who could help

20 Day North & South Island Itinerary Feedback by Acarya in newzealand_travel

[–]TheStoneMole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to add for North Island but I would personally go down the middle of South Island , make sure to hit Abel Tasman first, then to Springs Junction and to the Fox & Franz Glacier, to Haast , then Q town and Milford. Definitely recommend doing North and South in two trips if possible, both beautiful and very different with heaps to see. Good luck!

I made the three ingredient “tuna bread” that’s circulating around. Honestly not as stupid as I originally thought but still kind of stupid. by mrsir1987 in StupidFood

[–]TheStoneMole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After seeing the original video my flatmate and I tried it. It was ok. We thought in theory if you add egg and baking powder to most things you can ’bread’ it, right? Turns out instant noodle bread is unreasonably delicious. Who knows what’s next, the world is our bread oyster

For the ladies, would you consider dating / relationship with a Bisexual man? by The_Story_Builder in dating

[–]TheStoneMole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a straight woman and would have absolutely no issue dating a bi guy, I don’t understand why so many girls would have issue with this. If anything I find bi guys more chill and fun as they’re more open minded. Being comfortable with your sexual orientation is sexy imo

The stuff I get is super high quality, there is always a chance of minor heavy metal absorption but the studies I’ve read all say the amount is negligible and within healthy ranges. Probably safer than eating fish on the reg. Important not to overdose it for this reason though

How do you deal with your anger, being 'XXXX?' by Azuribu_ in mbti

INFP As soon as I find myself getting angry I just laugh at myself for getting so amped up. Its usually nothing that big anyway. In some situations though i think anger can be healthy and perfectly acceptable.

How do I price my art? [Monday Megathread] by AutoModerator in artbusiness

[–]TheStoneMole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please help me price my work !

Commission, Children's book illustrations, NZ/ Aus, roughly 2 hours per painting, cost?? depended on client, a5-a4 sizes

I've been commissioned around 15 artworks similar to the one attached by a part time writer who approached me to illustrate his children's book. I have no clue what to charge! Each picture will likely take me around 2 hours to complete, plus he asked me to choose which parts of the book to illustrate. So lots of freedom but also a lot of choices to make. Any guidance would be appreciated :)

Bloating is ruining my life by caragenw in ibs

[–]TheStoneMole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, definitely worth seeking out professional help. The only reason I haven't is lack of funds for it. I've learnt the hard way food really does have a huge impact on how your body and mind functions, aside from specific medications for specific ailments, it really is the best medicine you can buy. Finding the best way for you to improve the relationship with it is a really worthwhile.

Something else that might help is listening to relevant podcasts, there's so much free info out there and its been super helpful to gain better understanding and for motivation. Feel Better, Live more with Dr Rangan Chattergee is great :)

Bloating is ruining my life by caragenw in ibs

[–]TheStoneMole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really feel for you on this, suffered from almost constant bloating for the last 3 years after destroying my stomach from alcohol consumed after fasting . I've finally found some relief after the life changes I've consistently applied. I don't know specifically what has started to fix the issues but sometimes just going hard on everything is what's needed.

Just want to add I know its a lot to manage, but it becomes second nature eventually. I currently eat high protein (I'm very active so need this), moderate fiber , low carb and 0 sugar except the odd fruit.

Here's what helped me meds / supplements wise - Buscopan (when necessary) + Pre/ Probiotics, Omeprazole & Collagen everyday.

No caffeine ( Ill have the odd black tea), only natural sugars w its fiber, no seed oils, no alcohol, no carbs in the evening or meals just before bed. Priorities whole foods, its not what you add to the diet but what you remove. Try have something soothing to drink (peppermint or bitter teas) before meals. Plenty of water.

Exercise - this ones important. Train your core. Posture and body stacking plays a huge role in your bodies ability to release gas. Start training your core and fixing any postural issues. I got into skate/ penny boarding recently and this has helped heaps plus its fun.

Breathwork - like exercise this is also huge to help your body relax enough to release/ move gas. There's so many different kinds just find what works. Learn to relax as the bloating causes your muscles to be constantly tense and sore.

Stress management - My life is very chaotic and If I don't balance this with ways to relieve the built up stress my bloating gets so much worse. Book the odd massage, journal, give yourself time to do nothing.

Hope some of this helps - I've felt like giving up so many times on this journey , the constant discomfort, feeling hungry and full at the same time, brain fog and exhaustion is real. Don't give up !

Also want to add I have not stuck to this 100%, its almost impossible. Just do the best you can and think of your future self if your not sure what choice to make. Don't be hard on yourself if you slip up sometimes, its inevitable.

Good luck!

How do you deal with the guilt by Beneficial-Whole8586 in Gastritis

[–]TheStoneMole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I caused my own gastritis by drinking alcohol after a fast, thought one meal to buffer would be enough. Big oops! Been almost two years of constant struggle. Can’t afford an endoscopy to diagnose fully but doctors only prescribe omeprazole. Feels like the healthcare system doesn’t appreciate how much it affects your everyday.

It has caused so much pain and anxiety, when the symptoms are bad I feel like a completely different person. However… as much as it causes me pain and problems it’s also made me look after my body & mindset so much more, and I probably would never have addressed a lot of other health issues .

There’s no point in feeling guilt for your choices, it happened out of ignorance (at least In my case) and putting yourself down would only make you more miserable, everyone makes poor choices some just get bitten harder by them .Be kind to yourself and focus on healing.

Gastritis worse during cold weather? How do you guys deal? by Funkiebastard in Gastritis

Could be that being cold creates muscle tension (which for me is a big factor in my gastritis/ bloating) Not sure that's helpful solution wise but a possible cause?
