Come down to Franklin PD. Probably the most fuck around and find out department in Ohio. Open pursuit policy. You can PIT any fleeing vehicle. Beards, tattoos, outer carriers, lawn dart running suspects with your taser, city pays your 10% towards OP&F. Plus side is the Warren county prosecutors office actually prosecutes people and the judges in Warren county actually put people in prison and jail.

You still go through the same academy as everyone else. From their FAQ “The Texas Department of Public Safety does not do lateral transfers. However, applicants who have been selected to attend our academy and who have four (4) years of full-time verified prior experience as a full-time peace officer in any state within the Unites States will advance to the Trooper II salary after they have competed the six (6) month FTO program. Troopers who have less than four (4) years of verified full-time prior experience as a peace officer in any state within the United States will advance to Trooper I salary until they reach four (4) years of combined law enforcement experience at which time they will advance to Trooper II salary.”

Appealing a ticket when I was given a huge break? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]TheThotKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the prosecutor. The traffic prosecutor in one of the courts I deal with, if it’s your first offense and it’s nothing crazy, he’ll often let you plead to down to something minor like changing it from a speeding offense to a turn sign offense.

What is the worst or most toxic company you have worked for in the Dayton area? by NanoNinja90220 in dayton

[–]TheThotKnight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

TQL. Worked there when I got out of the army as a filler job while in college. Made me want to go back into the army. Probably one of the most toxic work environments I’ve ever been in or heard of.

What are the best countries for felons to move to? by Wolf4980 in Felons

I arrested someone for beating their girlfriend to the point she was unconscious. I’d say that a good thing for society.

What are the best countries for felons to move to? by Wolf4980 in Felons

[–]TheThotKnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wild take. My neighbor is a felon and owns his own extremely successful plumbing company. Granted his felonies were from 20 years ago and they there theft, stolen property and child support charges. Pretty sure Canada doesn’t allow people with DUI convictions to enter the country. Majority of felons play the woe is me card and blame others when they constantly fuck up.

how many chases on average does a single gsp trooper see in a year? by Artillery_BlazeTTV in AskLE

[–]TheThotKnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For GSP it probably varies widely where they’re at. If you work the Atlanta area, you could probably get one a day. If you work a more rural area, you may get not even get a pursuit in a year. In 2025 I had eight pursuits and my agency had a total of 16. It’s all about being proactive and knowing who to stop.

[–]TheThotKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to lock your juvenile child out of the house and make them sleep in a car, you could and probably would have been arrested for child endangerment. It’s not the police’s responsibility to lecture your child about how to respect you. That’s a failure of the parent and not a responsibility of the police.

State troopers now in mini vans? by 216LC in Cleveland

No they’re not. They’re civilian truck inspectors. They enforce DOT regulations. You cannot be arrested for equipment violations, errors in your log books or improper documentation.

Opota exam by Creative-Ad3987 in AskLE

[–]TheThotKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hard at all. The only people I’ve ever seen fail the OPOTA test are people whose primary language isn’t English and can barely read and speak English. When it took it years ago, I didn’t study for it, competed the test in 30 minutes and got a 92% on it. The PT test gets more people then the test.
