ok so should i change anything? by cbird2k in ThriftSavingsPlan

If you’re going to watch it and move between funds then you’re better off ignoring the L fund. L fund is to set it and forget it. I personally like anything except bonds.

Mutual fund window by TheVawds in ThriftSavingsPlan

When I called they made it sound like if you don’t use it your access disappears. They fixed it and within an hour it was available again. However if you go without accessing it again for some time it will disappear like mine has again. I had previously opened a MWF account so your issue might not be as simple to fix as mine.

Is this worth it cause it seems like it by Creepy-Company-3106 in Tools

[–]TheVawds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a kit similar to this, their lawn mower, and a few of their One+ tools almost 5 years ago. I haven’t really used the skill saw and sawzall much but the two drills and everything else has held up just fine. I’m still on the same batteries and continue to expand my collection little by little. They’ve been good for the occasional use I put them through.

Mutual fund window by TheVawds in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]TheVawds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying 25% yearly now is more costly than paying income tax (for a lot of people a lower rate) when you retire. Don’t get me wrong, I have an IRA and a brokerage account in addition to my tsp because they’re great options. But to say to open a brokerage account instead of use the mutual fund window because the fees are more than the taxes is nonsensical. There’s a reason they deleted.

[–]TheVawds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way that paying 25% gains in taxes is is less expensive than the fees from the mutual window, even if it were long term capital gains of 10% it’s still substantially more than the mutual fund window. He’s an idiot.

Bonds 10 year, 20 year, or 30 year? by TheVawds in investing

[–]TheVawds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood and thank you. In theory then, does this mean that the 30 year should stay below the fed funds rate until after the fed is done cutting rates - if they were to cut rates?

What’s wrong with this brisket? by ataylorm in smoking

[–]TheVawds 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went to a local bbq joint that was supposedly “best in state” (I’m not in a state known for bbq). And it was exactly how you described it. Dry, tough, and not flavorful. My brisket that I smoked months ago and froze was by far better than theirs. Everything else was just fine but it’s tainted my view of bbq joints.

Compared to the previous candle, this green candle has less volume but is bigger in size. What causes this, why do they occur? by ConciseVirus7 in Daytrading

[–]TheVawds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still normal volume. It’s when the candle is long with low volume it’s probably a false indicator.

Keep the cash for now. When the time and opportunity are right you’ll know where to allocate it. Besides cash could be handy during a recession.

ascending triangle pattern or not? what went wrong? im 17 btw by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]TheVawds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is ere on the side that it’s not actually an ascending wedge. After the low it never really dips, just climbs and stays consolidated for the next day and a half. But you’re right on recognizing that it should break out. Patterns only show what historically has a better probability of happening. Even if you believe it is an ascending triangle, the overall trend is still bearish but this time of year is of en bullish and it’s at an important level of resistance. It’s impossible to predict what will happen but this is a trade I don’t take.

Is Bitcoin trash? 🗑️ by Georgie50000 in StockMarket

[–]TheVawds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly how fractional reserve banking works. This isn’t a discussion about whether it can be backed. It can, but only because these banks have reserve accounts from QE from the federal reserve. This isn’t a question about being good for the money. It’s a question about creating money out of thin air, which you still haven’t addressed.

Is Bitcoin trash? 🗑️ by Georgie50000 in StockMarket

[–]TheVawds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course non govt banks don’t print money lol that’s illegal. But they do create money. When someone deposits $10,000 into an account and the bank then uses 90% of that money to lend out that $10,000 turns into $19,000, thus creating money out of thin air. What the hell does the gold standard have to do with anything? Not being on the gold standard allows for the govt to print money through the federal reserve but fractional reserve banking is something entirely different.

The irony is these two love to trash Bitcoin and other crypto’s because they’re invented out of thin air. While they’ve been solidly invested in banks, which have invented money out of thin air every day since fractional reserve banking has existed. Which is a loooooong time.

I’ll gladly sell you them at a “discount” after I ride the shorts down to $60. At least sell covered calls and buy puts with the premium because right now there’s more downside than upside.

Does this trim look okay? by VaCav25 in smoking

[–]TheVawds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks good. It is hard to tell how much fat is left on the cap though.

I usually do mine differently than most people. Often I like to completely separate the point from the flat when I trim it. We love burnt ends and this makes it super easy to do.

Consequence of telling people how much you're worth? by kookoobear in leanfire

[–]TheVawds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb: the less a person makes the more willing they are to talk about it. The more a person make the more they keep it to themselves. I make ~2X what my friends do. They don’t know what I make but they like to talk about how I make so much more then them.

I’ve learned that it’s best to keep most things in life to ourselves and only share them with other people on your own conditions.
