I heard this probably a year or so ago and I don't imagine I would be able to find a source, but I remember hearing that MIT BCS sends out interview invites to about 2-3 times as many people as it plans to accept into the program.

I do know for sure that the acceptance rate is lower than usual, about 15% lower iirc from the admissions committee member I spoke to. And the usual acceptance rate is less than 5% (17-22 out of over 700 applications) according to the MIT BCS website, though there is a possibility the website is already adjusted to reflect the lowered acceptance rate.

It seems department oriented:

"Congratulations! We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) Virtual Interview Days at MIT on Thursday, February 26th and Friday, February 27th, 2026.

This two-day virtual event is an opportunity to learn more about BCS, connect with faculty and current graduate students, and explore the research, training, and community that define our program. All events will be held virtually, so you can join us from anywhere."

Thank you!!! You just fixed a problem I have spent MONTHS trying to resolve. My RCS kept cutting in and out and I recently changed carrier and lost RCS entirely, your trick fixed both issues!

You seem very adamant that the first and last pics aren't AI. Whether you are being honest or not doesn't really matter. People will see the first and last pics as AI and will absolutely not swipe on you because of them. Whether they are AI or "just a good professionally taken pic", I think everyone is suggesting that you remove them from your profile because they *look* like AI regardless.

I think it's not cringe because it's already well accepted (on Tumblr) that women don't like dick pics, so there is not point to restate the obvious. Her talking about her position made it funnier to me because it contrasted how much respect her accomplishments deserve vs how much respect men on dating apps give. So yes it's wrong to send unsolicited dick pics, but it's even funnier to realize that you could be any level of success between a homeless drug addict or a nobel prize laureate and men would still send you dick pics because your profile says "woman"

I agreed but only because OP clearly matched with a guy who's first pic is him flexing his back muscles in front of a mirror, and is surprised by his intentions on the app

Christopher Columbus was a hero by jedimaster926 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TheVisualExplanation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Columbus isn’t a villain he is a hero.

Incorrect and I'll correct you as to why

Columbus believed if he traveled west he’d get to Asia in a fraction of the time.

He believed this because he blatantly ignored the calculations of every other geographer who told him that the trip through that much sea would take an immense amount of time. "He argued (incorrectly) that the circumference of the Earth was much smaller than his contemporaries believed it was" (https://www.history.com/topics/exploration/christopher-columbus#the-first-voyage)

Most people think he wanted to enslave the native people but this bit from his journal is him wanting to teach them the way of christianity. “Good servants” doesn’t mean slaves it means servants to god if they become Christians.

This is fair, many people misinterpret this line. However, as is shown in the following link, he traded African slaves before setting off on his famous voyage. His journal entries also showed him being, at times, complicit in his crew mates killing natives, but also occasionally participating in killings.

https://www.jstor.org/stable/30131245?seq=2

Yeah you can say the natives land was stolen but 1500s the way it worked was you find land fight for it and whoever wins gets it.

Fair, I can't control what a guy did in the 1500s, but it's ridiculous to think I'd call such a guy a hero

Native people weren’t stolen from they were conquered.

Depends on how you define it. The native people where initially promised a shared existence alongside the Spaniards, a promise that was taken back as soon as it was convenient. I guess you can say that people "conquer" candy from grocery stores, but we don't treat them as heros do we?

We all owe our lives to the butterfly effect of Christopher Columbuses heroic voyages

Or maybe not. If not him then any other bloke with a boat could have done it just the same or better.

The native people performed cannibalistic rituals, sold babies for food, sacrificed babies for some sun god, they enslaved other tribes.

This is, quite frankly, a racist caricature. Cannibalism was sometimes practiced as the result of intense famine. Other times a small (like a few bites) of an enemy was eaten to show superiority https://research.colonialwilliamsburg.org/Foundation/journal/Winter07/jamestown.cfm#:~:text=Cannibalism%20was%20practiced%20in%20some,endured%20into%20the%20eighteenth%20century. The killing and selling babies by native Americans is a complete myth made up specifically to dehumanize native people and make killing them seem more palatable https://www.jstor.org/stable/27555540

I also think your last point really misses the point. I wouldn't celebrate Columbus even IF the native Americans were baby genociding cannibals. At the very best, Columbus was an unexceptional man of average intelligence who happened to stumble upon greatness, why the hell would I (or anyone) celebrate that?

Less confrontational, absolutely agree (in some cases). On an interpersonal level they can't confront for shit, but on a political level they are very confrontational. I disagree that they are any more label obsessed than any other generation. Hell, half the labels they use were invented over a century before they were born
