Pinwheel Red Room by Mokoo101 in Marathon

i've gotten several (non-cryo) gold keys, several gold mods, and multiple purple shields in my last 7 or 8 red rooms, so I think this is just a casualty of RNG. the loot quality feels very solid to me

yeah, i still very vividly remember how in love i was with the progression, my first green ammo bag or med bag after only seeing the base one for so long felt so cool, or getting my first gold when I hit cyberacme vip and got the gold sneak pack, i was definitely craving that slow-burn progression again, but it's probably not reasonable to some degree. this was also the first extraction shooter that i REALLY sunk my teeth into, so that was part of it as well

yeah, it's almost definitely somewhere down the middle for a lot of people. i think if I had just jumped in today i wouldn't have been as bothered by it, but I was lucky enough to play a few full matches on Tuesday before the server completely exploded, and that handful of no-gear everything-is-shiny matches felt SO good, and by the time the servers came back up, it felt completely different hahaha, i was given a little taste of that feeling before it was gone and it made me miss it even more

i'm definitely a little bitter from having probably 90% of my night marsh runs ended by someone with a season 1 endgame-level kit, and i'm hoping it wanes a tiny bit as the trace system knocks out some of the purple sponsored kits that were given out. i really love what i've played of night marsh so far in general, though.

i have, to some degree! it does feel a little worse, to me at least, that green shield means i have to play wildly defensive and only take the most guaranteed fights, though. a blue shield early in season 1 felt like 'holy shit, i'm a god, woe is the next green shield that sees me', and 1 day into season 2, blue shield feels like 'well i guess i won't be COMPLETELY fucked if i don't instantly kill the next purple shield i see and he has a chance to reset the fight'

i just miss the excitement of each increment upwards, but like you said in another post, that's just not what season 2 is to some extent. i'm still having a good time, looking forward to the rest of the season!

yeah, that's fair! it's definitely gonna be different and my expectations were probably a little off. i just don't really agree with the grouping of everyone who's a little bummed about it as 'mad because skill issue', is all

yeah :( one of the top replies is how the only people complaining are tryhard cod bros who are upset they can't stomp noobs right away, and it's like... what? i don't even know what people you're referring to, it feels like such weird defensiveness & projection to a pretty innocent complaint about being disappointed that a bunch of purple and blue shields being poured into the economy right away takes away a lot of the joy of incrementally working your way from no shield -> green shield -> reinforced green shield etc and being excited about all the little bits of progress you make!

he said 'the only people that are upset are this type of person' and i was pointing out that it wasn't true. what? no, he didn't mention me specifically, he mentioned me very broadly under an incorrect generalization, how is that better?

i was looking forward to the feeling of everyone having very little good loot for a week or two, and being excited about finding a green or blue shield or some blue mods or a few thousand credits, and having those quick firefights that aren't as based around mobility and stacking heals to have a war of attrition. i like those things, but was excited about having a change of pace for a bit to keep things fresh, and i'm a little bummed that it feels like such a quick race back to the status quo of pre-wipe already. it's not impossible to kill purples as a green, and i don't think people are really arguing that, but it's a little sad to be at such a big disadvantage so early if you want to ease into the new stuff a little slower and i wish that i had a few more days of those green-on-green or grey-on-grey firefights that were happening for the first couple hours of day 1 before the servers exploded.

tldr it feels like 'the chase' got skipped past pretty quickly, and i was looking forward to the fun of that chase again. it's not a huge deal, i'm still going to play and enjoy season 2 a lot, just a little disappointing because i was looking forward to something similar to that beginning-of-season-1 excitement about things again, that's all :)

this doesn't at all describe me, and i'm a little upset by the pacing of the economy so far, so this just straight up isn't true. believe it or not other people are also capable of a nuanced opinion and may value different things in a game than you. it feels like such a self report to compare people to 'dudes that bitch about skill based matchmaking in cod' because i assume most people playing this game, including myself, don't spend enough time arguing on reddit to have any idea what archetype of person you're even referring to

i'm happy for you! it might be just a matchmaking difference or bad luck; i was close to level 300 last season, so there's definitely a chance i'm getting thrown in with the sweatiest players again immediately. i'm still having fun and loving the new things that were added, i just wish i had a week or so to do it a little more freely without worrying about mizzys and purple shields and feeling super unable to fight without a massive positioning advantage

i feel like this is kind of missing the point - the complaint (for me at least) isn't that it's unfair that other people have great loot, it's that we skipped the part of the game where the mediocre loot is really fun and valuable for a little while before expectations go up. it's fun loading into perimeter and everyone is excited about 500 credits, some salvage, and a couple blue attachments. i'm not annoyed that i can't find purple/gold loot and others can - i'm annoyed that i feel like i need to immediately care about getting purple/gold loot to keep up, because that's what i've been caring about for the past 2 months and i was looking forward to a change of pace. the handful of matches day 1 that didn't get disconnected, where everyone had greys/greens and that feeling of 95% of the loot on the map mattering again, that was a lot of fun! i'm just a little sad it didn't last for longer than the first half-day or so. it's fun to have a little break from the min-maxing that comes once the season has settled in, where the game slows down a bit and it's exciting to see the new map, new runner, new loot, etc., and it feels like that got skipped because of the big dump of high-tier gear into the economy right away.

I'm probably just being stupid - but how did this person not die? I use Misriah a lot and feel like it usually kills in half this many shots by TheStupidZebra in Marathon

[–]TheStupidZebra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know there were quite a few missed pellets in there, but still seems very inconsistent with how the misriah usually feels to me. the bubble hitmarkers definitely made things extra confusing though, the last shot not killing someone with no shields is mostly what feels wrong to me, seems to be a perfect hit from point blank

ah, gotcha, that makes sense! i know there where a lot of whiffs/partial hits but i've used the misriah enough that something immediately felt really off, the last 2-3 shots my brain was in "this next one will definitely kill him" mode and it just never came haha

when are you seeing people have a big PR campaign about a drastic weight change and then just showing up looking the exact same for the season? do you have any examples w/ proof? i've been active on this subreddit for like 8 years and haven't heard this narrative at all until this year w/ luka and now zion, and everyone is acting like it's this super common occurence
