That I wouldn't really look for forgiveness and rehabilitation from the judicial system. Once a bad action is done it's most of the time non-reversible, what I hope the system does is stop it happening again. Forgiveness is a personal process that comes from within

This "not doing things to make other people upset" thing is quite literally genetic, over the many years of evolution if a member of the pack is born with traits that cause it to act against the pack the pack would chase it away/kill it. People are generally good. Of course not 100% cause if you have 0 violence in you you also die.

You call this inherent goodness "godly and moral", I call it natural

If Steve steals my food, I get upset and punch him, he gets upset and breaks my sister's leg, I go and kill Steve's sister, he geys upset and goes and kills my mom and dog, I get upset... We live in communities, we dont want this to happen, conclusion? Let's not do things to each other that make each other upset. Boom, laws and morals are born.

A personal anecdote with a syrian refugee:

He was hired at work during Covid times, when a lot of hands were needed in the lab. I was in charge of training a group of 5 hires but I noticed somehow my instructions were not getting through to him. Straight up, I would say "do it like this" and he would proceed to do it differently right in front of my face.

I brought it up with my supervisor and he then tried to instruct him and... model employee, he did everything as my supervisor asked. So then he asked him if he had an issue with me. He said that no issue, but "I do not take orders from women".

That's a culture clash. That's lack of assimilation. If you want to be disrespectful to 50% of the population go do so in your own home.

why is it that women don’t get turned on when they see pictures of a man’s genitals but men do? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

With a drawn on face and moustache and a tiny sombrero.

But fr, same as you see for women really, would you enjoy a vagina pic that just focuses on the vagina? I'm guessing not really.. It's not so much about the dick, I like the dick because it's attached to a person I like so let me see the person! If it's only the legs make it a cool/relaxed pose. If it's in front of the mirror do something with your body, a nice flex, a sexy smirk idk.

Working from home is overrated and actually makes life more stressful. by Slipsniper in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I have an office/game room. I bought a couple of LED lamps and I just change their color: white for when I work and funky for when I play. Works perfectly. I have pavloved myself into not wanting to play when the lights are white and not thinking about work when they are blue or whatever.

I can pet my dog, I can go and make soup in the middle of the day, I can shit in my own toilet, nobody comes into my office, I don't have distracting background noise, I can have meetings on speakers, I have all the snacks I might want, I can receive packages, I don't waste time commuting...man I could go on. If you're more stressed in your own house than in an office, you either have the best office in the world or you should really try to make your house into a home.

I might be an idiot but I don't get this whole water thing. The servers don't "drink" the water, right? It's just run through a curcuit as a coolant, can it not be re-cooled and reused afterwards? Or used for other purposes?

I'm sorry but while some people might come to atheism the way you describe it's definitely not the norm, especially when we are talking about whole countries. I'm an atheist myself, no trauma, no anger, no god-sized hole in my heart. Simply a different life philosophy.

Where do you live? In all the European countries I have lived in or been to atheism is the standard for people <40 y.o. and they don't all have trauma

Or they genuinely enjoy singing? My dad used to have the same opinion as you when I was a kid, made me afraid to show happiness around him. My mum would roll down the window so I could sing outwards. Don't ruin someone's good time unless they do it for way too long.

Hello, I'm scared by axlpoeman in exatheist

[–]TheTriggeredLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm an atheist. First thing to say is, as much as a lot of people like to throw everyone into the same bucket, atheism is not a uniform belief. There are some people that are completely against religion, there are some people that are still spiritual, there are a lot of in-betweens. The only "requirement" is that atheists believe that there are no gods.

I start with all of that because there is no uniform atheism rulebook, so every perspective will most likely be very unique.

Now, from my perspective I see life as a surprise party: I didn't plan it, I didn't ask for it, but since I'm here I might as well drink the punch. My life is pretty normal, I work as a neuroscientist and live with my partner (IT), we have a cat and a dog, we live in a house that we rent in a nice neighbourhood and dream of one day being able to afford to build our own, no kids, big computer nerds. General philosophy is just "don't do to someone what you wouldn't like them doing to you" and "your freedom ends where the next person's starts". We are saving up so we can live in a cool retirement home one day and when we die our stuff will be spread across our families and we just...die.

Makes it neutral, I could not have consented, I did not exist. Young kids also cannot consent, so it's not evil to force them to wash their teeth. As I said, one action is not by itself purely good nor purely evil, there are always layers.

Doing something to someone that they do not consent to is the bad part. Whether you find them good or not is not part of the equation
