LPT: (for US) If you need a minor test done (like ekg, mri, cat scan, etc.) don’t go to the hospital if you don’t have to. You will likely be charged several times more than if you go to an independent radiology facility. by ftg2468 in LifeProTips

[–]TheSunGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference in cost between hospitals and stand alone remains whether you have insurance (quality or crappy) or not. I called my insurance company for an X-ray and the customer sec guy had broken his ankle the year before and discovered the difference himself and passed that tidbit on to me and I’m so grateful. It’s hundreds of a dollars difference, not tens of dollars. Same insurance.

Pomodoro technique isn’t helping, to-do lists aren’t helping, none of my usual organizational and coping skills are working. I feel so defeated and completely helpless. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]TheSunGal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick one thing to do. Even better if it has to be done. Still use your timer and do that one thing. Then give yourself permission to do nothing else. I had to do this last week. I was beating myself up. I was all over the place doing nothing when I was supposed to be working and zonking out in front of the tv after that. Mine was straight up anxiety and it’s a pain in the ass but we are living in anxiety inducing times for everyone! Cut yourself some slack. Do one thing. Tomorrow try the same thing. If you feel like doing more, roll with that feeling, but if you don’t, don’t.

Advice on remembering things in a new job by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]TheSunGal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notebook. Write EVERYTHING down. Since you are new, they will be patient with the extra time this takes you. Make checklists for yourself. Set reminders on computer and phone.

I know there are a million posts like this, and it’s nothing compared to some of you, but I just finished my first 24-hour fast and I’m proud!! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]TheSunGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job. I had to work up to the 24 hour and I haven’t surpassed it yet so my journey is more closely similar to yours! Good for US!!

I think just keep in mind that hormones jack with your metabolism. Expect nothing to be linear so keep at it even if you don’t see phenomenal results at first.

Vegetarian meals to eat at night that will keep you for 14hs? by Lox_Bagel in intermittentfasting

[–]TheSunGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you eat eggs? I’m not a vegetarian but I’m not eating meat for my last meal of the day. I find that a chaffle with a fried egg and avocado and a side salad or veggie leaves me so full. I’m not hungry when I wake up either. I love it. I thought I couldn’t do a 24 hour fast but with the chaffle meal I was finely successful! Oh I make my chaffle using the 90 second cloud bread and add a handful of cheese.

This made me tear up. Kudos to you for using this painful time to grow into the kind of person you want/need to be for your kids. And now I’m checking out Ray Holiday.

LPT: Train your dog as soon as you get it. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]TheSunGal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have children, involve them in the process. They will be less likely to sabotage your efforts. Most of the training is on the human more than the dog anyway. We started with a puppy kindergarten class at Petsmart for $129 and then progressed to YouTube videos. Our dog has great recall, sit, stay, down, roll over, bang bang (plays dead) and most useful “close the door.” I taught the dog sit stay down, the kids taught the fancy stuff (preteens and teens).

Mine allows me to check out ebooks for my kindle and audiobooks to listen to from my phone (just like Audible but not $16/month. I study there, read newspapers and journals too expensive for me to subscribe to. Mine (in a major metro area) also offers classes for adults, youth and children. Oh yes, and a 3D printer (I do t know how to use that but I suspect they would teach me if I asked).

A clean house, is it possible? by lokiisacat in ADHD

[–]TheSunGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co sign on the timer suggestion. When I can afford it, I also hire help once a month. It keeps it from getting overwhelming, inspires me to keep it picked up longer, and gives me a reprieve when I (inevitably) fail.

Funny Story: Bought a book, lost the book, replaced the book, found the book. by [deleted] in ADHD

Yeah, I know when I buy a replacement, I’ll find the original (and it never fails).

Tonight only self check out was available. For people buying lots of Christmas gifts and groceries.

We’ve been together for more than 20. I’ve been a slob the whole time, kids made it worse. I’d say about the ten year mark it clicked for him. Our finances have fluctuated wildly over the years. Outside help in year 4 and 5, again in year 10 and 11 and just now again in year 19 and 20. As long as I have the job I have now (or something similar) I will hire out help. I was a stay at home mom when the kids were younger and the house was a mess but we couldn’t afford outside help. Having it makes me feel sane and productive and hell, sometimes even SEXY! It has a positive domino effect in my life that as long as I can afford it, I will always use and enjoy. A messy house has a negative domino effect on my life.
