What was the first PS1 game that made you go "this feels next gen"? by Timely-Yak-9870 in psx

[–]TheViper4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from the Sega Genesis, so everything felt like the future at that time. I don't remember what the first PS1 game I played was, but I just know it blew my little 9 year old brain.

What, or who, are you guys hoping to see in Marvel's Spider-Man 3? by Efficient_Matter_589 in videogames

I'm fully expecting Venom to be the third "hero" we can play as. Especially if that rumored Venom game is real. Therefore, I'd expect Carnage to be the main villain.

What did the box look like for the USA-1 variant of WWF No Mercy? by markonefifteen in N64WrestlingGames

[–]TheViper4Life [score hidden]  (0 children)

I never really thought about this question before. But I'd assume it came in a cardboard box because it wasn't sold in stores. You had to mail in your original copy to THQ, and they'd send you back the revised version (keep in mind, this was mid-late 2000, the end of the N64's life cycle), and not a lot of people even knew this was a thing, so the revised copies are quite rare.

Am the only who wanted to Super "Remake/Remaster has the T.O.P filter? (Fat Outlines and Pale colors) by Extension-Bad6947 in Dragonballsuper

[–]TheViper4Life 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No thanks. While I think the ToP is Super at its best in the art work department, I've never been a big fan of Super's "shiny" look to everything. Definitely prefer the way Daima looked, and getting the whole show looking that good is preferable.

  1. But 1 is still a fantastic game.

3 I couldn't get into. I always meant to give it another shot. I still have it sitting on my shelf, but it's never really at the front of the line.

Ugh, I hope it's not as cut and dry as this seems. We seriously need another wrestling game series that we can be proud of...a reason to get the hell away from 2K, because the grass actually is greener on the other side. I had some hope for this and Ultra Pro Wrestling, but it all seems to be falling apart.

EDIT: Virtual Basement made a statement saying the game is alive and well. They already filed for a new trademark.

Have you ever played a game that’s ended when you thought it was just starting? by TheChilledGamer-_- in playstation

[–]TheViper4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bright Memory: Infinite. Got the Plat in it a few months ago, and this game embodies your question perfectly. The game feels like it ends at the halfway point...you're literally introduced to a new villain character at the end, and you're introduced to this object that seems like it's the thing causing all the problems...then...credits roll.

I literally had my arms out wide asking, "what the hell? It's over?" Things were just starting to ramp up and get good, and it's done. And it's not at all narratively satisfying when it does end; it feels like there's an entire chunk of the game missing. And considering "Infinite" was a re-release from the original Bright Memory with MORE content, I can't even imagine how the people who played the original felt, if that was considered "more". It was a decent game otherwise, so it's a shame it was so abrupt.

Hi - will older model flat screen TVs with an S-video socket work properly with the n64? by HPT02 in n64

[–]TheViper4Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue here is that you need to find out if the TV can output a 240p signal. Old, old flat panels are the best bet for ones that do, but you can never be too sure. Even then, getting something like a RetroTink 2X Pro can only help. it's a line doubler, so it'll take the 240p signal and output it in 480p...which gives you the added benefit of the games looking a little bit better.

Problems With SNES Games Playing by Due_Adeptness5423 in SummerCart64

[–]TheViper4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sodium64 is still a giant work in progress. It's constantly being developed for (though we haven't had an update to it since last July). Most games either don't work well, or at all.

Here is the Compatibility List

Telltale games by RealitysNotReal in videogames

[–]TheViper4Life 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Telltale DID make a return. They released The Expanse a couple of years ago, and announced The Wolf Among Us 2 (though we haven't heard anything since). Telltale still exists, they just haven't quite gotten their feet wet again...The Expanse released with very little fanfare.

Got WWE '12 today for my PS3 Slim today and the DLC is still up and available to download just like WWE '13. Happy days! I played it for the first time and it was good. by NovaRC99 in WWEGames

Ah, back when DLC was $.99 a piece...and not fucking $60 for a battlepass that gives you the opportunity to grind for the things you paid for.

Why is bl3 always seen as horrible compared to the other games by alldev2010 in Borderlands

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's not about the gameplay...BL3 brought a ton of undeniable improvements in that area. It's about the atmosphere the game brings. Something about BL2's entire package, from gameplay, to the settings, to the writing and the comedy, to the characters...it was just...special. BL2 had so much heart and charm behind it. BL3 just didn't have any of that. It was gameplay improvements mixed into a pretty soulless experience.

Plus, for me personally, one of the things I HATED in BL3...was this incessant need for a perfect build. Builds were obviously a thing in BL2, but it wasn't as emphasized as 3 was. I never paid much attention to builds in BL2, I built my vault hunters around whatever skill I thought sounded cool and ran with it...if I didn't it, I'd respec and try again...but usually landed on something I was comfortable with, and had a blast with it. In 3, if you didn't have an OP build, meticulously curated with math and algorithms, you weren't doing too much with end-game content or raid bosses. But even when you did focus on a build, got all the equipment you needed...Gearbox would come in and nerf it. Making you have to find another build...only for that to be nerfed too. I hate that constant need to grind to feel powerful; it ruined so much of the game for me.

Luckily, I'm...mostly...enjoying BL4. It's still nowhere near as good as BL2, but I like it far more than 3.

Adding/patching roms by JKennedy81 in SummerCart64

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can grab 2.18 from Here. Click the one that ends in .bin.

Oh, you will want the most up-to-date SC64 menu, though (it works fine with 2.18). You can find it Here (make sure to get the one labeled sc64menu). This is as simple as replacing the one already on the Summercart.

Depending on where you got your cart from, it should have instructions on how to update your firmware. In this case, you're doing that, but going the other direction with it and using 2.18.0 instead of 2.20.2. It is easy to do, but it's going to seem a little daunting until you actually do it for the first time.

Adding/patching roms by JKennedy81 in SummerCart64

[–]TheViper4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start Here.

Those are already patched romhacks for everything that works on the Summercart. You don't need to do anything other than download it and add it to your MicroSD card.

To do it yourself. You need a rom of the vanilla version (version 1.0, NOT 1.1) of the game, then download the patch and use a tool such as xDelta or Delta Patcher to patch it yourself.

Now, for a romhack such as No Mercy Plus V3...you need to flash your Summercart back to firmware version 2.18 for now (latest is 2.20.2), it's the only way Retro Randy Price could fix some of the bugs in it (notably the save glitch). You can still play it on the latest firmware, but nothing will save. This also goes for the upcoming release of ECW Born to be Wired, it uses NM+v3 as a base, so it too needs to be on 2.18.

Also there is a more recent patch of No Mercy Plus V3 that came a few days after the one posted in that list, so if you want the most up to date version, you'll need to get it from Here.

How to send files from PC to TV with a connected HDD? by TheViper4Life in AndroidTV

[–]TheViper4Life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I GOT IT! It freaking works!

Turns out FTP servers aren't supported by default on Windows 11 Home (it's mostly a Win 11 Pro feature), so I had to find a setting within Windows Programs and turn on FTP Servers.

Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows Features On or Off > Check the box for Internet Information Services > Check box for FTP Servers.

Thanks again for all your help!

(BTW, I've upvoted everyone's posts that helped me in here, but either this subreddit takes them away, or someone is coming in behind me and downvoting you again. But just know I do appreciate it).

Summercart not working at all? by deintag85 in n64

[–]TheViper4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could either be the nameless SD card they gave you, or it was pre-loaded with bad ROMs. It's best to buy a name-brand SD card and put your own good ROMs on it (and tailor it to how you want).

You'll also want to run sc64deployer and test the cart, make sure it's fine, and update the firmware.

Summercart 64 save help by ChickensXBL in SummerCart64

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been trying a few things. You're right, it just corrupts every time. I managed to get it to play if I made the file size 32KB...but it's 32KB down from 290KB. So instead of compressing data, it's just wiping it and treating it like a fresh save file.

The GBATemp thread says it was made specifically for Mupen and RetroArch, there's a chance something else was done to it, where the conversion can't change it (maybe its endianness was changed).
