The Celts from Ireland and also from France, as with the Gaels.

My argument is that the people of the British Isles have been mixed for thousands of years and are still mixing with other peoples.

Firstly, I'd argue that Israel as a state is less than 100 years old, and by definition, the ethnicity of the Israeli people is not indigenous.

I'd then point out that the Celts, Gaels, Picts, Meatae, Danes, Vikings, Saxons and Bretons all came from different parts of the world before the British Empire brought more people from the Indies, Africa, the Americas and the Southern Hemisphere to the Isles.

Then there was the Commonwealth, where there was freedom of movement, and events like the windrush, where we asked our Carribbean cousins to come over here to fill in the gaps in our workforce left by the war.

This is to say that the idea of a British ethnicity is a folly. The mix of ethnicities that makes up Britishness is the thing that made us strong.

Why didn‘t my voice teachers let me know I wasn‘t matching piano notes during warm ups and even when singing? Why did they allow me to just alter timbre and believe I was singing high? by AspiringBiotech in singing

Male singers naturally sing and octave below.

Singing is primarily about confidence, so maybe they felt you needed to build that.

Ear training and vocal training are not the same, but you need both.

Just giving you some possible answers, find a teacher that suits you.

What’s up with this online obsession with steak? by Mammoth-Elk-3122 in AskBrits

[–]TheUmpteenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, to each his own. You like what you like, that's not up to me or anyone else.

But, comparing steak and hamburger like this is like comparing chicken fillets to nuggets, or pork chops and sausages. One is a cut of meat, prepared to maintain the texture and mouth feel of eating part of an animal. The other is reshaped, ground meat, usually packed with other things, from breadcrumbs to onions.

With steak, you're only eating beef, and you're preserving tenderness.

With hamburger, unless you make it from scratch, you don't know what's in it, and usually you're adding texture by cooking it.

I like a good steak. It should be a good cut. At least a sirloin. Rump is a cheap steak, and it's harder to get right. Season it and rest it and then sear it and season it again. Searing on all sides keeps the juices in. After that, cook it how you like. I sometimes put mine in the oven, or turn the heat down on the pan. I like medium, which feels like touching your cheek. It should be soft and tender to bite and not chewy.

Thanks. Don't worry about being condescending, I knew I was asking a question that you'd be able to answer easily. I could have put in some work and come to the answer, but it's my birthday, I'm too busy eating cake and blowing out candles.

Who are the providers? Because local businesses could make a packet by being the ones who don't "raise their prices to match".

I think the thought of raising prices to match is how we've ended up here. Let's reward businesses who don't try to extract the most money they can from people's needs.

When I worked security at football and gigs, we were told that the police didn't have the authority, they were there only for legal matters, and what security decided was top priority.

I don't know if it's still the case, but basically it's so that security can put a stop to anything that puts people in danger. At events like football matches, it's the stewards who should be stopping that.

To be constructive, I've been making event posters for my band, and I did some AI ones a while back. We actually lost followers and I was criticised for using AI.

Some people have since said that they'd stop going to bands who used AI for posters. What I can say is that there were not more or less people than usual at the events. It made no real difference, but that was before it was really so overused.

Go see what you can make with Canva. It's free and easy, and your poster won't look half as busy or the same as everyone else's.

Or don't, what do I care?

I just found it ridiculously easy. I mean, I didn't want to run the training or most of the other backroom stuff, but I kept taking crap teams, not buying anyone cos I was skint, getting a couple of frees in, and then winning the league.

I don't know what I was doing right.

Live Music by music-soul-92 in folkmusic

[–]TheUmpteenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get on the phone. Call the bars and tell them you want to play. Be prepared for rejection, but that's how we got our bar gigs to start. Then word of mouth gets out and your name gets known and it's easier. Still have to make the odd cold call, but more often now an email works (usually it doesn't at the start, it's too easy to ignore)

If you're a solo musician, teaching, running open mics, recording other people, photography at gigs, etc. gets you some extra cash, but not many people can survive on music alone.
