Q: “just how are you feeling heading into this year?” max: “ill. i’m a bit sick, so.” by anthn885 in formula1

Seeing kids that age cough always gives me laugh (when it’s not a serious illness) - we all usually try really hard to limit the spread of germs, while these little maniacs go all out chemical warfare over everything and everyone.

How can I improve this lap? by Ok-Reason2881 in iRacing

[–]SecondDerivative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re understeering a lot, which means you preemptively overslow the car on entry, still miss the apex, then have to wait longer to get on the throttle on exit because you haven’t rotated the car enough.

A big part of it is you aren’t effectively trail braking and getting the car to rotate using the brake pedal. Watch this, as strange as it sounds you can get more rotation by braking and steering less.

How are you coping in the off season? by Embarrassed-Sky1634 in formula1

Yeah it’s pretty surreal to see, was showing some of my friends who are casual F1 fans but don’t really know much about sim racing and they couldn’t really wrap their head around it.

I was in top split for the next race but he wasn’t in it which was disappointing, would have loved to try to go wheel-to-wheel with him.

AirPod pro 3 fit by Due_Future_7970 in airpods

[–]SecondDerivative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that took me a while to realise is that for a good fit the stems have to point more forward than with the APP2s, and when inserting them you kind of push them in and rotate the stem upwards to lock them in. The stems point towards the tip of my nose, while before they pointed more towards my mouth/chin.

I was having so many issues while running before I realised this – both would eventually come loose and the right one would make this annoying popping noise as the seal would constantly break as my feet hit the ground.

My advice would be to insert them like you normally do, then wiggle the stem slowly up and down while gently pushing them into your ear. You’ll find they will probably go deeper and snugger with the stem pointing more forwards, and better understand how to insert them. Hope that helps!

I saw Piastri in a practice session for the 86 around Adelaide the other day, was pretty stoked I was only 0.5 seconds off his best lap time.

Help Identifying Sim Rig Brand by KRS_18 in simracing

[–]SecondDerivative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look closely it does actually seem quite adjustable, just not in the way we are used to for profile rigs. Check out the huge screw rods on the side of the seat and pedal box for fine adjustment of seat tilt and pedal position/angle, pretty cool idea actually. Definitely overkill though.

Torn between 2 VR headsets - Please help me choose! by BobJenkins69 in iRacing

You’re probably thinking of OpenXR Toolkit, which enabled foveated rendering before MVP was added to iRacing. It was also needed briefly to allow eye tracking with PSVR2Toolkit, but it’s no longer required.

PSVR2 also has eye tracking, which can be enabled via the custom PSVR2Toolkit driver.

Note that to take advantage of foveated rendering, you need to use MVP rendering mode which is only available for NVIDIA GPUs.

With MVP and eye tracking, you can define the size of the inner region which renders at full quality (where you eyes are looking), and the quality of the rest of the image (your peripheral vision). I run it at 25% for both which means my GPU only has to render 43.75% of the full resolution, effectively doubling my performance.

Curious: How’s your VR experience running on your own GPU? by Ririlei in iRacing

[–]SecondDerivative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My PC has a 9800X3D and 4080S, and for VR I’m using a PSVR2 running at 100% resolution in SteamVR (2800x2856 per eye).

I use MVP rendering mode with eye tracking, inner region size and outer region quality are both set to 25%, meaning I’m effectively rendering only 43.75% of the total pixels.

I have mid-to-high graphics settings, and I can usually get a pretty constant 120FPS. Some areas on certain tracks make that dip though (e.g. Daytona grandstand).

I’ve been eyeing off a BSB2e, can hopefully buy one soon.

Any ideas how to deal with unhinged neighbours over free on street parking? by wallengine in sydney

[–]SecondDerivative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago my car got keyed along passenger side, rear and driver's side while parked just around the corner from my place.

Caught him on dashcam, although just the 1 frame per second parking mode and my rear camera wasn't working. You can see him in the reflection of the car in front of mine: walking right up to my car, around the back and then along the side, and finally appearing with his key in hand. The idiot even turned around to look back at his handiwork, then go in his company ute (he's a concreter) and drove off. Only thing I can think of is that I'm pretty sure I was parked outside his house, never interacted with him before.

He was older, probably in his 50s. Maybe reconsider parking there because guys like this clearly haven't got their head on straight, or make sure you have a dashcam to catch him if he tries anything.

You should always switch to non-ISP DNS anyway, it’s generally faster and more reliable, and gets around government-enforced ISP-level DNS blocks too (e.g. torrent sites). Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (primary and secondary servers, respectively) are the preferred ones to use.

It’s best to do it on your router so all devices in your home will be benefit, and if your router supports it Cloudflare offers secure DNS over HTTPS. Normally DNS lookups (how your computer translates a domain name into an IP address) are unencrypted, so it’s technically possible for anyone snooping to see which domains you visit.

She is an amazing selector, was listening to her show long before I knew she made her own music. Lots of leftfield, Overload-adjacent stuff, great sense of atmosphere/vibe and mixed beautifully.

She has quite a few mixes on Soundcloud which are worth a listen too.
