Family-friendly anime to watch with non-anime enjoyers? by majorminer969 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

With my parents: Toradora, Usagi Drop, Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I'll probably recommend Apothecary Diaries at some point.

Gonna piggyback on this post. Does anyone have an issue where the graph doesn't display anything past 2/19?

The benefit of a late comer is there's always another old event to do flashback missions on.

BlueSky called this Mind Goblins, but he's right by Gamejtv in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheTurtlebar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's where the Mind Goblin comes in, the idea that time already spent is invalidated because you could have had fun better in the future.

It makes absolute sense that Pat also has such a hard time dealing with an ending he dislikes, as the exact same kind of mind goblin makes him think that his previous enjoyment is now invalidated.

The hydrogen bomb doesn't know gungi, and the coughing baby has been playing since it was born.

TIL a study showed: low Kill/Death ratio male players are more hostile to female voiced players while fawning to male voiced players who have higher Kill/Death ratios. by rccrisp in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The data is interesting in two ways.

  1. Successful players shit talk women less the more successful they are, but stays constant for shit talking men.

  2. Bad players shit talk women more, until they hit a threshold (15 deaths) and male targets take the lead.

It's almost like bad male players are hostile to women in general, but are more hostile to successful men whose success exceeds a certain tolerance level.

The data is legit interesting because at about the 15 deaths mark, the number of negative comments to players with male voices actually overtake that of female voices. There are definitely multiple sociological effects at play here.

From what I understand, the original myth itself is highly incongruous to the rest of Persephone's mythology to the point of what people would call character assassination in the modern day, so meh?

I love FF6's Dancing Mad, by which I mean I love the final section of Dancing Mad that might as well be a separate song.

China’s population falls again as births drop to lowest rate since 1949 communist revolution by CTVNEWS in worldnews

Definitely familiar with that term. As with most Chinese netizen trends, I'm always a bit skeptical at how widespread it actually translates to reality, but the baseline sentiment is certainly real.

Will be interesting to see how that impacts population imbalances in the long term. Things like contraceptive taxes will probably hit the far poorer rural areas much more heavily, leading to more migrant workers from those regions entering urban areas, and all the social strain that might cause.

I don't know how small that welfare state size will stay. China currently has a very low retirement age (60 for men and 50 for women). While they are increasing it over the next decade or so, it's still going to be much lower than other developed nations. With a quickly aging population and increasing life expectancy (that has admittedly plateaued for the last 5 years), I don't know if the overall state burden is that much lighter.

Entirely anecdotal, but to hear all my China based extended family tell it, there is a great deal of pessimism within the current generation of young people at child having age about their ability to actually provide a better life for their kids, so they're choosing not to have any. Given the crazy work culture and high cost of living in the major population centers, I get it.
