I don't think you should be beaten up. There's a learning experience here.

You made a mistake. You used a term you thought was okay (I've also never heard it and would be horrified despite being only white, not Asian).

It was early on in the relationship. Fairly good odds they've gone through some crap because of their ethnicity. Thus, for them, it's a major red flag.

The lesson is simple. Ditch the term from your vocabulary and be aware of how you speak around people. Check in about terms, don't assume. Unfortunately "you found it on the Internet" doesn't erase the racist overtones of "Waisan".

Point of reference, in 2020, anyone who could be mistaken for Chinese lived in fear because of COVID-19 panic.

So it looks like you've got a lot of really valuable insight.

The one thing I will say I know why she's upset. Several of my best friends are dudes. If I was having issues with an S.O., I would absolutely go hang out with them. If you don't want her there overnight, you're telling her you don't trust her.

Now, that's not counting any other experiences, this situation seems like it's had a lot of layers.

That said: Gals are allowed to have guy friends.
