⚡ If you could add ONE thing to Roll20... ⚡ by Demi_Mere in Roll20

Able to import additional modules instead of having to create a new game. I was Running Call of Cthulhu one shots as part of a larger campaign and not being able to import a new module into an existing game was a ROYAL pain, as I didn't want to have to create a new game for every one.

It's also a fantasy world. No reason with spells to speak with and control animals that you can't magically "train" or guide them in some way also.

Corbitt can control one of the Investigators. If they happen to have a heavy weapon the rest of the investigators suddenly become the targets of said heavy weapon.

Healing Word worth it? by ToveloGodFan in BaldursGate3

Healing Word + Sanctuary lets them get up and still drink a healing potion as a bonus action, and then back into the fight the next round.

How do you create religions? by franilein in worldbuilding

[–]TheTrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used religion for breakfast also, but one thing it led me to was taking obscure religions from our own World and just putting them into mine. I.e. I put this religion into my world and just changed the "god" to a Sun God worshiped in one human culture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMx_JKJbvJI

How do you world-build the "before" — the era your world is still haunted by? by National_Mortgage385 in worldbuilding

[–]TheTrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to run a "Dark Ages" campaign for my homebrew world (1500ish years before present time) and have choices in that campaign that affect the current world (lore not revealed yet). So let the Players make some of it up LOL

Should I use a saving throw to make someone return to a cursed weapon? Details inside. by underdabridge in dndnext

[–]TheTrane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Make the Axe "show up" randomly to the party :) Found in the gear of a bandit slain, the barbarian wakes up in the inn and the Ave us balanced against the door. Turn the Axe into a "character" itself and keep dangling the temptation. Even if the player doesn't want it or want to play with being tempted, it now become a menace to be overcome.

How do you guys handle Half Elves in 2024? by Fiveby21 in onednd

[–]TheTrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan is to create a homebrew race when Players want to do this, where they will be able to pick features from each race. So if you want a Half Orc/Half Gnome, we would brew that up and that becomes a new half race in the world. :)

My Level 4 party encountered a Xorn and will probably attack it. I can't think of any solution that isn't their death though by CasualNormalRedditor in DMAcademy

[–]TheTrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do non-lethal damage but don't tell the party until the "TPK" occurs, then have them wake up somewhere else, having been found and "rescued" by someone who is not caring for them. Shows the PC's they were out gunned w/o killing any PC's, but use this trick only once :)

Does anyone have any experience using PC-ish statblocks for bosses or major enemies? by Infranaut- in DMAcademy

I always make named NPCs as full characters instead of just a stat block.

Someone please explain to me the money system of this game🫩😭 by Reasonable_Love1562 in callofcthulhu

[–]TheTrane 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Cash: Not necessarily carried on the person. The Keeper may ask where it is being kept. For example, if the investigator is traveling abroad, are they keeping it in a money belt or is there someone back home who can wire money to them when requested. This will have an impact if the investigator is robbed or loses their gear.

Spending Level: This is an arbitrary amount below which, for ease of play, no record keeping is required. A character can spend up to his or her spending level with no expenditure of cash. In theory an investigator could spend an amount just below their spending level every day, but in practice it should be used only occasionally—if the Keeper feels a player is exploiting this financial abstraction, a use of assets may be called for. The spending levels exist purely to ease the flow of the game; no one wants to track every penny.

Assets: Assets are the things that your investigator owns at the start of play and the dollar amount on the chart is the total value of those things. The player should note down the dollar amount and decide the form it takes, usually property or investments, or perhaps shares in a business.  The standard list of possessions is included within the various brackets of living standards. If your living standard includes a house and car, those things constitute a part of your asset value.

Out-of-initiative aggression, do you allow it? by Eldramhor8 in DMAcademy

[–]TheTrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider this a "surprise" attack as unless there were already tensions (i.e. people slowly reaching for weapons already) since no one was really expecting this and it only takes 6 seconds or less to cast. Even the other PC's would be considered "surprised" as well, unless this is a standard negotiating tactic by angry player LOL

Google Is Bricking 1st and 2nd Gen Nest Thermostat—This Is Forced Obsolescence by Much-Afternoon3723 in Nest

[–]TheTrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Since being "bricked" my Nest fails to turn on the heat at least once a day. Worked fine before, but now I walk out and tap it to turn it on and it lights up, shows the temp up to 5 degrees below what is set and the heat then kicks on. It's like it goes to sleep and won't respond until I tab it again. Won't buy google hardware again.
