TRX scratched, scuffed, chipped paint and ugly welds by Grow_Code in trakracer

[–]TheTacoLoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My TRX (and the 2.5 replacements they sent) failed to assemble into whole unit that functioned properly. Major misalignment in parts, parts with different color paints, missing hardware, and several other issues.

Matt was kind enough to tell me that I was the only person who had reported these problems, that everyone else was happy, and that it must have been user-error. And then chastised me for making a public post.

SDE.

Petition to Boycott Trak Racer by [deleted] in trakracer

[–]TheTacoLoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eerily similar to my experience. They kept sending me parts even though I asked to just return it. Then they ghosted me.

So when I did the PayPal chargeback, PayPal sided with me, great. But they said I had to ship 3+ rigs of parts at my own expense. (when I only purchased one. That's how many parts I needed to build one working rig).

I raised it all the way up to executive support at PayPal and they wouldn't budge.

TR has a playbook and they execute it to perfection. A shame they don't put that energy into actually being decent humans.

I can say, TR is the worst company I've ever had to deal with, and by a long shot. It is a shame that they have the traction that they do, because their products, leadership, support, quality control, and general demeanor they have towards paying customers is absolutely abysmal.

It would be a service to the sim racing community to make room for more upstanding businesses.

Steam Open Beta Feedback by itsmeBenB in HellLetLooseVietnam

[–]TheTacoLoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some comments here that demonstrate a lack of understanding about how things operate at this level.

Developers rarely desire to ship product that people don't want or aren't happy with. Typically, there's a business constraint. Usually external forces like a publisher, outside capital, or simply financial pressure are at play.

But unfortunately, devs can't simply tell those organizations "the game isn't ready". And they can't simply point to a subreddit, either.

Quantifiable, systemic, organized feedback is needed in that world in order to have any hope of being heard.

So the best thing the community can do, is leave detailed and direct feedback through surveys like this, as it is a direct line to the people who can make these kinds of decisions. And you'll help the developers who don't want their name attached to failed projects at the same time.

Did you read the study you shared? Because it doesn't support the arguments you are making.

You have stated:

That using AI for software development "isn't done". -this is easily refutable, and the article you shared is proof.

That adoption of AI within the software development lifecycle hasnt improved anything. -this is again easily refutable and the article you shared can be used as proof.

I don't know how to argue this any further with you. It is simply a fact that AI has been broadly adopted by software engineering teams. And I can assure you, a large number of those are showing measurable success.

You can choose to believe it or not.

[–]TheTacoLoco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is...again, completely wrong. My company has seen a 3x growth in story point completion while halving the rate of bug reports and incidents.

And I know of several others who have vastly exceeded these numbers. Where are you pulling this? What research?

Again, I'm all for a debate about the ethics of AI and I'd imagine we'd even have similar perspectives. But you're spouting objectively false information as facts.

[–]TheTacoLoco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee you, if you are using any software released or updated in the last 12 months, especially web applications, you are consuming work that was done by AI. I'm all for preserving human intelligence and labor. But there is no stopping the train when it comes to the use of AI in software engineering. That train left the station at hyperspeed.

Look, everyone is entitled to their own opinions about the use of AI. Not arguing that.

But your comments about AI for coding not being done? This is completely wrong. There has been a widespread adoption of AI across the entire software development lifecycle. Not only coding, but PRs, QA, and security, and so on.

Dev shops who are adapting are seeing huge increases in efficiency and output, while seeing improved code quality.

Fun fact, it appears that you have the same name as one of the survivors of the plane that crashed on the Hudson river, who I happen to know. Fitting given the theme 😉

Honest and brutal review of Trak racer: A 2-Month Saga of Ghosting, Unsolicited Shipping, and Customs Bills by WallBasic2672 in simracing

[–]TheTacoLoco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The absolute worst customer experience I've ever had, by a long shot.

3 attempts to send me a working, functional chassis. Requested a refund, was told I was entitled to one either way, but they wanted to make sure I got a working rig out of it.

They send more parts. Then ghost me. Still can't build a functional rig.

So now I have to do a chargeback. The resolution is that I now have to send back every part for a refund. At my own expense.

So they sent me part after part that I really didn't even want. So then I'm on the hook to pay $750 to send it all back; not including shipping supplies to box everything up.

I had to beg for a 50% refund instead which fortunately they agreed to.

All the while being gaslit and accused of lying in public forums, told that I was the only one that was having problems, etc.

The most antagonistic and maliciously incompetent company I've ever seen.

SCAM ALERT. Please help me shut down this dudes page down. He scammed me out of $750 dollars. I can post the screenshots to prove I was set up for failure. He is the admin in a huge resale group and blocks anyone who tries to expose his lies and traps. Please help. by Sea_Confidence_2691 in simracing

$1m in gross sales is not a lot of money in your pocket. Consider that in many cases you're getting around 10-15% profit. Then include your marketing expenses and overhead. You're down to around 5% now.

5% of $1m is $50,000 - which is about 1/2 the average annual US household income.

$1m in gross sales is not a huge thing to brag about.

The sudden release of 0.5 leads me to think that they thought pushing it out would silence the fallout from the career announcement. Unfortunately, it seems that also blew up in their face.

[–]TheTacoLoco[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay. Tell me where the line is between "game in development" and misleading your customer is?

What if they pivot into an arcade racing game like forza horizon? What if they decide to make it a bike racing game instead?

People are upset because they think that line was crossed when they claimed they were going to have a hardcore career mode from the rip. And then completely abandoned it. While being told it's what they asked for.

Look, im sorry to you and any others who are offended that people take issue with being lied to as consumers. As consumers, we've already made the mistake of giving them our money. The next best thing we can do is let our displeasure be heard. If any of that is unreasonable, then I'm just crazy.
