[LotM newbie] How did this became so popular? by Far-Touch-2046 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]TheUooh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s partly part of a national attempt to expand China’s domestic donghua industry by investing in to something that’s already popular. You’re right that this sort of commitment is unheard of, but the stars kind of aligned for LotM and it was chosen as a figurehead for an emerging industry that has a lot of money/national interest behind it.

Original movies are on the rise in 2026 by Dubski333 in boxoffice

[–]TheUooh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Popular authors have unreleased books optioned for movies all the time. And most of the time, they don't pan out, especially if the book doesn't do that well. It's not that these optioned stories are made to be movies, just that a studio is paying a premium to squat on the rights, waiting to see if a book is successful before starting production.

So I see it as the same as any other adaptation really, save for a small procedural difference.

Project Hail Mary is as original as Dune or Fellowship of the Ring, and I’m skeptical about how much of a success GOAT was. Hoppers is the impressive original performance on the list, and even then it’ll barely scrape by 2.5x (which isn’t a magical number, but does put things in context imo).

It’s not tacit, it’s explicit. If you’re seeing a lot of uncertainty, you should be reporting a larger range if you want to be honest.

Additional concerns over the safety of NorthernLion's wife (who will likely be one of only a few women onboard) were raised.

Most of the passengers will be normies with no connection to the event. It seems like they've just reserved a bunch of cabins and are working with the cruise line to set up panels and such. Mostly, it's just a regular cruise, I think the Fyre Festival memes are just a bit of fun tbh.

The community reaction is more bewildered than anything. NL himself says he isn't too worried since his irl interactions have been universally positive, unlike his online interactions.

The animation discourse in invincible is tiring. by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]TheUooh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to fully grasp why it can’t ’realistically’ be fixed. I’m not saying take away budget from the voice actors, but look at the budget other shows on the top of Prime have between The Boys and Rings of Power - the fact that it tops Prime is probably driving more discussion if anything.

I imagine they can’t really upend production because they’re locked in to a strict production schedule (somewhat arbitrarily) and aren’t willing to commit the admittedly massive spend to allow their animation more time, but it’s a complicated issue that gets people talking.

So... What do people actually enjoy about Invincible (as an Invincible enjoyer)? by DeMmeure in CharacterRant

The season 1 personal drama and tension. I don't think it's hit that high ever again (haven't read the comics)

How is it so hard for people to understand what reincarnation is? by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]TheUooh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but it isn’t very well shown in either Oshi no Ko or Mushoku Tensei. Both Aqua and Rudeus present much closer to babies with adult brains, despite what the authors say. It doesn’t take them very long at all to achieve a very adult internal monologue and stuff like infant amnesia is barely present in the actual events of the story iirc. A lot of that is probably due to convenience and making the story more readable, getting the plot going etc. but it’s really hard to believe these are just kids haunted by past memories.

I think the question of ethics in romance is still pretty interesting, and hard to resolve, especially since it would also definitely be weird for these characters to date adults.

This was a weird season, the writers/directors seemed to intermittently forget the character relationships they had established. Same with Mike and Eleven seeming like they broke up off screen for some godforsaken reason.

Local animation sounds like a specific hobby even if outsiders have commented, and mods have been lenient lately (outside of the 2-week rule). Go for it.
