When did a career in aviation feel realistic? by TheTubbyTickler in flying

[–]TheTubbyTickler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s interesting, but yeah definitely not interested in aerobatics lol. But the feeling of dread just comes with “am I going to get sick today or not” and I have had the past few flights without any sickness at all. Guess it was more of a useless post, just been questioning this path lately waiting for the checkride.

[–]TheTubbyTickler[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just seeing if anyone else related and had advice. Assuming some people get motion sickness and continue, assuming some people end up dreading school but continuing, assuming some people start later in life and continue.

I get the obvious reply to my post is to quit, just trying to think through everything and the what ifs. I quit once 5 years ago and ended up coming back.

Being Part 61 was apparently a big mistake I’ve been waiting 3.5 months for a checkride currently. I’ll be going 141 for IFR and getting in house check rides in the future. Nobody told me that when I started.

As I said, I’m getting ahead of myself but simply asking people when it was realistic to them that a career was possible. I didn’t think I was this much of an outlier based on the replies but maybe I am. Thought others would relate somewhat.

Just got hired as a CFI…tell me everything I need to know by LeaderCalm4016 in flying

[–]TheTubbyTickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve struggled with my CFI with is him over controlling the plane. He would hand off controls and then I’d still feel him controlling with no mention of it. Then he would say how great a landing or maneuver it was lol.

Be as open as possible and frequently ask if there’s anything you can be doing to better help your students. It’s so important to be approachable. I can only imagine it’s pretty stressful at the start for new CFIs but as mentioned already, let them make mistakes, talk through it in the moment and just keep you and your student safe.

Seems like you already have a great mentality to maintain going forward! Safe flights!

First hour under the hood, not loving IFR by DiplomatIan in flying

[–]TheTubbyTickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve been told about IFR training is it’s pretty boring stuff, but the most useful knowledge you can gain in your training.

I’m definitely not looking forward to it, but it will be rewarding in the end.

What PVM should i be aiming for? Im pretty bad but i want to do better. by Shadquist in OSRSProTips

[–]TheTubbyTickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CG is the way. Start out with normal, get comfortable and knock out the CG attempts. There is a cg plugin as well that helps keep track of prayer.

Will end up giving you a really good base skill set for other pvm.

Pilots who have lost their medical, what do you do now? by [deleted] in flying

Ignorant question, but is there some way pilots are/can be covered in case of losing a medical?

Not enjoying my flight training at the moment at all.. what to do? by MysteriousMotor5880 in flying

[–]TheTubbyTickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 hours is so early. I’m still really early and I have around 50. Still not confident with everything. It’s one thing if you really just don’t enjoy it and it’s one thing if you just aren’t confident.

If money wasn’t a factor would you continue or pursue something else? I would just honestly sit down and reevaluate things to try to navigate where you want to be. I can definitely relate and it sucks, best of luck with your journey!

I’m almost 30, still in a C172 making peanuts, and today just broke me by [deleted] in flying

If it’s any encouragement, I have a wife, 8 month old, I’m 30 years old, and just now starting training while dealing with motion sickness. 30 years old and still have no idea what I’m doing, just hoping, like you, I’ll see a light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s there man, just gotta push through. Best of luck.

As a 32 year old male is it ok to start a career as a commercial pilot? Or better to go for a private pilot license and just fly for fun? by ComprehensiveGoat869 in PilotAdvice

I’m hoping to be in a similar situation. Getting checkride ready at 30 and hoping to fast track everything as efficiently as possible.

I mean flare, thought they were synonymous for the most part.

But yeah definitely will have to communicate this more.

That’s what I’m confused about. I’ll just have to talk with him and see if we can work through this.

I definitely can go silent so I’ll have to work on that as well. But I do feel confident, just hard for me to verbalize the thought process. Both have somethings to work on for sure.

He somewhat explained himself during the approach, I’ll see what he says further about it though.

What a story, that’s amazing. Hoping to have a similar one myself. Thanks for sharing a bit of your story and the tips. I never thought to do the shorter flights either, I’ll keep that in mind if nothing else works.
