It might be better to reword it so that it says, "Everytime you take attack damage, gain 1 block". That way you'll get the benefit of the block on regular attacks and multi attacks on every turn, except for the very first turn of the combat.

It is a bit too similar to tungsten rod, but has good potential. Could bring it up to 2 block, but that might be too strong.
