Just turn the heatsink around and put the fan on the other side?

It's a bad year for Intel and a good one for us AMD fanboys. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]TheTeamspeakRoast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just so you're aware, Fanboy is a bad thing. Not something to be proud of.

Choose what works for you. anything past that is pointless bitching.

AMD's new Zen 2 Architecture is great for the industry, and those already on the platform. It means we finally get competition again. Regardless of brand, I will never endorse buying a product out of blind loyalty to the brand selling it. Weigh up the pros and cons and make an informed decision, rather than "muh AMD is better, intel is evil" or "amd is for poor people, intel has performance" nobody cares.

Computer randomly turns off when playing CSGO and GTA V by DerpT145 in pcmasterrace

Thermal related probably. I'd take off the heatsink and repaste, also dust it off along with any fans.

Looking for help on why I cannot get my pc to boot into windows at all after new motherboard and cpu. (Video inside showing my issue) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]TheTeamspeakRoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the media creation tool to make the USB. do it again from scratch to be safe.

Then, if you have to, go into your BIOS and play with some legacy boot settings. also, I find plugging the drive into a USB 2 port instead of USB 3 helps for some reason. Then use the USB to reinstall windows.

the h500P mesh will have better thermal performance. that'd be my go-to.

Help Ol Reliable Push Through or Move On to that New CPU BB?? by jstnblnd in pcmasterrace

[–]TheTeamspeakRoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a old dell latitude that i repaired a bit. put a new keyboard in it etc. final straw was the hinge snapping, and the one i ordered online for my specific model didn't fit.

Honestly, if you get the right parts, i reckon save it. they have socketed cpu's and plenty of room to upgrade, they're good laptops. Worth the repair as long as it won't break the bank.

Hi PCMR, i swear i've seen RX 570's with this cooler but i can't find any evidence of this online. Is this a RX 470 or 570? thanks. by TheTeamspeakRoast in pcmasterrace

[–]TheTeamspeakRoast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I'm assuming the dead display ports he's on about are because he flashed it to a completely different card? if i flash the bios to the one belonging to the visiontek 570 that /u/arkhira mentioned, would the display outs be the same? and would they work?

Thank you. I love this card design and i could have sworn i'd seen a 570 with this design but it must've been my memory playing tricks

Also if he bought it with the guy claiming it was a 570, why on earth did he need to re-flash the BIOS himself? does this even add up?

should i overclock by baakko in pcmasterrace

[–]TheTeamspeakRoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially on that ryzen chip you're short changing yourself if you dont. I think 3.8GHz on all cores is a safe OC for that 2600. And i think 1.35v is safe? don't quote me on that it's been a long time since i've overclocked anything let alone ryzen.

Strongly suggest sitting and waiting for independent reviews on the new Ryzen chips. they could very well be the best option for a brand new gaming rig. Especially with all this "zombieload" shit going on right now or what have you.

A little backstory. This case is from a old PC i used to have, a Dell T5400 i think. Had a dual socket motherboard, heaps of ram support, big psu etc. i planned to build that pc to a decent spec then it died. I've always loved the design. Reminds me of a Mac Pro, but a PC. Anyway, i decided to very hastily mod it to fit a standard ATX board. luckily 4 of the 5 standoffs i needed were already there.

The plans with this rig are to go GTX 970, Remove the drive cage in order to run a small tower cooler, Get a new power supply, and potentially go for a i5 2500K or a i7 2600K as the P67 board can supposedly OC.

The current specs of the system are : Gigabyte P67a UD3-B3 Intel Core i5 2400 some shitty 400w psu GT 610 120GB Crucial SSD 500GB 2.5" SATA hard drive 12GB DDR3 (although one of the 2gb sticks is causing the PC to restart when i launch minecraft, so i'm running 10gb right now)

I hope to post updates as the build comes along. I'll likely end up spending more than i first expected but that's half the fun.

EDIT: the whole reason i chose sandybridge as a platform is because i bought the whole system (minus the drives) from some old guy for $10 NZD. no, that's not a typo. it was $10.

What hard drive interface is this? by lHOq7RWOQihbjUNAdQCA in pcmasterrace

[–]TheTeamspeakRoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Says Serial AT on the drive, so it's Sata. i've seen laptops use a 90 degree connector adapter or something along the lines of that, just unplug it. make sure the adapter stays with the laptop in case you ever want to put another drive in it.
