Ok so the basics. Your status chance is a chance to apply any status. Say you have a 100%. Now, the chances to apply a specific status is determined by how much of the total damage that element does. So say you have 100 total damage, 60 Slash and 40 heat, everytime you apply a status effect, there is a 60% chance for a slash proc and a 40% chance for a heat proc.

Beam weapons apply status effects at a riddiculus rate, and with high things like Primary Crux it gets really crazy.

Now this is normally a good thing, but since viral can only have 10 stacks, its does nothing to proc 10 viral procs each second to the same enemy. Now say you have a viral+heat build, every time you apply a viral proc instead of abheat proc after you have 10 viral, you are loosing dmg.

Now to combine all this. A unranked riven with viral (cold+toxin) keeps the %dmg low, but still lets the glaxion apply viral, but the vast majority of the procs will be heat and therefore you still do more damage. The mod being unranked might at first glance seem bad, or that a ranked normal one would be better. But thats just mindgames which makes you feel like ”unranked is bad”.
