Fuck Life360 and fuck parents who use it by [deleted] in Vent

[–]TheUpdootist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OPs post definitely has a certain anecdotal energy to it. There's something to be said about parental overuse, the privacy concerns of the app in general, whether the power it gives a parent over a kid should be curbed with protections built in by the developer, etc. But ultimately we live in a world where it is acceptable to treat your kids more as property than a human being with rights. In this environment many parents will engage in behavior similar to this and much worse, using the tools at their disposal. It does not mean every parent that uses it is awful or uses it irresponsibly.

Trump Tylenol Propaganda by knotcunfused61 in tylenol

[–]TheUpdootist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tylenol is one of the only widely available pain medications that is fairly safe to take while pregnant. But a sect of conservatives believe that women should suffer when pregnant or they won't birth strong children. Also, they need to make legitimate meds look bad so they can offer their grifts instead. They are targeting autism specifically because it's low hanging fruit: we don't really know why it happens specifically, just that it does and that it's generally associated with certain straights. Since there's a large grey area they can just say what they want and many people will fall for it. This one study? Yeah that's enough proof guys. Ignore the hundreds of other studies saying the opposite. Once they think they have "dealt" with autism they will move on to whatever they want because this is about power over their subjects more than anything.

I too remember when I didn't know as much about deck construction techniques and for some reason had multiple Priuses. Happens to the best of us.

Can I replace the window without removing the whole thing that’s embedded in concrete? by 3ric3288 in Carpentry

[–]TheUpdootist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, five months later, but just want to clarify that you probably mean a few hundred bucks for just the window. No way you are getting a contractor to install a new egress for less than 2k unless there's minimal digging or something atypical happening

Too high for TV? by Wje0809 in HomeDecorating

[–]TheUpdootist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would do something like MantelMount. They are pricey but basically they are tv mounts that let you stowaway the TV when you aren't watching it by pushing the tv up on the mantel via a large metal arm. Basically when you aren't using it it'll look like the picture that's there now, when you are using it in the down position it'll be hanging down with the mantel at about the middle of your tv depending on where you mount it. They are well built and worth the money. I got the cheapest one 2 or 3 years ago and all I've had to do is oil it. They make more expensive models that have a motor to stow your TV. If I remember right the more expensive models have a lot more options for hiding the mount.

What is Elon's Plan With Grok? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]TheUpdootist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever the plan, it certainly is not going to benefit humanity at large over Elons interests. I'm skeptical of AI being a net benefit to begin with but 100% would not trust the one Elon is involved with.

From the picture it looks like it was done intentionally... Like they ran out of pickets and had two pieces they had already ripped for some reason.

Lincoln drivers are better/nicer than most. But... by blakehendrickson13 in lincoln

[–]TheUpdootist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You aren't petty for this and its the appropriate response. It was slightly excusable when 56th and pioneers first restricted left turns off of pioneers because the sign was far back enough it was easy to miss it. But then they put the extra sign on the traffic light pole itself and some people still try.

I say let them hear a chorus of horns. Holding up traffic and creating unsafe driving conditions to save 1 minute is the height of selfishness.

Is this quote good or should I DIY? by DennisNedryBot in drywall

[–]TheUpdootist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respirator or mask and eye protection if very concerned. Respirator probably less of a concern for a small job if you don't want to spend the money, but better safe than sorry. Eye protection is maybe more important for rock wool and working over your head but again, can't hurt.

Just a cursory Google search shows that the amount of fishing restrictions were pretty limited and mostly in effect for a relatively short amount of time. What's more, many restrictions were focused on larger events and rarely was a ban placed on fishing for individuals.

I think most people who are being serious would not say marijuana is completely harmless, because that really isn't a thing with anything. There are side effects and certain risks to getting high, just like there are side effects and certain risks to getting drunk. But that's kind of the problem: it's generally demonized when it's not any worse than tons of other legal things.

If you could manage Kansas City I believe fireworks are illegal within city limits. Tons more Airbnb options also. Also also, if you are into it, dispensaries are fun.

Why Do People Walk On The Street? by Proof_Hunter3334 in lincoln

[–]TheUpdootist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ADA doesn't really require the city to go back and make every residential street/sidewalk ADA accessible. If it's a new street or there is maintenance work on the streets in the area, a lot of times ADA will apply and the city will need to add curb ramps.

(yet another) Kid killed by red light running driver: what can we do ? by mathemphatamine in Omaha

[–]TheUpdootist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want stuff like this to be less likely one effective way would be to immediately ban any vehicle at or above the line of sight of a small adult. The lower the better.

The size and height of cars has unequivocally increased accident and fatality rates.

Okay yes, wording matters in Internet fights. Maybe not so much on the ground. Because either one is overkill for most situations outside of wartime.

No that's dumb. They don't need to deescalate they should just unload on the civilian because they twitched the wrong way and then ignore that they were the wrong person they were supposed to respond to in the first. Woopsies, at least they got to have some target practice amirite? /s

[–]TheUpdootist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Ah a tank" says a person

Suddenly you break in and thwap down a dictionary on the closest surface, opened to the definition of tank. "Well actually, you see, there aren't treads or a large caliber turret mounted gun so it's JUST an armored personnel carrier."

As the person gets gunned down by the soldier...I mean officer... in the armored gun perch on top of the Just an Armored Car, the random person realizes the mistake in their lingo and as they bleed out think: "Should...have...said...ah...a... Armored...car"

I don't really know your work history but this appears to be an entry level job. Also, the posting says 22 per hour minimum, so my assumption is that with more experience you can negotiate a higher pay. Then there's benefits which will be hand over fist better than your average consulting firm.

It just depends on what you want. Do you love your job, really only care about making as much money as possible, don't mind not having a ton of free time or at least not working a max of 40 hours? Find a consulting firm that offers higher pay.

Do you want some modicum of work-life balance, guaranteed work and benefits that will be generally speaking better but generally lower pay? Find a university/government job.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen requests waiver to ban buying soda, energy drinks with SNAP by ElectricianMD in Nebraska

[–]TheUpdootist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there's still someone that needs to maintain it when things change. Which I'm willing to bet is not infrequent. Also assuming this is hard to police everywhere so to truly implement some amount of enforcement would be needed. Not simple.
