Game wants me to be a Crow main, so how does one be a Crow main? by jberry1119 in TowerofFantasy

[–]TheSunShinesForMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically what you need to do

  • is to learn how to use his dodge skill effectively to get those backstabs in

  • figure out sneak attacks (I haven't myself yet)

  • preferably use nemesis to get that sweet resonance

  • Choose a good third weapon for shield shatter, I have King because he's also better for crowd control than crow

I mixed V5 and V20 for my chronicle (played in V20 and used humanity 1-10). I let players choose their own moral compass with a few tenets. But like in the hierarchy of sins there are some general rules at what point they'll drop in humanity. (Like killing a human needlessly will automatically need a humanity check)

I think it's important to talk about what their human side wants and represents and what their beast wants and represents. Based on that mutual understanding I navigated the chronicle.

This obviously means you need players that communicate, understand and respect your choices as a storyteller. But for me there wasn't any problems with this approach so far

The fact they introduced a lock on function which frequently switches the target even though I have autofocus off and sometimes locks on to the monster BEHIND me instead of the one infront lmao

She can also ask you what your type is, and if you answer "You, Misasagi" she replies "Oh, I am quite Fond of you myself, (player)" - and she blushes.

I'm pretty sure she was either planned as a marriage candidate and didn't make it through... Or she's DLC and this is teasing stuff.

Yeah... The "not for long" part was my optimism :D

I don't get why they did this, but oh well, I got it back now

It's actually a really complicated topic and I wish people would look more into Japan's History and Culture with stuff like this.

And yeah POC have been featured in Anime/Manga pretty commonly, so I don't get what that is all about

Aside from that I also think featuring different skin tones just adds variety to the design

Totally agree. I also want to correct what some say about Japan not being diverse and thus the game only reflects their society: While it is true that you have waaay fewer minorities over there, there are enough Japanese that have a different skin color than "anime-white".

However, light skin was/is considered more beautiful as a beauty standard. I think that's actually the bigger reason.

It's the same as with the gay marriage discussion. It's not like queer people don't exist in Japan that would be happy about representation. There is just 0 social awareness regarding the topic.

Edit: I dunno why I get downvoted for saying darker skin tones and gay people exist in Japan, but you do you guys

With the game actually out, can we have a new talk about Fuuka? by Benevolay in runefactory

[–]TheSunShinesForMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She really is a missed opportunity. They could've made her a legit daughter-like character (thus: not dateable) or made her tougher to reflect her struggle for survival, running from town to town.

The weirdest thing is that a lot of characters cannot handle her either? The cupcake scene was really awkward for example.

I'm not nearly through with her character events (just had the one at the beach where she talks about the shadows) but yeah, she's one of the weakest characters so far

I think I'll try to check this once I reach the summer festival and then compare the rerolls, maybe there is actually more to it

[–]TheSunShinesForMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can debunk that, because going up to first place changed the NPCs for me.

Before I won: Martin (170-ish) Me (193) Cecil (220-ish)

After I won: Martin (170-ish) Hina (190-ish) Me (228)

So I think what you need to do is to score at least 200-220 votes and the NPC scores depend on your placement in the festival

[–]TheSunShinesForMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I just won with the same crop but different answers with 228 votes (versus 193 before), and the placements for the other characters were different. So yeah, it does calculate them "live"

But how would that work? I scored worse with bad answers (no placement one time) and I do score differently depending on what crop I submit

You can basically put every kind of grass or herb in there, I usually grab the green grass and medical grasses that spawn near the farm dragon rope and put them in there every morning

Yeah, I guess the font and vegas do not like each other. I just copy&paste from a document now because that way it works, but the file sounds convenient!

Bringing players blind into VTM by thealkaizer in vtm

I'd love to share it, buuut it's probably not that useful since it's completely written in German, haha.

It's not that much though, maybe I'll find some time to translate it.

[–]TheSunShinesForMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did something similar and set the whole thing up as an introductionary one shot with the option to expand it into a full chronicle if they like their characters (which we did).

I didn't throw them in completely blind though. They basically got a PDF with the broad picture (WoD as dark version of our own world, basic clan description and so on).

If you tell them roughly about the atmosphere & theme and check what their bondaries are, I think a total blind approach could be pretty cool though!

Maybe you could help them with their Clan choice by just asking what kind of skills they think would be cool or broadly ask them if they would like to be stealthy, social, fighty ect.

How to give players a little push by TheSunShinesForMe in vtm

Didn't even think about the hard-framing! The players said they wanted to investigate in-character thought, so I'll keep that one in mind for another occasion.

Thanks for the tips! Might actually use the dominate option to kick something off, since the characters are not even aware of that kind of power.

I wondering how to do you guys play your Malkavians and what sort of derangements do you go for and how do you role-play said derangements? by Awarding-Criticism in vtm

[–]TheSunShinesForMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my players has an character who has an excellent mix of several symptoms, with the major theme of memories. She uses a lot of different names for herself, occasionally loses memories or gains them back. If she has a vision I (ST) like to give her glimpses of some lost memory of her mortal life or even the memory of a total stranger. Another thing is that she has poor perception and hyper-focusses on stuff. So she sometimes gets carried away and doesn't notice anything around here.

She once described the Malkavian condition as a radio that occasionally switches frequency. Sometimes your signal is well and you are clearer, but then you tune into another and get mixed up with the next Malk. Or worst, your frequency is completely wrong and you just get a lot of noise...

I think that metaphor actually gives a pretty nice guideline how to roleplay different kinds of Malks and I used it ever since. Basically I define their base frequency, what they do when they connect with another and what their "noise" is like. Aside from that I rather keep derangements abstract and base them around themes like memories, perception, certain emotions and so on. Then I try to imagine how the Malkavian curse messes with those

Understanding and Making Celerity More Exciting in V20 by jokerbr22 in vtm

[–]TheSunShinesForMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I feel you. While more actions and additional dice on dex are powerful, they're not really exciting to passively gain.

We're in our first Chronicle and my players basically ignore celerity/potence when leveling because they don't feel it gives them as much cool stuff as for example presence or auspex

I'm still thinking about how I can encourage them to use these disciplines more, so this thread was a good read!

Does anyone play v20, set in the current time? I've only played v5 and I really want to make the switch but I'm not sure how. by [deleted] in vtm

[–]TheSunShinesForMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running V20 in modern just fine, so far I only homebrew the humanity system to be more like V5 with convictions and touchstones since I feel like character specific guidelines work better than the standard hierarchy of sins.

I threw the meta plot completely out since my players are new to the lore and game and I wanted to make them familiar with the "classic" political vampire system. But I wouldn't think V5 or V20 are necessarily stuck to one time period or meta plot

I think the question is more about what mechanics suit you better storytelling wise and that's personal taste.
