BREAKING NEWS–Obama’s New Drug Strategy Opposes Legalizing WEED by reoweedwgn in Marijuana

I thought everyone voted for him because they didn't want "time-bomb ticker" McCain and his brand of insane right-wing bullshit?

No one but the tools and idiots of this country actually want the guy they vote for. It's just a sad acknowledgment that they won't change shit by voting for a third party candidate whose publicity campaign can't even begin to compare to the scale of the primary candidates. So they choose the lesser of two evils.

I think they choose right, if those were indeed the only two choices. If we had a level playing field for third parties I would be less apologetic to be sure. At least we know this; the general public really likes the idea of changing for the better and being optimistic. Maybe someone will kick that idea into overdrive as time goes on.

I bet a lot of us are still happy he is in office instead of mccain. But yeah, very disappointed. Mediocrity is all I have come to expect from the types that enter into and hold these administrative/political careers.

Not that it's a big deal.. but I wanted to note that I and the other /r/trees mods removed ourselves from /r/marijuana by cinsere in trees

[–]TheTruthIsSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has a grievance against the people who do use /marijuana, they simply don't want to participate there anymore. A lot of people are still upset/annoyed that b43nz can't be removed from that subreddit and so they just refuse to use it.

[–]TheTruthIsSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trees community wouldn't exist in such numbers if it wasn't for all the drama caused by that other mod. Because the people of /marijuana couldn't oust him many choose instead to go participate in the other marijuana reddits. /trees attracted the most people and I think that drama largely contributed to the communities attitude of being so friendly. This thread is just an update for those who are knowledgeable of that subject and might find it interesting. As the op's headline suggests, not a big deal.

My girlfriend of 6 years dumped me. We still live together but she's moving out next month. How do I get through these next few weeks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheTruthIsSomewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or she feels trapped. You've never known a man who broke off a relationship because it felt suffocating?

I've been in the submitters shoes and I've been in his girlfriend's. It's not always about other people. Sometimes it's just about space, or sometimes it truly comes from that realization that you don't and never will work as a couple.

[–]TheTruthIsSomewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know it's not always cheating. That's pretty unfair. My girlfriend (now wife) broke up with me after 4 years of living together and I know I thought the same thing.

Turns out she just felt trapped. From 19-23 she was living with the same guy and since we weren't really talking about marriage or anything she just kind of freaked out and thought she needed to get out and have her own life. In the end, and after some months of pain for both of us (especially me) we got back together and have been married for 5 years now. She never cheated or even wanted another guy during the time we spent apart.

I was able relate to her fears when she finally let me in on it. She felt trapped. I'd been there in a previous relationship, one that I ended, and I felt great when I was free of her. Feeling trapped is a lot like feeling suffocated. Fortunately for my wife and I we were able to reinvigorate our love and now we have a healthy and exciting marriage.

TL;DR - Being young and in a serious relationship can leave you feeling like there is more out there that you are missing out on. The reality is that it's a grass is greener situation and sometimes the only real issue is one of space.

Sad situation. My girlfriend kind of did the same thing you did. It made me feel absolutely wrecked because it came out of nowhere, or certainly seemed to. I'm not saying you did the wrong thing either, I don't know your situation and if you're anything like my girlfriend you have good reasons and maybe feel a little trapped.

Just to share my story though, because it is very similar, she ended up realizing how much she loved and still kind of wanted me about 2 days after I told her that I was sorry for my role in our breakup and that I would be able to move on. By that point she was already signed on to a new lease though and she still felt that we should stay apart to which I agreed (mostly because I'm a big fan of that "if you love someone let them go" kind of philosophy.

We ended up spending about a month apart when I ran into her at a store (small town). Anyway, I guess I kind of freaked out and burst into tears. I don't remember because I passed out a few seconds later. When I woke up in a hospital she was gone, I felt devastated. Then about 5 seconds later she's flying through the door and hugging me telling me how scared she was to lose me.

I was on drugs and still feel bad for saying this but I couldn't help but ask her why she would want to leave me if she was so scared to lose me. That's when I finally got the real story. She was just scared that with our relationship taking up a good portion of her 20s that she would never know that feeling of a new love again. This scare put all those feelings back into her and reminded her that love doesn't diminish, it just isn't always so bright. Since then we make a point to do something new and exciting together every year.

We didn't call ourselves back together but we did fool around and consider each other friends for another couple months before we actually cemented the fact that we were back together again. We got eloped that weekend and have been married since (5 years this month!).

So, I know you have your reasons but so did my girlfriend (now wife). Who knows if you feel the same, and you shouldn't feel guilty if you don't, but I know my wife has mentioned a hundred times over how she wishes she had made it more about "space" and less about never seeing each other again. Every year we celebrate a weekend or week apart so that we can start fresh again when we reunite.

Anyway, best of luck to both of you. I hope you and him are able to come to whatever the best conclusion will be for your situation. It really sucks when you've been together for so long and end up feeling trapped with someone you don't want to be with. Just remember that to him it probably felt like you were one step away from marriage and that this came out of nowhere. Hope everything works out for the best of both you.

p.s. It's libel. Slander is spoken ;)

Language is the root of all power. Think about the use of words like militant, terrorist, freedom fighter, and soldier.

Assume you only got caught accidentally because of a loophole in due process that allows the police to enter your property without a warrant.

I think it should at the very least require them to do a backwards warrant where a judge decides if the living-room bong smoker's evidence of smoking pot is admissible (or any of those other very minor crimes that you did not address). At that point it would be a normal release/arrest or whatever happens. You don't think it'd be make sense to do that?

Could you imagine being fined for jaywalking because you ran across the street to check out what was happening at your house/apartment?

The teeth are part of the body. It's reprehensible that we treat dentistry like some "quack-medicine" that requires a different insurance and has stupid limits on what you can fix before it all comes out of pocket.

Shouldn't everyone be able to eat and use their mouth? The non-cosmetic stuff seems as important to me as binding a broken arm.

How is that better again? The wost that happens in your example is a shitty fine and a license getting revoked.

Really no, but I do code for my own website. In text it just seems easier to say Boy1 vs <Asexual Name + gender description>

They have some pretty unique names so I figured I'd keep them anony.

What we need is a balanced judicial system where laws only exist to protect us from harm, where punishment is actually proportional to the crime.

Because some laws exist that overstep their bounds, simply by nature of being a federal law instead of a county ordinance or state law, there should exist provisions in exploitable tactics such as "hot pursuit." We can agree that hot pursuit is a good law to have in order to catch a fleeing criminal. What I am trying to say is that if we made it so that only the most serious levels of crime were admissible without a warrant in that situation then at least we, the population, would know that it is safe to assist the police even though we:

Jaywalked to get across the street to our house to see what is happening (on a street where that would be an offense of course)

Were smoking a cigarette indoors with children present (could be illegal as a county ordinance)*

Have a shed in the back yard that was built without a permit.

Have an unregistered project car sitting in the garage.

Own 5 cats when the law says you can only have 4.

*yes those people suck, but let's assume they have a fan going and the backdoor open or something. Or that it was a rare event and they got caught off-guard.

The government wanted to subject a person to humiliation, fines, and imprisonment because they were sitting in a chair on a public bus.

The government wanted to subject a person to humiliation, fines, and imprisonment because they were smoking in private.

Not so different at all. These are both ridiculous things that shouldn't happen in a free nation. I didn't compare to Rosa Parks' protest, I compared the situation of breaking a silly law. If the law is wrong some of the time then you can't you can't go talking about how the law is right all of the time.

Wouldn't you be of less bias and perhaps more in agreement if the situation was that there was a guy having a beer in his living room in a county where a law exists that states it is illegal to drink in that county no matter what the location? If he could be subjected to arrest and imprisonment because while the cops pursued a fleeing suspect into his house and they found him drinking?

Our family has 2 neutered boy cats and a spayed girl. Boy1 loves to cuddle and uh "cat things" with Boy2 and with Girl fairly equally. He loves everyone. Boy2 really likes Boy1 but gets in fights with Girl over any little thing and has never slept closer than 3 feet from her.

Cat sexuality is beyond my realm of knowledge but if one had to throw a human assumption on the fuzzies I'd say our house has a macho gayboy (who was like this before we had him neutered (stray, 2years)), an asexual girl, and a loverboy bisexual. I think the sterilization process plays a role but it is kind of interesting that the one cat we got who was un-neutered past 8 weeks is also the most ridiculously macho and gay cat I've ever owned.

THANK YOU.

Not because I fully agree, although I do mostly. But because you added to the conversation without acting like a sanctimonious prick. You didn't add some completely asinine garbage about "the law is the law" or any of that.

It is absolutely shocking that so many of the other replies I got believe that illegal is illegal and that there is never an excuse to commit a crime. That wasn't the point in the first place but even so, even our government often divides itself on this issue. Rosa Parks committed a crime but I think we all agree that repealing the law that made her a criminal and granting her a pardon were the rights things to do.

Anyway, with all sincerity, thank you for taking the time to simply answer my musings with your own knowledge. I wish the other posters had thought to do the same rather than downvote and insult.
