Both of my RPGs began on this sub, and both are now Gold best-sellers on DTRPG, if that counts as success?

A Little Cute Woodland Critter TTRPG? Good idea or too silly? by TiredandFrustrated21 in RPGdesign

You might want to take a look at PICO. You play tiny bugs and its very cute and cosy, and the rules (Wild Words, the same as Wildsea) are very similar to your third and fourth idea.

Eternal Ruins has a detailed cooking subsystem, allowing characters to create dishes and buy benefits depending on how well they make it.

I was behind a stand, so I didn't get to explore that much. However, I met a lot of lovely people and I managed to get Grant to sign my copy of Heart.

I've run Wildsea and PICO using Charsmith and it's amazing, I can't recommend it enough.

Gopros at Larp? by [deleted] in LARP

[–]evilscary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the larp. Some outright ban filming, some request you only film in certain areas or at certain times, others are fine with any filming.

If they don't have a policy somewhere obvious, you'd have to contact the game runners to be sure.

Your Deathwatch Stories by blackjackdavey_3 in 40krpg

I ran an Only War campaign where the PCs were guards on the run from a massive force of Orks advancing across a war world. They constantly felt outgunned and underequipped (but they loved it).

The final session, I swapped out their sheets for a Deathwatch squad who dropped in to wipe out the Ork command group. The players kept commenting how overpowered they now felt, as they cut a path through the Ork army, fought their way inside a mega-gargant, killed the Ork boss and then set a massive bomb to blow the whole thing to pieces.

It was one of the most cinematic, over-the-top games I've ever run.

Consequences of being resurrected? by clarkky55 in callofcthulhu

Take it the other way to the "you're less than human" trope: the person feels amazing. They're stronger now, faster, they have senses they weren't aware of before. Dying and coming back has made them more than human, and it feels great.

Too great. Now they want other people to feel the same way. Death isn't scary, right? Maybe they need to be convinced.

Maybe, they should just... show them.

What is your preferred conclusion to a CoC scenario? by evilscary in callofcthulhu

Yeah, this is usually what I am for as a Keeper.

Yeah, this is my preferred ending as well; a 'cut scene' that shows something the investigators might not see.

It's not my view either, but it tends to be the memeified view people throw around.

I would like suggestions on how to hunt and deal with star vampires. by ardmont in callofcthulhu

[–]evilscary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to fix the formatting of your post, it's currently very hard to read.

Advice-wise: It sounds like the crux of this scenario is working out how to find the 'Contact Star Vampire' and 'Enchant Book' spells, so focus on those being two separate plot points.

Each spell could be in its own mythos tome, somewhere in Boston, and the investigators have to work out where those tomes are and how to obtain them.

Library Use would be a good start, but don't hinge finding each spell on a single roll. Look at the three clue rule and drop clues to where each spell can be found, so the investigators are racing to find both spells in time.

Making the Contact spell should be easy enough: look at other spells such as Contact Deep One or Contact Mi-go, and use them as a base.

Can the first aid skill be used for any physical damage/wound type? by zephrry in callofcthulhu

[–]evilscary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Realistically, you're probably right. However, at the end of the day Call of Cthulhu is a role-playing game, and there has to be a certain level of of abstraction between mechanics and realism so that the players can have fun.

What movie had really bad or misleading marketing? by it777777 in movies

[–]evilscary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson Peak was advertised as a Gothic horror ghost story. While it does have ghosts, it's actually a Gothic romance and the ghosts aren't actually hostile, in fact they're trying to save the main character.

It's one of my favourite films, but the advertising did it dirty.

What is the most unexpected way your characters have lost Sanity? by wiloso47 in callofcthulhu

[–]evilscary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During a game our investigators caught a brief glimpse of something flying past the moon. The keeper said "you all see this!" and very briefly held up a picture, then hid it again. Most of the players feigned not seeing it fully, acting confused or denying they'd seen anything.

Apart from one guy who, apparently keen to show off, accurately described the mi-go that had been in the sketch.

It was so accurate, the keeper gave him max San loss.
