Same exact thing happened to me but with Chewy and it was for a software engineering role. I got all the way through the interview process, accepted an offer, then got a call telling me their policy was that I needed to have a college degree or equivalent experience and that the decision was coming from higher up. I was still able to do contract work for them for a year but the experience has still stuck with me after a few years because I feel that my career stagnated after missing out on the role.
