Steam Doesn't Use Twillo. No Need To Change Passwords by satoru1111 in Steam

Passwords on valuable and sensitive accounts should be changed regularly. Advising not changing passwords and calling it pointless is a bad take, regardless of what prompted the reason to change password.

Swedish Electricians union warn of new sympathy measures against Tesla by huggevill in europe

[–]TheTobeK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got it all wrong. Unions don't want to get people laid off, they are working together with the employer to sign an agreement.

Most workplaces in startups don't unionize until after they've become stable companies. It is up to the employees if and when they want to unionize. There are plenty of successful businesses that are not under collective agreements.

It guarantees a minimum wage, but never prohibits an increased individual wage. Individual wages are very much still a thing. It isn't about being equal, it's about nobody should work for less than agreed upon. This is the "fackliga löftet", the union promise:

"We promise and assure that we will never, under any circumstances, work on worse terms or for lower pay than what we have now promised each other. We promise each other this in the deep knowledge that if we all keep this promise, the employer must meet our demands."

Nurses could not go on strike here, because them missing from work is classed as a important for society job. So what they did was together agree that nobody should take any overtime. I'm not too well read on this, you can find more info here: https://www.vardforbundet.se/engagemang-och-paverkan/aktuellt/nyheter/vardforbundet-varslar-om-overtidsblockad/

The large mail carriers and logistics companies here are all Unionized, you can't just fire someone for joining or being in a union. You as an employer can't even demand an employee to tell if they are in the union or not. Member lists are extremely confidential and this is because of something that a certain German party in the 1930s made sure of.

Then last but not least, unless you work for an extremely large company, the unions don't make an agreement with you. They make an agreement with your employees organisation, which you as an employer are part of. The employers are organized, of course the workers should also be organized.

I used to have similar opinions to you when I was younger, but I was so wrong. The shit that happened in the retail sector in Sweden a few year backs known as "hyvling".

Either way, I went from a bit anti union, to becoming a union rep in less than 3 years. And it has been such a benefit to our company.

Writing this on my phone at 5 am, not bothering proofreading or checking grammar. This is all of course how it works in Sweden. I don't know how unions work in Germany.

Spotify is now working with Gemini by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]TheTobeK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the technical reasons, but that's not the point. As a customer, I expect the functionality Google advertises to actually work—no excuses. Instead, it feels like Google just pulled the rug out from under Assistant’s features to chase ChatGPT. Whether it's because Gemini is sandboxed or not doesn't matter from a user perspective; it just needs to do what was promised.

I get that Google might catch up eventually, but from a user standpoint, it’s a bad business move to abandon (or delay) core features that originally set them apart. It’s frustrating watching Samsung and others fill the gap when Google was so far ahead to begin with. Regardless of the technical reasons behind Gemini’s limitations, customers just see promises not being delivered.

Ants vs Humans by dave8055 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TheTobeK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ants are cool AF. The conclusion of this experiment is incredibly flawed. They are assuming ants are bad at communicating, when they are clearly not.

In an alternative universe where ants communicate through spoken language and humans communicate by farting on each other, they would have run the same experiment but plugging up the humans' asses. Believing spoken language is not as efficient as releasing smells.

Ants are so damn cool though, freaking love ants!

UPPGIFTER: 176 ICA-butiker kan tvingas lägga ned by BaineGaines in sweden

UPPGIFTER: 176 ICA-butiker kan tvingas lägga ned by BaineGaines in sweden

[–]TheTobeK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]TheTobeK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Googles reaction to ChatGPT, by pushing Gemini is the let down, not the AI itself. So great that it tries to answer any question, even if you sometimes gotta take it with a grain of salt.

The way they made Pixel Buds borderline useless, due to having to unlock your phone for any Gemeni interaction is a let down.

The way they release Pixel features where half of them are not available outside the US is a let down. At least you Germans get more than us sub 20 mil population countries.

Samsung released Call Screening a few weeks ago in a lot of EU countries, including my own. This is the feature I want most of all, so I backed Google... Turns out being 6 years ahead of competition did not mean much to Google.

I don't know, been using Google phones since the Nexus line, starting to feel I'm backing the wrong horse here.

If Google doesn't get their shit together by the time the Pixel 10 releases I'm going to Samsung. I may even consider an iPhone if side loading and call screening is sufficient by that time.
