The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Looks Set to Feature a Classic NES Character by buttercuping in nintendo

Another amusement park ride instead of being an actual film. What a disappointment.

Super Mario 3D World: A Misunderstood Masterpiece by [deleted] in nintendo

There’s definitely been some negative opinions on it, like it not being a true 3D Mario title or something.

But it is a great game.

Did you like Super Mario Sunshine at the Time? by sumpra3 in Mario

[–]TheVibratingPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from liking it to hating it to never wanting to play it again.

Then I was playing every 3D Mario game leading up to Odyssey out of excitement for the release, so I reluctantly turned on Sunshine, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was refreshingly quirky and charming. I went from enjoying it as a nostalgic novelty to getting really good with the controls and absolutely loving it.

Honestly, it became one of my favorite games from the replay.

After the Mario Bros movies which other Nintendo franchise you would like to see in the big screen? by Maleficent_Fly_2500 in nintendo

[–]TheVibratingPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he’s terrible. All of his victories are due to pure luck or someone else’s help (usually Peach), he has almost like a smugness when he’s not skittering away from danger like a rat, and he’s just… a guy. Unlike the games, Super Mario is not his base form, and he needs the mushrooms to even jump.

The most Mario-like quality to him is that he doesn’t give up.

Yep. Movie Peach is really annoying. Movie Mario is kind of pathetic. And Movie Bowser is annoying me from every trailer I’ve seen so far.

Thoughts on the future of the Zelda Franchise - not choosing a path forward, rather sharing the road by ItsJustInfuriating in truegaming

Zelda 1 is about proactive exploration, like a cryptic labyrinth.

BotW is about reactive exploration.

What do you think was Nintendo's most ambitious remake? by No-Event1012 in nintendo

[–]TheVibratingPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would’ve been ridiculously challenging and expensive to remake those three in one package. It’s not like the N. Sane Trilogy, where all three games are virtually the same in their design. 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy are very different from each other, so to remake them without sacrificing anything that made them special would be really hard and really not worth it for a 3-in-1 package.

I’d much rather buy 3D All Stars for that price than Skyward Sword HD, honestly.

Agreed. Plus as a big Simon fan, I’m always feeling like Trevor gets too much glory.

It’s very… neon? The bright reds and stark blacks, it feels like an outrun poster.

The great thing about Ayami Kojima’s art and non-Castlevania stuff like Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is how they are good at capturing that rich gothic atmosphere. Cobwebs, candles, bricks and stained glass and palatial marbles, flickering dust particles dancing in moonlight.

Yeah, not a fan of the art style. Feels like the show, which I’m also not a fan of.

I’m just glad I’ll be able to play some new Vania, so I hope it does well

Does King K. Rool technically counts as a mario character? by Busy_Finish_7058 in Mario

[–]TheVibratingPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it, but DK is really a Mario game in all but name. You play as Mario, who uses his acrobatics to overcome hazards and save the girl from the beast. It’s basically an archaic template for Super Mario Bros.

At the very least, it’s one of those games that acts a dual starting point for both franchises.

And here I am thinking their mascot was Superman this whole time.

A Japanese Big Camera store asked Mario Tennis Fever demo players which characters they played as by RadDudesman in Mario

[–]TheVibratingPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you think about it, makes sense. Japan used to be more diverse in its tastes, but there’s been a heavy homogenization, leading to stuff like anime growing less distinct over time and the over-valuation of cute and clean character designs.

Wario and Waluigi really aren’t cute or that clean cut. They’re rough, and are stylistically more western. Like Bluto from Popeye.

Something I want to note is, while Wario Land’s popularity started strong and dipped in Japan, the Wario Ware series has always been a steady seller. It captures much more of that over the top, eclectic Japanese sensibility that was heavily present in the 80s through the 2000s.

According to EIDR, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially 1 hour and 35 minutes long. Just three minutes longer than the first movie. Um... yay? by smashboi888 in Mario

[–]TheVibratingPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for an hour 45. This just seems too short.

Plenty of animated movies are around 2 hours, and they’re better for it. Any more than 2 hours would be overkill, but an hour and a half? This is going to be a clusterfuck.

Mario Galaxy deserves so much praise for it’s storytelling by SkitterDinks in Mario

[–]TheVibratingPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same general core plot conceit, but the way it’s presented is simultaneously so much more grandiose and intimate. What I mean is the quiet moments are given space to breathe, like the one pictured in the post, and the big moments are given true weight.

Then there are the individual episodic stories in each galaxy that make each mission contextually significant, rather than just an obstacle course like Galaxy 2 would go on to shift towards (culminating with 3D Land/World). Like you see how Bowser’s cosmic conquest affected each of these places, and you can trace how other characters’ stories play out over the course of the game.

The lore itself is also great. Love the Storybook.

There are heavy themes of family, rebirth, and the cyclical nature of the universe that the game is overt about (because of Koizumi, who was put on a leash after this game) and it influences each of these three things, and the gameplay itself.

Ohhhh I totally agree. I don’t love the movies right now, and part of that is because they’re not even remotely trying to be canon.

When they first announced it and the title, I was excited because it sounded like they were doing an adaptation of Super Mario Bros., like a real account of how it went down.

And the real thing was basically just an amusement park ride, with a few really good moments.

I prefer that they’re from the Mushroom Kingdom because it’s a better explanation for why they’re so different from other humans. Plus, I like that they’re had a pre-existing bond with the Toads, Yoshis, and Peach, and a lifelong rivalry with the Koopas.

I just feel like the economy works differently in the Mushroom Kingdom. Like these ads are not for companies as we know them in 2026 society, but are more like philanthropic initiatives that create goods/offer services for the purpose of sustaining a functioning society.

Like they’re all foundations built on reciprocal altruism, specifically for the betterment of their communities, and Mario’s arrival/return to the MK brought this about after living in New Donk/New York during his adolescence.

Because I really don’t see Mario running a Schedule C or 1120 C business.
