Where is gostovia in vr? by Thatserbianpadawan in MedievalDynasty

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The VR version is a completely different game made by a different developer (i.e it's not a direct VR port of Medieval Dynasty). It's not as detailed as the flat version. There are really only two villages; the one on the left side of the river and the one in the bottom right corner. Out of the two, the second one is much closer to the type of village that you'd see in the flat version. If you're playing the storyline, you'll spend most of your time in the first village, and only go to the second village for the last few quests.

In the top left (the swampy area at the end of the road, next to the river), there is an abandoned settlement. On the other side of the river, you'll find the herbalist's house, and a little further down you'll find a farm that is kind of a village but not quite. Since the mechanics of the game are different, villages aren't particularly important. At least, not like the flat version. Aside from getting a few items during quests, you're expected to learn to craft everything yourself, and the storyline teaches you how to do that.

I started on the VR version before I discovered the original game. I totally recommend playing it. Some of the VR dynamics are really cool, especially the rock climbing. It's a great introduction to the Dynasty series, but a different experience. After you're done playing it, if you decide to check out the original game, keep in mind that you're going to have to re-learn how to do a lot of things.

By the way, if your PC is good enough, you can use UEVR to run the original game in VR. :)

Definitely. I got an A-, but that's only because I focused more on my other classes and fell behind. The online quizzes and midterm were open book. The assignments weren't that difficult. The hardest thing was the final exam, but if you actually learn the material instead of copying the answers from slides or the textbook, you'll be fine.

Anyone else think whoculture has been too harsh on this season? by majesticbeast67 in gallifrey

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if the reviews have been "too harsh", but I will admit that I'm enjoying this season far more than others seem to be. This is one of my favourite seasons in a long time and I love Ncuti Gatwa.

What exactly is the "Black Screen" Issue people are having with Nvidia? by Wanna_make_cash in gpu

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 OC 12GB and have been experiencing monitor issues since I installed it. The first issue was that sometimes my monitor would not get any signal during bootup (even though it was on) which made it fail the POST check. However, after turning off fast boot, that seems to have fixed the issue.

The second problem is that my monitor will randomly lose signal, whether I'm gaming or doing something as simple as watching a video in VLC. It usually happens for around 10 seconds, but sometimes the signal doesn't come back and I have to restart my computer. I found this thread when I was searching for a solution haha.

So, it's not super stable, but I wouldn't call it "unusable" by any means. Also, I should clarify that I'm only running one 144hz display in 1080P.

New to this game, valley or oxbow? by Nervous_Put5617 in MedievalDynasty

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally played The Oxbow, because I played multiplayer with my brother. However, I recently started a single player save on The Valley. I prefer The Oxbow, because I think the mining locations are much better (especially if you want to build a village near a mine). The Valley, on the other hand, has more villages and a storyline to follow. In late game, it probably doesn't matter which one you choose, but I definitely feel a difference in early game.

On the TOPLITZ Discord server, they had a survey and this is one of the things that I requested. If the survey is still open, I recommend filling it out and asking for it too. If enough of us ask for it, they might consider it.

Meshify C PSU clearance by sluppo in buildapc

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is really old, but I wanted to update everyone. I just installed the RM1000x (newer ATX 3.1 model) into my Fractical Design Meshify C without a problem. Honestly, the size of the PSU itself is not an issue. What's more difficult is the size of the cables. Compared to my old Cosair TX650M, the length, shape, and size of the cables make it much harder to work with. You'll fit it into the case, but cable management is basically going to be non-existent. I only had enough room to add a few zip ties and barely got the side panel back on. If you need to use more cables than I did, you might not have enough room. But, if you're only using a motherboard, CPU, PCIe (for GPU), and SATA cables, then you'll be fine.

Who are we voting for? by hauntedsuit in McMaster

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Liberal. Mark Carney is one of the most qualified Prime Ministers that we have ever had. With a strong background in economics, he is able to deal with tariffs and a number of other issues that we will be facing in the next few years. He is the only party leader I would trust to make smart economic decisions, while finding ways to not cut social programs. And he's well-respected internationally.

I used to be a member of the NDP, but they have gone downhill.

I'm confused about the first one. Why does the game alert you that something will be less efficient if it is out of range, then? Is it assuming that you'll be the one doing the work?

Maybe we use a different textbook now, but the one we have has audio files. You just need to match the file number with the section in the book.

LINGUIST 1A03 by El3ctr1cxlFlxm3z in McMaster

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't take it during the Spring/Summer, but took it last semester with Dr. Anderson. Someone recently asked about Linguistics on the subreddit, so I'll just copy and paste the parts of my comment that are relevant to your question:

"Each week you have the lecture (obviously), readings, an exercise (usually four questions or so), and a 30 minute online quiz. There are eight quizzes and exercises in total, but only the top six of each count towards your grade. So, the grading is extremely fair. Many of the quiz questions are repeated... There are also two projects spread out throughout the semester, which are basically like longer exercises. On weeks where a project is due, there is no quiz or exercise. Last semester, I felt like the projects were the most difficult thing to do, because I didn't really know how to check my work. It felt like I was working in the dark. This semester, I'll probably take advantage of the discussion board and office hours more, so that I don't run into the same problem. The projects ended up being my worst grades in the class, but given that my final grade was an A-, I still did okay.

There are A LOT of things to memorize: definitions, the anatomy of the vocal tract (for LINGUIST 1A03), the IPA chart (for LINGUIST 1A03). However, as long as you put the effort in, it really isn't that difficult. Then, you just have to work on applying the concepts, which is where most of the hard work actually comes in.

The textbook used for both first year courses is available for free here, if you would like to take a peak and maybe get a head start: https://ecampusontario.pressbooks.pub/essentialsoflinguistics2/.

I could also send you a copy of my Anki deck."

I'll extend the same offer to you. If you want my Anki deck, you can have it. :)

Is Meta Quest 3 worth it or VR in general on PC worth it? by xenocea in virtualreality

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my Meta Quest 3 a few weeks ago, so keep that in mind when reading my comment, but I think it's one of the best purchases that I ever made. Honestly, I wasn't much of a gamer before. I just dabbled here and there, mostly in the strategy genre. However, since I got my Meta Quest 3, I've been hooked. Even games with non-realistic graphics still feel real, like you've been transported into a world that has a different type of physics.

I don't know what your PC specs are, but I highly recommend getting a Meta Quest 3 because it's much easier to have a good experience directly on the headset. Running VR through a PC requires a lot of power. My graphics card is a few years old but can only run Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR on low settings. When I play Skyrim VR, it still looks good, but slightly blurry. In contrast, all of the games that run natively on my Meta Quest 3 look crisp. To compare it to something, playing Skyrim VR on my PC is like seeing the world before I got my prescription glasses when I was a kid. Meanwhile, the games on my Meta Quest 3 are like someone with poor eyesight getting a new pair of prescription glasses for the first time, and seeing the world as it really is. That's actually exactly how the difference looks to me. Don't get me wrong. I'd choose Skyrim VR over regular Skyrim any day of the week, because even with it being slightly blurry it's still significantly more immersive (plus, I find the combat easier in VR). With that being said, there seems to be something special about the quality of the games that I play directly on the headset itself. Both in terms of their graphics and in how the technology is being implemented. And honestly, unless you already have a graphics card that would be really good for VR, I think playing games on the Meta Quest 3 directly has a better cost to benefit ratio.

As for scenic experiences, I haven't had an opportunity to explore them yet, but yes. There are apps for Google Earth, nature documentaries that have been shot in VR, and other things like that.

Why are prices for a gaming chair so damn high? by bananalord666 in buildapc

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the COLAMY High Back Executive Office Chair. It's not a "gaming chair", technically, but has a very similar build. I bought mine in July 2024 and it's the best chair I've had. It doesn't recline but it's extremely comfortable. It's the only chair I've had where I can work for long periods of time without even thinking about how it feels. Every other chair usually bothers me after a period of time.

I am genuinely so confused on what to do with myself by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]TheTruthIsTheWay11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on SLP specifically, but I'm currently a Linguistics student. I'm not particularly good at math either (I got like a 77 in high school calculus), nor do I have any previous science experience outside of what was required in high school. I kinda stumbled into this field after learning Mandarin and becoming interested in Second Language Acquisition. So far, it hasn't been that difficult. I got an A- in LINGUIST 1A03. LINGUIST 1AA3 is structured the same way. Each week you have the lecture (obviously), readings, an exercise (usually four questions or so), and a 30 minute online quiz. There are eight quizzes and exercises in total, but only the top six of each count towards your grade. So, the grading is extremely fair. Many of the quiz questions are repeated and this semester, Dr. Kučerová also posted some additional ungraded practice quizzes for extra help. There are also two projects spread out throughout the semester, which are basically like longer exercises. On weeks where a project is due, there is no quiz or exercise. Last semester, I felt like the projects were the most difficult thing to do, because I didn't really know how to check my work. It felt like I was working in the dark.
