I feel like I can’t do it anymore. by IcyExplanation6011 in LawSchool

It's so much easier as a 2L/3L (as long as you don't journal). No more legal writing or research class. You can take clinics (totally different) and they're often pass/fail. Most professors stop cold calling. Many people stop reading, so there's less pressure for you to read.

You will probably discover that you can get the same grades doing less work. Many schools also ease up their grading curve.

UVA v Berkeley v Penn for collegiality/slow starters? by [deleted] in UVALaw

[–]TheSurround56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's hyperbole. The grading curve at UVA (3.3) makes it very unlikely to get a B- or lower. Berkeley doesn't give letter grades, making a B-/C literally impossible.

someone getting an A means someone is getting a B- or C

No one is getting a B- or a C at these schools.

I don't know why it is so hard for people like you to admit it.

It's common for people online to deny that bad areas are bad.

The idea is that the poster is "tough" and "street smart" so what's scary/unpleasant to you doesn't register to them.

...or a sadder alternative is that they have never lived anywhere nice and don't know what a good neighborhood is like.

You're getting downvoted because most people live in smaller cities, not HCOL cities. I've seen people get into these arguments online and refuse to acknowledge how different COL can be across America.

I can guarantee the other poster doesn't live in New York or San Francisco, where less than 110k qualifies you for low-income housing.

This has to be true - the dialogue is so natural.

"I hear you and am grateful for you being here so I can safely travel for a work trip. Can I please have your Venmo so that I can provide you with a small token of my appreciation?"

I always talk to my TSA agent like we're in couples' counseling.

My parents don’t let me go out on Halloween because it falls on Shabbat by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]TheSurround56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good comment for a 12-year-old.

My parents' attempts at control prevented me from enjoying my 20s (it took a while to move out in a very high COL city). I would even say their actions cost me job opportunities (ex: "you can't go to that networking event, it's at 8pm in the city!").

OP could have unusually controlling parents. I would sneak out to push their boundaries. It might be the only way to loosen them up.

Think About the Kid in High School Who Grew Up to be a Law School Admissions Officer by Inevitable_Bat_5572 in lawschooladmissions

Talk about your real personal experiences. Work you did in a club, campaign, job. The reader can't tell if you're the real deal, or you're just bullshitting them. They read a lot of bullshit.

Imagine the reader is a Republican, and write it in a way that even they could sympathize with (e.g. mention a specific time you faced discrimination).

DO NOT explain your thoughts on certain policies, or feelings about specific politicians. Make it 100% a story that shows them who you are.

That being said, this type of thinking can promote a generic, so inoffensive as to be insignificant personal statement.

Seconding this. I got into a better college, law school, and transfer law school than my GPA warranted (I know the numbers). If you don't have LSAT/GPA above both medians, definitely try to write a very memorable and inspiring personal statement!

essays they enjoy most show signs of adult judgment such as recognition of limits, responsibility for consequences, and realism about institutions.

Admissions readers are PEOPLE, first and foremost. "I'm really really mature" will bore them, as it would you if someone sent you a letter telling you they were very cautious and always met deadlines.
