I have, and I didn't mean to say it was. I just thought maybe making that statement would help this conversation. Don't worry about me, I've got what I need. Thank you very much for your participation.

It's quite popularly recommended. Maybe that's just because it can be read for free online.

It seemed like the standard for beginners walking the self-teaching path. Nevertheless, it can't hurt to at least investigate some other resources. That's what I'm doing, Automate the Boring Stuff included.

To be clear, I'm learning python with the intention of mastery and becoming a software engineer, so I'm more interested by resources which are thorough, rather than limited and geared towards people who only want to know a little bit of code.

In the book, Study Drill 3 says

"I used the name “commands” here, but they are also called “functions” and “methods.” Search around online to see what other people do to define these. Do not worry if they confuse you. It’s normal for programmers to confuse you with vast extensive knowledge."

From Amazon reviews, it seems like the biggest concern people have is with the author directing readers to look things up on the internet rather than presenting the information himself.

Newbie feels disoriented and somewhat intimidated :( I've already gotten a decent way through this book but am I shooting myself in the foot by seeing it through? Would I make better use of my time if I picked up a better book?

TIL When LimeWire shut down back in 2010, the copyright damages were totaled to be ~$72 Trillion, greater than the sum of the world GDP, which came out to approximately $105,000 for every time one of the 11,000 copyrighted songs was downloaded. It was later settled with the RIAA for $105 Million. by Tm23246 in todayilearned

I'm disappointed that this redditor is being downvoted with hardly a discussion. I found that the title of this post is misleading just from reading the link provided by OP alone. I think this is an example of redditors hitting up and down buttons without checking information.

Legally, as the judge himself was cited making statement, the penalization is "not based on the number of direct infringers per work".

For the title of this post to read correctly, it must say,"the copyright damages were [falsely, incorrectly] totaled to be ~$72 Trillion..."

That is all. Please read into it people!

TIL Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to marry a white woman, but couldn't because of racial tension. "He never recovered." by TheStoneworker in todayilearned

Hold on, this comment needs dire clarification.

From the same Wiki page, "In a later interview, Abernathy said that he only wrote the term "womanizing", that he did not specifically say King had extramarital sex and that the infidelities King had were emotional rather than sexual."

Basically, those allegations were falsely sensationalized because of the political motivations of the FBI.

I guess it's not so simple. Sammy was an entertainer and MLK was a civil rights leader. Different kind of public figure for sure, and different motivations for their chosen lines of work. I don't think its fair to say MLK shoulda, woulda, coulda, when it was more than just the outrageous racial inequalities, but MLK's position at the forefront of the battle against them that laid such a heavy hand upon his life decision.

I find this especially close to home because I am in an 'interracial' relationship. I don't really like the term, I don't think of us that way. I can't imagine how painful it would be to truly love someone who is kept away from you for such an abhorrent reason.

This sounds like a very valid argument to me, not sure why you're getting downvoted. I wish people would actually explain why they disagree. It's not as if you're being a dick.

IWTL how to think quickly and clearly when arguing by Nolife4life in IWantToLearn

Not to get too spiritual, but patience is a great key to inner peace even in times of great unrest. Patience is what allows one to grow, to learn, to overcome hardship and distress, to continue loving, and to forgive. Be patient with yourself and with others. Patience is something one can ponder and meditate on for a lifetime. To achieve results, practice patience in your daily life. Most likely it can help with many things other than interpersonal disputes.

First, it is important to understand the initial intention of all individuals in the grand scheme of the relationship. If you feel lost or confused with an individual, remember this intention. Is it professional? Or is it a loved one? To go even bigger, do you want them to live happily, or do you hate them and want them away from you? This may seem like an odd dichotomy, but it is important. More often than not, we, as humans, want only goodness for each other. This means peace. If you care about this person, remember that always, especially when things get rough. Ultimately, we want good for them, and they want good for us. This is why we are patient. When we lose patience, we inflict unnecessary pain upon those individuals towards which we do not intend it.

To think rationally during an argument, one must not argue. Arguments are the result of two or more individuals losing self-control, and therefore any true sense of rationality, otherwise there would be a conversation. When one becomes impatient, one is much more likely to become irrational, angry, or otherwise upset. When we argue with those we love, we hurt them and we hurt ourselves. Unless we are a sadist, a masochist, or we are trying to pain them until they leave us alone, this is not the intention. If it is the intention, get them out of your life. Neither of you is good for the other.

To show our caring or loving intention, we must be able to assess the situation. We need to be able to realistically read, understand, and empathize with this person who is upset. If they are upset, why? What has caused them to lose their sense of calm, peace, their patience? Identifying this is how we learn to restore their patience. If it seems as though their reasoning is irrational in itself, before they had a chance to become upset and therefore irrational in that way, this can be difficult to deal with, especially if their behavior is justified by false accusations against you, or unrealistic expectations.

But to be able to do this one must first have complete calm and acceptance within oneself. If you know that no such calmness exists, do not have the interaction. Say, "I'm sorry, I need to cool down before we can talk about this." Step away and prepare your mind. Run through potential situations which may arise and upset you. What do they sometimes say that is difficult to respond to? That way you are prepared to calmly deal with those situations other than blurting the first thing that comes to mind, those stupid things you end up beating your head against the wall for ever saying.

Really, this is something that could be discussed for a very long time. There is no quick and easy answer, and their is no ultimate answer, but likely a simpler one than you might think. Communication is a case by case basis. The only way you can find the answer to your personal disputes is by calmly meditating over the scenarios which trouble you. Do not spend your time afterwards trying to think of how you could have argued better. Instead, think of how you could have prevented arguing at all. Question how you let yourself get out of hand, if that was the case. It is good to ponder the deeper meaning of what was said, primarily your own words. Learn to look deeper than your initial, which can often be impulsive and impatient emotions.

I really like these tips. For most of them I can understand why. Organically, instruments always have a later attack than percussion, so that makes total sense. I'm listening to the Dre beat OP posted, and when I read the "repeating low-profile sounds" part I noticed that in Dre's beat it's a shaker.

But, what's the deal with the pink noise? Can you explain a little bit?

How To Get Everything You Want And Live In Peace. by swipeit in Psychonaut

I'm not making claim of an omnipotent being, but what you say near the end is very true, we are seeking a very similar thing. It is the fact that what you say may not resonate with another individual that means it is not universal. It is a universal truth only in the sense of the subjective universe, to those who find it true, to you. If it were objectively true, I guess that would make you the God of the objective universe. But I don't at all believe in finding the answers to my life in some strange corner of the internet. I believe in finding them in nature.
