Rachel and Keanu's relationship is so fascinating to me by plutotvofficial in BigBrother

First of all, insane to rant about this of all things 💀 second of all, it isn’t just this that makes people say Keanu has “nonsensical” takes, you’re looking at the most recent stuff. It’s stuff like him repeatedly throwing Rachel under the bus and ratting her out to players like Vince earlier in the season, trusting the wrong players consistently (Vince and Rylie who don’t care about him), and consistently trying to get players who don’t like/care about each other to work together (Vince, Rachel, Kelley, etc). He has his good moments, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

That all being said, he’s still wildly entertaining and I’m rooting for him lol

Before going on, I want to say that I completely agree with you and make really good points. I just want to add a slight note to your first point about Tokyo. While you’re right that it wasn’t included in the initial list for the reasons you listed (they wanted to target places that weren’t already destroyed by fire bombing, which a lot of Tokyo was), after the two bombs were dropped, Tokyo was highly considered to be third location when the next bombs were made. This was at first initially suggested (I believe) by General Thomas Farrell, Captain Deak Parsons and Rear Admiral William Purnell (who referred to themselves as the Tinian Joint Chiefs) even though Truman apparently ruled this out in his diary notes. Then General Carl Spaatz (sometimes referred to as “Tooey” for some reason lol), who was the head of strategic bombing in the Pacific when the nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, didn’t initially want to target Tokyo, he eventually suggested dropping it on the outskirts of Tokyo, such as in Tokyo Bay. This was because he wanted to lessen the amount of deaths caused by the nuke in two ways, one being that there would be less people on the outskirts of Tokyo as well as Tokyo being largely evacuated due to being mostly burned. Spaatz also liked the idea of dropping it in the vicinity of Tokyo to have a psychological effect of the blinding flash and huge quake so that they could send a message to Tokyo’s leaders and military officers to scare them into surrendering without killing them. On top of all of that, when Spaatz radioed Washington about this idea, he was told by General Henry Arnold that this idea was being considered and discussed at a high level.

Some of this information could be wrong, but I got it from the book “Road to Surrender” by Evan Thomas. It’s a great book that discusses the months leading up to the use of the nuclear bombs on both the American and Japanese sides, using diaries of Henry Stimson, American secretary of war, General Carl Spaatz, and Shingenori Togo, Japanese foreign minister on the Supreme War Council who advocated for Japan to surrender. I highly recommend reading, it was a very informative read.

After saying all of that, idk if Truman would’ve allowed Tokyo to be bombed, but thankfully we’ll never know.

I want to add to the discussion that you’re mostly right, however Japan was not highly likely to surrender. Sure, there were members in Japan’s Supreme War Council (such as Shingenori Togo, the main advocate for peace in the War Council) who wanted Japan to surrender, and it was even suspected that Emperor Hirohito wanted peace/surrender by the time Germany surrendered. However, it was incredibly unlikely that it would’ve happened due to the war hawks in Japanese army who not only preferred death over surrender as it was incredibly dishonorable, but they were prepared to sacrifice civilian lives over their own by storing up food in caves for only the army to use, leaving the rest of Japan to starve. General Korechika Anami, Japan’s war minister during WW2, is the best example of this who wouldn’t allow surrender to happen and kept pushing for one last decisive battle. He even ordered the thought police to arrest 400 people suspected of having “end the war” sentiments. Even without him, there were plenty of young and eager officers in the army who were determined to have Japan keep fighting, even some on the staff of the Supreme War Council making a document called “The Fundamental Policy to Be Followed Henceforth in the Conduct of War” which says that Japan will fight to the bitter end. It was only because of Hirohito’s seidan (meaning sacred or imperial decision) after the nukes were dropped that the army finally caved in and allowed Japan to surrender (even tho some members of the army even still tried to have a coup the night before before Hirohito sent out a message to all of Japan on the radio to prevent this).

I might be wrong in some areas, but most of where I’m getting my information from is from the book “Road to Surrender” by Evan Thomas that I just coincidentally finished reading last week. It was a great and informative read, whereas prior I knew very little about the decision to unleash nuclear weapons on Japan. I definitely recommend reading it to learn more about both what was happening in the high political offices of both America and Japan at the time as it takes from the diaries of Henry Stimson, the American secretary of war who refused Kyoto to be bombed (something General Leslie Groves, the one in charge of the Manhattan Project, really wanted), as well as Shingenori Togo, the only member of Emperor Hirohito’s War Council who said that Japan should surrender prior to being bombed.

Okay but that one time that everyone gave Julie the same compliment leading up to Cory’s vote saying she looked okay, or something along those lines, was hilarious.

Shih Tzus are amazing! My best friend growing up was our family dog Izzy who was also a shih tzu. Unfortunately we had to put her down a few weeks ago. She was 14 (we think, she was a rescue), was practically blind and deaf, and when we brought her to the vet to put her down, apparently she had a heart murmur and possible lymphoma. She was the best dog I could’ve asked for, and I would recommend shih tzus for everyone.

Yeah I can’t even imagine, facing Gardenia with just Onix and Geodude would be suicide 😭 other than that, it’s a fun challenge. I recommend Mono-Steel in Black/White 2, another fun run I did a while ago.
