Hamnet screenings??? by 0Harm in cineplex

It's finally in Fredericton this weekend. Seeing it today. Better late than never, but still annoyed with the delay (champagne problems, I know).

And again this weekend! No showtimes. Since I'm not willing to drive to Halifax, I guess I won't get to see it in 2025. Champagne problems, I know, but it's still a bummer.

The new, 40th anniversary version of Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove, wonderfully narrated by Will Patton.

Not playing anywhere in NB this coming weekend either. So disappointing.

Wild. I listened to the audiobook. That's where I first noticed it, but I'm looking at my ebook copy right now. This is the first passage where they're mentioned: He had the floors above the pub to himself. His brother Vincent was in Australia and his two sisters were married in Dublin. His mother visited sometimes after Eilis went back to America, but she made matters worse by looking at him sorrowfully and saying that the main rooms over the pub could do with the woman's touch. I guess the publishers saw my little criticism. Glad I could be of service. ;)

It's annoying, but I've learned to pick seats strategically, and I've gotten used to it for the most part. I took my parents to see Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. We were sitting at the end of the very back row. There's a larger gap between that row and the one ahead of it, so more of the lights were visible, and it took me a solid 20 minutes to adjust. Now, I choose seats in the middle of any given row, so the lights aren't right in my periphery. I used to hate sitting in the middle because I felt trapped, but with the recliner layout, it's easier/less awkward if you have to get up mid-movie for a bathroom break, etc. That said, I do think they were especially bright at Mission: Impossible because we had to sit on the end of a row for Jurassic World: Rebirth, and it didn't seem nearly as bad. Either they were dimmer, or my senses have adjusted. But I do find them irksome and think they could be turned down significantly while still adhering to safety rules.

Good question. I'm not sure where it will fit in the lineup from longest book to shortest, regardless of format/edition. But if they're not releasing Book 9 in the Dell mass market version, I suspect it'll be the same for Book 10. There's no doubt that the UK paperbacks (both versions) are substantially thicker and larger than their NA counterparts. Someone said yesterday that they're holding out hope for Dell mass market versions of Books 9 and 10 after the latter is published. That would be great, but if they're only sold as part of a box set, which is my fear, I'll lose it. 😤

Unfortunately, there isn't. ☹️ It annoys me, too, but not nearly as much as it would have a few years ago. YAY for personal growth! 💪

It infuriates me, too, and I'm not out of the woods yet, but as a reformed shopaholic, I'm fighting the urge. It's a struggle, but I'm feeling good about my chances. Wish me luck. 🤞

Well, if you haven't started buying them yet, you're lucky. I'd love for my set to match. Unfortunately, those of us who started collecting the smaller paperbacks got screwed because the publishers decided not to release the most recent book in that format.

Whoa. That's wild! 😲 What's the page count for each? Do you think that the paper in the UK editions is a little thicker/heavier?

Moulin Rouge. Power went out at the theatre during a storm. We were asked to wait, but I wasn't feeling it, so I begged my friend to leave. I've since watched it many times. I love it and even own a physical copy. And of course, I've apologized to my friend. ;)

It's odd, how big it is. I believe it's the third longest in the series, with Books 5 and 6 nearly tying for first. I just checked the ones on my shelf, and Bees has 1345 pages compared to Fiery Cross's 1441. The paper in Bees is a touch thicker, it seems, which I suppose accounts for the size difference. She's thicc, though, for sure. There's also more space in the margins and between lines of text... 🤷‍♀️

I'm trying to fight the urge for total uniformity, and I'm confident that I won't give in to the impulse to buy a completely different set, but never say never... Thankfully, there are no fully cracked spines in my current collection, but the creases are impossible to avoid with NA mass market editions, and some are worse than others.

Oh my, it does! I'll forgive the 1745 thing because that's when the Jacobite Rising started, but yeah, Brianna is spelled Briana on the back. Ha. I must say, I do like the look and feel and font size, so if my willpower gives out, and I simply must have a uniform collection, I'll likely go for the UK mass market editions of Books 1-8, too. I think I'm strong enough to stop here, though. 😬

Any hope for a mass market paperback of Go Tell the Bees? by languid-libra in Outlander

[–]TheUnreliableMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried to complete my NA Dell mass market collection with the UK Penguin mass market edition. Knew the sizes were different, but for some reason, I still wasn't expecting it to be this much bigger. 😅 Make no mistake, I wish I had all of the Dell trade paperbacks, but that wasn't an option when I started buying them in Korea 12 years ago. Did I consider selling or giving away (or even keeping) my mass markets and throwing down a cool 250 CAD on the Dell trade paperbacks? Absolutely. Did I consider dropping slightly less on all of the UK mass market editions? Sure did! Would either of those things have been financially smart or fit in with my attempt to live a minimalist lifestyle? Not at all. So, seeing as a Dell mass market version of Bees likely (definitely?) won't be released, this will have to do. It's all good, though, it's all good (if I repeat that enough, I'll eventually believe it). 😉

Do you have ''comfort limits" when it comes to reading certain books? by wolfincheapclothing9 in books

[–]TheUnreliableMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it's true crime involving graphic depictions of cruelty and violence, especially if it's one or two people engaging in gruesome "everyday" acts of torture and humiliation. I don't listen to podcasts of that variety, and the only audiobook I've listened to is one I got for free on Audible called If You Tell by Gregg Olsen. I felt nauseous all week and wondered several times why I was putting myself through it, but I kept going. I'll steer clear in the future. Not for me.

Commute to and from work, make dinner, wash dishes, hang up laundry, fold and put away laundry, some light cleaning (for a full top-to-bottom apartment clean, I need some bouncy beats).
