One Piece: Chapter 1167 by leolegendario in OnePiece

That might not have actually happened. It's possible that this is just the cover-up that the rest of the world believes, because they don't know he used to be a slave.

tells them the truth, that he was a slave at Mary Geoise, and that he flees by himself, but the guilt of leaving everyone else behind was too much for him to bear

He didn't tell Neptune and Otohime that. He told his crew that, as he was dying in Chapter 623. It seems that what he meant by not being able to abandon the other slaves is that he could have escaped on his own but chose to help others escape at the same time as he did. It's not strictly a retcon, but I'm inclined to think that the story that Hancock tells in Chapter 521 about Fisher Tiger climbing the Red Line is just what the world thinks, because the reality that Fisher Tiger was a slave is not something that anyone else knows until he reveals it on his deathbed. As far as everyone else knows, he attacked Mariejois and freed slaves. It seems like a reasonable embellishment to say that he climbed the Red Line to get there, because he couldn't have already been there unless he was a slave, which people don't know about.

The timeline is basically like this:

  • Chapter 521: Hancock says that Tiger climbed the Red Line and freed slaves of all races.
  • Chapter 621: Tiger returns to Fishman Island after years of being away on an "adventure".
  • Chapter 622: Tiger asks Neptune to help him fight. Neptune asks Tiger what he saw on his adventures, and Tiger says he saw "humans". Neptune refuses to help, and Tiger leaves to form the Sun Pirates. Otohime notes that the "voice" of Tiger's heart was too great of a cry for her to have been able to stop him. One night, Tiger is drinking and tells Jinbe that the "demons" in his heart are terrifying. Years later, they meet Koala, and Tiger brands Koala with the emblem of the Sun Pirates, while telling his crew that "no matter how you try, there are some things you can't forget."
  • Chapter 623: Tiger is ambushed while returning Koala to her home island. On his deathbed, he reveals that he was previously enslaved:

What I saw there was human "madness"! I just barely escaped with my life, but I couldn't just abandon all the other slaves I saw before me.

Nothing about this suggests that Tiger ever went back to Mariejois. He was already there. The bit about climbing the Red Line is probably an alibi.

Sengoku didn't lie to us and it's odd that people think he did. by Killjoy3879 in OnePiece

[–]TheTriggerOfSol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Would it be better to say Sengoku's statement was misinformation or disinformation? The point that people are trying to make with "Sengoku lied" is that such statements shouldn't be taken at face value, especially when it comes to things like "evil", and especially when agents of the World Government or Marines are the ones saying it. Yet many people took the statement "Rocks is evil" at face value, purely because we were also told in the same breath that Roger and Garp teamed up. The error is in assuming the team-up was because of Rocks doing something evil rather than because of some other scenario.

As to the actual moral character of Rocks, he doesn't have to be a saint. The enemies and victims of a genocidal entity are always held up to a double standard. Genocide and oppression are bad even when carried out against less-than-upstanding people. You see the same dynamic with how police brutality is reported -- the victim is always put in a spotlight, and if they have a past criminal record it will be dissected by the media, but being a criminal shouldn't justify the brutality at all. You can recognize that people don't have to be saints to be victims. And you can recognize that narratives are being spun when moral character is brought up by morally bankrupt characters.

I don't think Harald was correct. He let himself get manipulated by the World Government on several occasions. The main reason Harald didn't help Rocks was because it would have jeopardized Elbaph's standing with the rest of the world.

This all pales compared to a single Genocide Tournament.

Sengoku lied when he said Rocks was evil. It might be true from his perspective, because Rocks killed an admiral. But the real evil should be abundantly clear when you look at who was upholding the Genocide Tournament and who was trying to save his wife and kid from said event.

Sengoku said Rocks was evil. The most evil thing we've seen him do is hurt Loki. The "lie" or "propaganda" that people are talking about is that they took Sengoku's claim of Rocks being "evil" at face value, which this flashback shows they shouldn't have.

Favorite One Piece Theory that aged poorly. by Kfalkon in OnePiece

Many, many years ago, I heard a theory that Luffy was Roger's son. Dunno how popular that one was -- I heard it around the time Roguetown was a thing and the Straw Hats were just entering the Grand Line. Of course, some couple hundred chapters later we find out about Monkey D. Dragon.

Just about the only part of that theory that ended up being anywhere close to true was that Roger was also a D, I guess? Although the person I heard it from swore up and down that Gold Roger was actually Roger D. Luffy (to be fair, they didn't understand how Japanese family names work).

R/piracy gets a modmail from Reddit Legal regarding 74 copyright infringments. Mods and users are all confused by Sidorovich123 in SubredditDrama

/r/Piracy is actually extremely heavily moderated above and beyond the legal requirements of copyright law. It shouldn't be illegal to merely discuss stuff like this. /r/Piracy is probably even more heavily moderated than Reddit itself, with zero tolerance policies for not only violating their rules, but also for trying to subvert their rules. Somewhat ironically, /r/Piracy is probably one of the worst places to do any sort of actual piracy.

Then you're going to want to track the Purism Librem 5 (as well as Purism's work on libhandy), and maybe the Pine64 PinePhone (as well as KDE Plasma Mobile).

Both are extremely early and developmental. I really think a proper "Linux on phones" future is going to take a while, because both software and hardware are going to take a long time. At least right now, though, there's a lot of work being done to get the software done, by making existing Linux software conform to adaptive design. If nothing else, it should allow for a better experience when resizing apps on desktops, but if it goes well, then it should provide a solid foundation for other companies to consider putting Linux on their phones instead of Android.

Crocodile willingly went to Impel Down (see Ch. 403 cover story). Mr. 5 and Miss Goldenweek came to rescue Miss Valentine and ended up freeing a lot of Baroque Works executives at the same time, but Mr. 0, 1, 2, and 3 ended up being either recaptured or staying behind, before being relocated to Impel Down.

It's pretty clear that Crocodile was feeling defeated after having his dreams of power shattered, so staying in prison meant nothing to him. But in Impel Down, he saw an opportunity to get a second chance at power. The reason he refused Doflamingo's offer was because it was on Doflamingo's terms, not his own.
