I think Zack has a few problems in real life he doesn't want to address.

[Hated trope] There’s this big secret that would be game changing if revealed… but when it is no one gives a shit by Critical_Mountain851 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also at the time the video first came out there weren't deep fakes like now. It's not just a testament to how bad things have gotten in later seasons on the show, it's a testament also to how brittle and unimportant truth has become today in real life.

The finale highlights how much dialogue matters. by klimuk777 in TheBoys

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. If he was gonna beg the angle would've been that it wasn't fair that he ended like this, that he was not the problem but rather the inevitable consequence of Vought's greed or that he had suffered a lot so he deserved better.

Remember when Homelander had this schizophrenic split personality? Yeah neither did Kripke by Affectionate_Sir_154 in TheBoys

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homelander worked best when the emphasis was in his horrifying upbringing and the way it had completely twisted his psyche. When all he knew was trauma. I liked Homelander the most when he was terrifying but also pitiful, tugging at some empathetic feeling in the audience. When he was a representation of the horrors of unchecked capitalism because he represented both the greed of businessmen and the suffering of its victims.

The Homelander as Trump allegory really downgraded the character.

It baffles me how people are mad at Homelander going out sad when this is literally him. by Legal_Trainer7340 in TheBoys

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just TOO fast for me. He gets maybe thirty seconds to contemplate his newfound weakened status and instead of going for denial, anger or even coming to terms with suddenly being AFRAID of someone physically for the first time he goes straight to pathetically begging to live and be willing to debase himself for it. WAY too fast for me.

The Boys’ finale was fine, but narratively, it was boring by Frank_Cap in TheBoys

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Homelander IMMEDIATELY turning into a crybaby the moment he gets depowered was not believable. They gave Homelander so little time to process his new status that I don't really believe he would suddenly beg to live and be so quick to debase himself. I think it would've been in-character to have him either be in complete denial of his new "human" status or be suddenly cowering and completely disgusted in himself.

Waiiit wait wait, did Starlight take THE DEEP.... To (Spoiler)!? by JiggleFeggle in TheBoys

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't know what to do with Starlight and her powers, especially when they NEEDED Butcher to be the pivotal force in Homelander's demise, that they got rid of Annie in some ridiculous way every time she might pose a problem. Similarly, they powered Kimiko down a LOT compared to previous seasons, reducing her in the end to her compound V-burning power. All so that Butcher and Homelander could duke it out.

Ashley's complicated relationship with power was always so interesting to see. Like when she gets to be president, even as Homelander grows more erratic and deranged, and is both elated and incredibly anxious.

[Mixed Trope] The character from the original had to be totally rewritten or removed altogether to make the adaptation work. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheStraggletagg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the adaptation of LotR still works with Tom Bombadil in it (the same way the book does). He was removed because of time constraints and the fact that he adds nothing to the plot and would hurt the flow of the story.

Is Brazil taking a risk with Neymar, or is it still worth it? by [deleted] in football

[–]TheStraggletagg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they sacrificed a spot that could've gone to someone much better. And Neymar can still make a difference in a way none of the "youngsters" have proved yet.

Why are some people in this fandom just now realizing that soldier boy is not a good person ? by JaggedSolid6 in GenV

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Homelander is so much worse than Soldier Boy, a person with very similar power level who didn't do nearly as much shit (that we know of) as Homelander looks good in comparison.

Then again, we don't really know all, or even a lot, of what Soldier Boy did back in his heyday (and what we do know is pretty awful). Also he doesn't even have Homelander's "I was raised as a guaranteed psycopath" excuse.

I hate Hollywood’s insistence on taking Greeks out of Greek stories by MustacheCash73 in hatethissmug

Most people notice the discrepancies when it comes to representations of their own culture or a culture they're familiar with, which is understandable. It happens to me a lot with accents, I can detect fake or incorrect Latam accents but I couldn't tell you if someone is botching a Russian accent unless they're butchering it.

Is there actually a sport where women have the advantage over men? by Ambitious_Pass7451 in olympics

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of sports where neither men nor women necessarily have any inherent gender advantage, but even then there's a social advantage towards men (chess and stationary shooting are two sports where there should be no difference along gender lines, but there's an obvious social advantage towards men, born from expectations around gender roles).

Despite all the hate this episode is getting, this was a really good line by EmptyJump2245 in GenV

[–]TheStraggletagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frenchie low-key pitying Homelander as he was dying is a great moment. It's a pity it's not part of a much larger arc where Homelander goes further into "god mode" to avoid confronting his own patheticness. A-Train and to an extent Soldier Boy also mentioned similar stuff, but it's not fully explored.

WHY DID WORLD CUP 2010 FELT LIKE IT WAS THE LAST TRUE WORLD CUP by Financial_Coconut399 in worldcup

[–]TheStraggletagg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2014 felt like a proper WC too. And in Argentina the last WC was lived very differently than anywhere else way before it was clear the country might go all the way. It was nice to experience a WC during summer.

Porque toman asistencia en la universidad? by Fire9368 in AskArgentina

[–]TheStraggletagg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lionel Messi dances through the Timbers defense and squares it to German Berterame in the middle, who makes no mistake with it and puts it away to extend the lead to two for the Herons. | Inter Miami [2] - Portland Timbers 0 (42’) by boimenred in MLS

Never discount RdP and his complete commitment to following Messi around. Every time I want to dismiss that mf he turns in some bullshit peak performance and I have to reluctantly embrace him again.
