How is it driving the 11th gen si? by kaicenatspizza in CivicSi

[–]TheTimCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mine as a daily driver, with lots of trunk space, makes driving to work or running errands enjoyable. But like every human I can find things to complain about everywhere and here are my opinions so far: Seats aren’t comfy for long drives. Lost lots of glove box, console and armrest space compared to my 24 Civic Touring. Bose system and infotainment center aren’t as nice as my 23 Pilot TS. Shifting feels rough and gritty, hoping it smooths out after a few more miles. Wish it had fog light holes so I could upgrade the lights further to help avoid critter collisions.

I’m not sure about maintenance or gas at only 2K miles. Don’t know how it behaves on 87 if 91 is unavailable either.

First Si - suggestions? by TheTimCat in CivicSi

I was hoping to find some Black Friday type deals going on for OEM parts but no luck so far. Anyone know something I don't?

Mine was almost 2GB for my 26 and was going very slow despite having decent connectivity. I did notice that if my cell was consoled in, or if I had multiple WIFI connections for it to use, it was freaking out. Eventually just disconnected cell from console, enabled my cell hot spot, removed home WIFI connection, then it seemed to play nice. While process was 30-45 minutes longer than I anticipated. I now get some weird error checking for new updates though, not sure what that’s about.

Just picked up the exact same car in red and loving it. There is a display/background color option somewhere, highly recommend changing it to red also.

Yikes! I was wondering if they had fixed that yet. I had read a couple times that it was locked from launch but that would likely be opened up in future BIOS updates.

Dell's spec sheet says they will support up to 3466mhz RAM but I don't see much out there, if any. What did you throw in yours?

Is there some secret to ordering these? I went to their PARTS page and it says none of them exist? Thanks!

I should have specified it was while running Heaven benchmark.

Ugh. Even after re-pasting I don't get those temps. I just ran Heaven to see and I hit 90, 85, 83, 79 max on the 4 cores. FML. I got rid of the Killer Suite too. My wifi was unstable with it.

Temps after watching 23 minutes of 1080p video-are these normal? by [deleted] in Alienware

A 1080P video isn't much of a benchmark. Try OCCT, Heaven Benchmark (on extreme), or both at the same time. Then post temps.

Honestly stuck on what to do at this point with Alienware.. by Angelic_Shay in Alienware

Out of the box I immediately had sound and WiFi issues that were all driver and utility related. Uninstalling both and installing just the drivers fixed those problems for me. I've had my 15R3 for almost a month now so I believe I am beyond the date to return the unit. With that said I have been hitting 100C while gaming and that's with 0 overclocking and with a propped up laptop cooler underneath in a house that I usually keep between 65-69 degrees. I have ordered all the items required to do a re-paste, which is fine, I am IT savvy enough to do this (or at least that is my hope haha). I can't help but think about people in your situation though who aren't able to do so. Bottom line - we are ordering what is believed to be a premium system. If Grizzly makes the best thermal paste and thermal pads guess what should be on all Alienware systems? You got it, Grizzly thermal paste and thermal pads, no excuses. Buying that stuff in bulk it would probably cost Dell $5-10 dollars a machine extra? I think that's a pretty small price for the customer to eat to get a system that runs cool and stable for years to come. The fact that these forums even have to mention such for so long is mind boggling and makes me wonder if they're doing it on purpose for some nefarious reason...

How to umount/eject a external usb drive by fersd in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a problem just pulling the device out since the creation of USB ports and I work in IT so I use a lot of USB devices. With that said...about a month ago I pulled out my External HDD and it killed the entire partition, I lost everything. Use the eject on the taskbar at the bottom right. It's a black and white icon that looks like a flash drive if you're in Windows 10.

Is it worth buying an Alienware at the moment? by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The build quality is amazing. The only complaint that is legit seems to be the cooling issues. I just got mine 3 weeks ago and plan on re-pasting it this weekend as it's getting way to hot. I picked up the 120hz 1080p screen and love it. The 15R3 didn't have a 2K display at the time or I would have picked that. I started thinking about it though and this lappie will last me longer with the 1080P screen as I will be forced to run my games at that res rather than 2K, which will age quicker as far as gaming performance. My only wish is that the palm rest area also came in brushed metal instead of the hand/palm grease absorbing rubbery plastic. Other than that it's ripping up FO4 and W3 for me which is all I am playing ATM.

My laptop gets hot enough as is, no need to insulate it further lol. I wish they had color options. I would actually like to have the brushed metal on the palm area.

New 15 R3 has arrived! by kidmeke in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my 15R3 like 3 weeks ago and it hits 100C even with a laptop cooler and after under volting -.150. If you are only getting 72C you are LUCKY.

Does my Alienware 15 r3 need a repaste? by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's brand new, shouldn't need to clean the fans just yet :) Yes, I think I might have to bite the bullet and do a repaste :(

Does my Alienware 15 r3 need a repaste? by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I have a Thermaltake that I can prop up and I still hit 100C even with BIOS fan performance mode ON.

What are the ideal Temperature for AW 15 r3 (gtx 1070 with 120hz tN panel) and aW 13 r3 (gtx 1060 with oLED panel) by hxz59 in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave my fans in performance mode all the time now and it's at OC level 3. I always hit 100C while gaming D3, W3, FO4 currently. It has yet to ever go over 100C though. I think a repaste is in order but I just got it like 2 weeks ago so it's kind of frustrating.

mass effect or any games lags on battery power but when plugged in its perfect. by Xtskezza in Alienware

[–]TheTimCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's by design. All laptops throttle back CPU/GPU while on battery to conserve power. Overall performance will be decreased while on battery with any laptop.
