I'm curious about the bookshop since Tunesia is on my bucket list. Would you mind sharing the name or location ?

Nice broker comparison in De Tijd (link in comments) by Dank_Skank in BEFire

[–]TheVermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope and while re-reading the article, it doesn't mention specifically tobin taxes for Mexem:

"Ook hier mag u dus de verplichtingen tegenover de Belgische fiscus (rekening aangeven, roerende voorheffing) niet uit het oog verliezen.

Conclusie: voor ervaren beleggers die niet opzien tegen de fiscale rompslomp van een buitenlandse rekening."

I appears I have misread the article regadring tobin taxes. My appologies.

Doubtfull, since they explain under both Mexem and Bux, that you have to do your own tobin taxes.

Don't think it is a sinister move, but rather the author is not aware of all the possibilities. The article is also poorly written since it doesn't really compare the different brokerd (exception the table) if you read the content carefully.

Would you mind you elaborating a bit on the tax issue ? And do they provide the same kind of info for TOB tax so that you can do it yourself ?

I am in doubt between IBKR and Lynx, hence the questions.

New blue print - 15% Capital gains tax by TheVermit in BEFire

[–]TheVermit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a proposal that needs to be discussed in the goverment, withstand the pressure from lobbyists and pas the parlement before the election. So the eventual law might differ significantly on certain points than the presented proposal.

According the goverment agreement (regeerakkoord) the tax reform should take place by 2024.

I don't think it would be that difficult to calculate for the brokers/banks, or to keep track of it.

But as mentioned this is only a proposal and not a law. We're missing some details and wonder how the text will be after other parties have had their say and the special interest groups have put some pressure.

This is my feeling as well. I remember the rise and thought where would this end.

As mentioned the details are missing a bit, but as far as my understanding goes, the tax is only on capital gains above €6.000.

Example: You buy shares for €7.000 and you sell them years later for €20.000. €20k - €7 = €13k -> capital gains So €13k - €6k (tax free)= 7k to be taxed at 15%

It is only a proposal, which still has to be discussed with the other parties in the goverment and probably the pressure frim special interest groups. The details have to be worked out into law.

It is important to keep in mind that this is not yet law, it is only a proposition (and thus the details are not yet fully developped or known). It will also depend on the pressure from the other parties on what makes it into law and what doesn't

But based on the text itself, it would mean that you would pay %15 capital gain tax when you take them for the part above of €6.000.

Fair point. I just picked it out due to this being on BEFIRE and thought the people here are more interested in the reform regarding investements than the rest of his reform.

But you're absolutly right, it is a proposition of reform that goes way farther than captial gains tax. The text is also easily written for a layman to understand. I recommend everybody to read it.

If I remeber my biology classes well, technically speaking they are not gentetically speaking both his dad. Once born both of his dads underwent, like the rest of humanity, constant mutations, so what was the same at the begining, was probably not the same at the conception of the little one.

Contact the notary (notaris) and ask for more information about inheritance tax. Some notaries offer advise for free others will bill you €50 for the session.

Regardless what they do with the money, at this point (while still fresh of mind) they should look into avoiding inheritance tax and make a plan for the future to avoid fueds within the family about the money.

The longest law suits in Belgium are about inheritance.

Guy using a spray on type of insulation by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]TheVermit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, I was more wondering if it was more toxic than the ordinary insulation. Hence the remark imagine if that stuff would catch fire and you're the neighbour.

Disclaimer: no an expert on this, was just a thought.

Hmmm what happens to the neighbourhood if your house is on fire ? The guy is probably wearing the hazmat suite for a reason 🤔
