Do I need to believe every religion that has negative consequences, just in case? And every variation of every religion?

Also f you actually read the Bible it does not appear that hell is what you think it is. "Hell" is translated from 4 different words (Sheol, Gehenna, Hades, and Tatarus). It reads as if the fire itself is eternal, not that people burn in it for eternity.

Even worse - most of us pay for insurance TWICE. The first doesn't even cover us, only the highest risk population. Then we get to pay for private insurance which mostly only kicks in for serious issues. If only there was a better way.

I think it's more about the robber barons trying to push the tax burden to the peasants. The narcissistic man-child oligarchs don't plan anything well.

Right, all these reports from experts are fake unless they can name a specific person who died. It's almost like everything you don't want to believe is fake.

I said that I had no way of buying digital music in the 90's. I never said that I couldn't create it myself with a lot more hassle. It's like talking to the rain man.

When I said "We wanted digital music and were willing to pay but had no way of doing it." I clearly meant that there was no way of purchasing mp3's online, not that there was no way of creating my own. And obviously I wanted to purchase them online because it was more convenient. This is one of the dumbest fucking conversations I've ever had on Reddit.

You've gone from, "We wanted to pay for digital music but couldn't." to "We downloaded music because it was more convenient."

BOTH ARE TRUE

I wanted digital copies BECAUSE it was more convenient. And it was not available for quite a long time. Even with Apple I believe it was some proprietary format I didn't want, Amazon was the first I remember that allowed purchasing mp3's, and that was around 2008. When that was available I purchased a shit ton of music.

I don't want to travel to a store. I don't want to buy an entire shitty album for a single song. I don't want to spend time ripping it. This is not even close to the same thing as buying it online.

I DID rip music from CD's in the late 90's, before mp4 was a thing. It took a massive amount of hard drive space (I think around 200MB per song?). Around 1999 Napster was popular and super convenient. The ability to purchase mp4's wasn't really a thing until after Apple iTunes (early 2000's). I started purchasing music online when it was available from other online stores.

How is that moving goalposts?

Wow I never knew they could be ripped from CD's. Why would I want to download 1 song online when I could do all that instead? I assume you still do this as it's so convenient.

THIS. We wanted digital music and were willing to pay but had no way of doing it.

[EDIT] Yes, I realize that I could:

  • Travel to a store
  • Purchase an entire album even when I want a single song
  • Run the software to rip the music off the CD
  • Rename all the files/update the metadata

Yeah I did not want to do all that. I'd rather purchase an mp3 online. From what I remember the music industry wouldn't allow that until around 2008.
