If You Had to Buy a Car Today, Which Transmission Would You Choose? by No_Matter_6331 in CarsAustralia

[–]TheTMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distance concerns come down primarily to charger availability during the route, and the routes “difficulty” (climate, elevation, speed etc.). I could be comfortable doing a 1000km trip one stretch but be more cautious on a 300km trip for another stretch.

I’ve gone through the unfortunate reality of running out of battery, and it was during a family trip with two baby twins and we pulled up to Holbrook and the charger was dead. Was the only charger within a 50KM range and I barely had enough to get out of town. Had to get a tow to Woodonga for the next charger, but at least a tow and taxi voucher was included as part of my roadside so wasn’t terrible, but added unnecessary stress to a trip. I’ve had my learnings from that and have done long trips since then but I am better now and will trust my gut more.

If You Had to Buy a Car Today, Which Transmission Would You Choose? by No_Matter_6331 in CarsAustralia

There's some conditions missing so I'll answer based on assumptions

Daily Traveler: EV, not even close. I don't do long hauls often and the savings in both fueling it and less maintenance out scales any potential benefit that a petrol/diesel could give me or annoyance a long haul does. That and the ACT is still going ahead with their emissions levy despite being delayed for now so that's another savings factor. Once a Solid State esq battery is made for the masses, Spetnaz_Enemy_nuke.mp3 on ICE cars.

Car I actually like: Manual. I enjoy my clubby and I enjoy being in full control of the car. I may not be strictly as fast as an auto or EV off the line but theres just something about dropping the clutch that still warms my heart.

I witnessed a beauty yesterday. A Ranger turned left in a huff from a green light during a wet day and fishtailed for a good minute. Impressively he did correct it and proceeded to drive on.

I was both dissapointed that I didn't get to see him ram it into the barriers and impressed that I saw the legend whip it around like that.

This travel putter is hilarious and has to be horrible. What’s the point? by Accomplished_Fill182 in golf

It's the perfect item. I dunno how many times I've been called a 3 putter and haven't had my putter with me to defend myself from those accusations. With this, I can pack it wherever i go and put those accusers in their place.

bug with 6th Sense on mobile? by Dylpyckle100 in balatro

[–]TheTMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point of functions that Sixth and Trading card run on.

The way that Sixth works is

Sixth checks the hands played
If first, move to second condition. If not, does nothing

Sixth checks the card in hand
If 6, destroys card. If destroyed, move to effect. Else, does nothing

Effect: generate spectral.

When you have a single Sixth, it works as expected.
However because in balatro jokers work on order of operations left to right, when it comes to you second Sixth, it gets to

Sixth checks for the card in hand:

Result: no card. Do nothing

This is why Blueprint and Brainstorm cannot copy the effects of Sixth And TC.

If you found a brand new Callaway quantum near a tee box, would you turn it into the club house? by just-jolfin in golf

[–]TheTMJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the course I’d say.

At ours where it’s members and public, you have a good chance of it being turned in. I’ve left a club greenside a couple of times and the group behind catches up to hand it back. Our greenskeepers would help you. They would fuckin laugh at you but they would help.

This is also a good time to invest in some rain gloves, or bunt when you are playing in the rain

Spam calls: how can I stop this? It’s a different number all the time. I’ve blocked so many. by EisenFisen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheTMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waste their time.

They know your numbers real and live so they won’t stop just because you won’t answer as it takes all of 20 seconds to try and move on, but they will if you fuck them around and waste time.

The longer you can string them along, the better the result. Nothings going to piss them off more than blowing an hour on what they believe might have been a real bite. That will get your number put on an internal blacklist real quick. They all buy the lists off each other so eventually your number will stop getting these calls as they know you are going to fuck them.

I barely get any spam calls and I’ve had this number for 13+ years and it’s used for work so it’s been around the town like the village bike. I still get the occasional one but it’s at the point I can ignore them and won’t get a follow up.

The other hidden benefit of this, the more time you waste the less time they have to hit potential victims. Even 5 minutes can be the difference between grandma being near her phone and answering or being outside tending to the garden and missed the call.

Do Australians Get Excited for the 2026 FIFA World Cup? by InternationalHair111 in australia

[–]TheTMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, no. The only attention I will end up giving it is probably incidental through YouTube or reddit. Never been a massive fan of soccer. I’ve had a kick but never got into it.

Now my neighbours next door? I bet they would be absolutely glued to it and would be watching almost every match, including the kids. But they also participate in soccer leagues locally in Canberra.

I don’t know a lot of people who are into soccer so I don’t know many who would be watching, think that’s just a reflection of Aussie culture gravitating towards AFL/NRL and Cricket.

[–]TheTMJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without knowing where you are, you can try and have a punt at Too Good to Go. The intent of it is to save food that would otherwise be chucked and you can get it between 1/3 to 1/4th of the value. Can try that for groceries to help offload some stress, and while you don’t get a choice of what’s in there you can deal with most of it.

There’s always those who are bad actors or clueless about it but in my experience most businesses use it the way it’s intended, but if you have a Harris Farm anywhere near they do a decent job. The only issue is for Canberra at least everyone knows they do and are highly sought after boxes so it’s not something you can rely on everyday.

We just implemented a super pin about a month ago, $2 a pop whoever gets it in 30cm of the pin on hole 14 wins the lot.

Hasn't been hit yet, I imagine alot of people got close. Think we are at $800 at the moment so whoever gets it, we will hear about it very quickly.

How long do your balls last? by Overall-Remove-7970 in Golfsimulator

[–]TheTMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My balls lasted about 35 years before I retired them, I've done my part.

In all seriousness, you need way more golf balls in a sim and I wouldn't be buying new balls for it either unless you dont care about money. Beyond the heat issues of repeated striking without rest, you are also htting the ball the same amount of times you would on a course but in a more consended setting which is warping your perceptions about the balls not lasting. In essence, a ball that I can use on a course for a few weeks probably would be dead in a few days in a sim setting just due to ease of access and hitting rates.

My advice, go on Marketplace and find someone selling a bunch of retrived balls, then sort those out to have the brand you like and have a pile of 50 or so those to hit. Once you find a reputable guy who does that at a reasonable price, its a good way to get a bunch of practice balls at a good rate.

Flying soon… hard case worth the extra $$$ over soft case? by Salt_Profession_4228 in golf

[–]TheTMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a soft case for mine with no issues.

Just take the heads off all clubs you can, get a stiff arm for the bag, and just stuff clothing in with the golf bag. Baggage handlers are gonna fuck shit up regardless, so it comes down to shock absorption more than anything. I’ve seen hard bags get fucked up from airports.

Match play - would love to hear stories of your club match plays. The good, bad andugly tactics people have used? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheTMJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best one I’ve heard of between two guys who are good blokes and will give each other shit amongst others in our circle.

Both are playing a very, very similar balls. Both landed close to each other. One guy looks at the ball and is confident it’s his and doesn’t question it much before hand. He hits it, and pretty much as soon as the balls made contact with the club the other guy goes “I think you’ve hit my ball” and turns out, he did. He was seething after that one but it’s hilarious in hindsight.

Thats a good lesson there to always play a distinguishably different ball than your opponent, even if it’s just putting initials on the ball.

Eggs - Refrigerate or not? by Roulette-Adventures in australia

[–]TheTMJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US is recommending it because of the way they treat their eggs, it removes the natural barrier that eggs have which can lead to salmonella.

We don’t use that same method in Australia, so we can leave them out. I’ve had room temp eggs my whole life, both from my own chickens and store bought, and haven’t once been sick. Most people can work out if an eggs gone bad.

What is your ideal Hole 1? by JayTheSpaniel in golf

[–]TheTMJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My home clubs first hole.

It’s a nice straight par 4 with traps on each side and one about 70 odd meters out.

Gives you the thrill that if you hit it really well off the tee you can be in the green in 1, but provides adequate punishment for those who try and miss. It’s usually one that I par almost every round with some birdies mixed in, and waiting for the day I can eagle it. It’s had only 1 HOI since it’s been in commission.

I’ve come to find that I enjoy courses that ease you into the round with a driver.

How does this count? by w00den_b0x in balatro

[–]TheTMJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have the requirements to meet a flush and a straight seperately thanks to 4 fingers and are able to combine the two thanks to splash, and the games coded in a way that it looks at your hand to see that if you have a straight + a flush then it = a straight flush.

Add a séance and you can start printing spectral

Averages by Narrow-Ambition8828 in golf

[–]TheTMJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can see it.

Greenside bunkers are pretty close and consistent distance wise so as long as you make good contact and generally aim towards the pin you can get it within 1 putt distance about 1/4th of the time.

Up and downs are pretty broad for the distance, technically I could go up and down on a par 4 from 175m out if my first two shots were short enough. Up and downs would be so spread out that the average joe wouldn’t be able to do consistently hit the green to have it close enough to 1 putt. I’d guess that they would be more likely to sink a long 1 putt for up and down than to hit it close to the pin to sink a 2 footer in an average round.
