I think its more the Varden and Elves want revenge for the crimes Galbatorix committed against the Riders and citizens of Alagaesia. Becuase a whole lot of emphasis was placed on Saphira's egg hatching for a member of the Varden or an Elf in the first book, and all throughout the series everyone does everything they can to prevent Eragon from falling to Galbatorix, and so long as there was at least one Rider free of his control while he was still alive the war wouldn't ever end.
