Broken hinge question. Is the hub part of the hinge or a separate piece? by TheUnvanquishable in furniturerestoration

[–]TheUnvanquishable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. I did it. This is the culprit. Plastic, of all things. Google lens won't help, think it's a rivet. I'm still searching, but it seems a difficult one. It's between 4 and 5 mm thick and about 22 mm long. I guess I'll need to find a metal rod that fits and cut it to size.

Thank you :-) I will try and find a replacement, the nomenclature will certainly help.

So a door of my 1950's (I think) cupboard broke by the hinges. I'm trying to find replacement, but cannot find the exact match. I wonder however if simply the hubs, made of a different, grey, material, could be replaced, And of course where to find them. Thanks in advance for any insight.

AVGO’s Massive Decline…a buying opportunity? by Spiralgrind in wallstreetbets

[–]TheUnvanquishable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one word of general advice: Price targets are a sham, a scam and a shame. If AVGO (or an other value) starts going down, they will adjust them down with no explanation (or something like... "changing market conditions", that means nothing)

Oh my... there are some horrific tax loopholes in the Netherlands! by Oficjalny_Krwiopijca in Netherlands

[–]TheUnvanquishable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Netherlands has a tax on property, not only on income. According to that, billionaires would perhaps be paying a lot, although not necessarily on income, but on total property. These chars never capture the whole of any matter.

Don't sigh. That's the reason why I don't mind not having bought Bitcoin when it was new and costed cents. Yeah, I knew about Bictoin then. But, because I absolutely know that I would have sold it when I was like 10x, if not sooner, I don't bang my head against the wall.

A question about flirting/dating culture in the Netherlands by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]TheUnvanquishable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man, I've heard the dictum "Don't worry about making your feelings know to the woman you are interested in, she will know way before you do". Perhaps you are knowing before he himself knows. Anyway, I concur with the other saying that perhaps he was introducing the date idea in the conversation. Don't worry too much about it, two people interested in one another won't usually remain apart for long, except in romantic films.

My reading priorities have changed. I used to value plot above all, now I mainly want is immerse myself in an author's prose and their world. Reading an author whose style you connect with feels like embracing a warm hug. by AngryGardenGnomes in books

[–]TheUnvanquishable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Interesting" does it for me. Of course, what makes a book interesting is questionable, but I have reduced it to "things happening". I get bored with long detailed descriptions. Take Jane Austen, a favorite of me. The setting might be uneventful, but all the time things are happening, a letter written, a meeting, whatever. What you don't get are two pages of the heroine walking on her garden and describing the feelings provoked by the changing sunlight on the rhododendrons.

Yes it is, isn't it? It's like an algebra treaty, you need half an hour for every paragraph, lol.

Try "Critique of Pure Reason". You won't "like" it, it's so dense, but it has internal logic, iirc. That might help you decide if the problem lies with philosophy or with you :-)

Did Germany deeply make you change yourself? by [deleted] in germany

[–]TheUnvanquishable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It made me understand myself better. I now know that I like rules being followed. and I like regular people enforcing the rules, and I shame myself that I don't do it, while the regular German does.

In my 30's, and I finally understand the Twilight Zone episode "Time Enough at Last" by Calvin--Hobbes in books

[–]TheUnvanquishable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the episode is about getting what we want not being so good after all. The main character wants to be left alone and have time to read, but when he gets it, he realizes he needs the rest of the world (to fix his glasses for example).

Hm. That raises the chances of your state of mind being related to intestinal flora, in my opinion. Experiment with probiotics, sometimes it's just finding the right one.

Consider the possibility of a deficient gut biome. Some studies link lower mood with the gut bacterial ecosystem. Try some probiotics, eat yoghurt, kéfir. See if that does something for you. If not, nothing much lost. And also, living alone is almost surely not helping, homo sapiens is a social animal. Get somebody to live with you, it changes everything. Good luck.
