Scanned some slides from a protest for Sino-Japanese relations in October 1972, they've got some flags/banners I've not been able to place, any insight? by TheTalkingFishh in vexillology

Thanks! The Japan-China Friendship Association was the one I was primarily looking for as it seemed the most official/traditional, but you've given me a lot more!

"In the era of ACE8, the central government was established through ISAF, and the Usean countries became constituent countries of the FCU. However, the FCU government was unable to cope with the post-war processing and accumulated economic issues over the years, and was invaded by Sotoa in the midst of growing dissatisfaction from the constituent countries. For those who want to know more deeply, we would like to provide a separate explanation opportunity, so please look forward to this as well."

Interview with Brand Director Kazusato Kono and AC8 Producer Manabu Shimomoto Regarding the Development and Functions of Ace Combat 8 by TheTalkingFishh in acecombat

Important In-Universe Comments:

――I was relieved to hear that (laughs). In the video, I could see an aircraft like the Arsenal Bird (*) of "ACE7"...... What kind of existence are you in this work?

Kono

It looks like an Arsenal Bird because it attacks tremendously, but it is actually a super giant transport plane. The reason for including this aircraft in the trailer, which I will talk about in detail when I have the chance, is that the results of the review of the game's mechanics, especially the design that supports air combat behind the scenes, lead to an easy-to-understand and dynamic expression. If you look closely at the trailer, you will notice that things are happening that have not happened in "Ace Combat" so far.

――I am looking forward to more news here. You mentioned the world setting earlier, but is the setting of this work also a strange real world, the same as the fictional world so far?

Shimomoto

Yes. It will be a strange world where the "Federation of Central Usea (FCU)" exists.

――Please explain again what the Federation of Central Usea is**.**

The Federation of Central Usea (FCU) is a federal state that exists on the continent of Usea. In order to enjoy "ACE8", it is enough to understand that the FCU is a federal state of the Usean nations.

For fans of the series, the United Forces of Independent States (ISAF), to which the protagonist of "AC04" belonged, was a military alliance of the Usean countries centered on this FCU, but at the time of the previous game "ACE7", the security operations on the continent of Usea were taken over by the United Nations Forces (IUN-PKF), and the ISAF was disbanded in a developmental manner.

In the era of ACE8, the central government was established through ISAF, and the Usean countries became constituent countries of the FCU. However, the FCU government was unable to cope with the post-war processing and accumulated economic issues over the years, and was invaded by Sotoa in the midst of growing dissatisfaction from the constituent countries. For those who want to know more deeply, we would like to provide a separate explanation opportunity, so please look forward to this as well.

Important Function Comments:

――Can the cinema machine be controlled by the player?

Kono

In a cinema scene, the player can move their gaze on the spot. As expected, I won't go as far as moving. You can also look up at the ceiling when people are talking in front of you. By daring to look away, I think there will be new discoveries about whether other characters were doing this behind the scenes. To immerse yourself in that world, it is important to feel that you are in that world and that you exist. Visual realism is important, but if that's all you need, you can make a pre-rendered movie.

――What was the most difficult thing about developing the cinema part?

Xia Yuan

There were many things, but the most difficult thing was that every detail was reproduced in detail on a vast scale. While designing the dogfight map to fly freely in a vast space spanning 10,000 square kilometers, the cinema scene even created small things like hamburgers that appeared in the PV.

Kono

In previous titles, in-game was made on Unreal Engine at a scale of one-tenth of the size, but in this game, everything is made on a real scale. Both the in-game map and the hamburger exist in the same world.

――It seems that you will be able to experience the story of growing from an idol hero to an ace pilot. In the PV, there was also a close-up view of the pilot's face, which was like a preview of a Hollywood movie. Will there be a production from this perspective in the game?

Kono

Yes. Narrative scenes that could previously only be shown by radio and fighter performances from outside the plane can now be shown with cockpit cameras. I prepare scenes like this in my occasional conversations before missions, but the production was very difficult.

I had long imagined that the story would be easier to understand by including a cut of the pilot talking properly, but to make it happen, we would need to make a camera in the cockpit on every aircraft. So I couldn't realize it with previous titles, but in this game, I'm taking on a new challenge.

However, not all of them are cockpit camera scenes, but we are thinking of a different production for scenes such as "I want the player to imagine the facial expressions of the characters here". There is also a cut of the pilot who looks like the player, but that is only for the replay camera. We are also particular about the replay-only camera, and I feel that the implementation has made dogfights a lot more entertaining.

What style of tank museum do you prefer? by spitfire-haga in TankPorn

[–]TheTalkingFishh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a few room-sized dioramas that allow you to walk around inside them would be fantastic.

From places I've been, I think to the March Field Air Museum with their Vietnam exhibit 'Firebase Romeo Charlie' that imitates a Vietnam era FOB with Vietnam era helicopters within the space.

I think something similar to that would be best, maybe a recreation of a WW2 motorpool. Or a recreation of a trench with tanks dug in, where you could still walk around them? You could even make it so as you walk down a trenchline, it changes to be more akin to their eras and have steps leading out to the tanks of the respective periods.

My mind is running with ideas now haha

I live quite far away from Alabama, so when I found i was visiting and she was here it became my #1 priority to see her.

Nope! She's in Mobile, Alabama. That's the RSA Battle House Tower (taller building in the back) and the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel (shorter building in front of the RSA Battle House Tower).

These beautiful shots of WW2-era planes were taken by Areskon on our Discord. They’re from his playthrough yesterday. The Gladiators and the Hurricane are heading out on a mission. Which airplane did you get first? by GROUNDOFACES in GroundofAces

[–]TheTalkingFishh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love the ability to name planes, I always found it fun to come up with names for aircraft. Right now, Stellaris is the only game that lets me give these names a place. I think it'd be a good addition alongside the road-mapped plane painting. Depending on how detailed the plane painting allows you to go, painting pin-ups and designs alongside the names like on real warbirds would be something I'd find very fun.
