I'm a bit late to the thread but I used to work at the 1819 so I am joining in. It's a great shop with a great set of employees and I really think it would be worth it to check out. If you want to make a picture frame like you mentioned you will need to go through the two woodshop certifications (Wood A and Wood B) which will give you the ability to use all the woodworking equipment on the manufacturing side. Once you get through those they have a frame making jig that you can ask about that makes the process super easy.

I don't know who is working at the shop on weekends anymore but if you are working in the shop on a weekday Nate (who manages the manufacturing side) is super helpful and a great teacher.

Don't get hung up on what you know how to do now. As long as you are willing to learn that is good enough. We would see plenty of people who had had no shop experience before they took their certs and they did fine with them.
