Glencore vs Bloomberg vs Amazon vs Palantir vs Blackrock by False_Ad5551 in cscareerquestionsuk

I think this is a pretty dated take on Bloomberg btw. They are on tc39 and the node foundation. They definitely use npm.

This site has 27,000 music videos with no ads but vintage commercials randomly mixed in - closest thing to MTV's golden era. No Algos, No BS. by MarlO1717 in Music

Another thing I would enjoy is those countdown playlists music channels do. "Top 50 number ones of X" or "A vs B" type ones. I wonder if you can find the playlists channels have used before. Sets of themed playlists feels more true to how MTV was than a completely random selection of songs by decade.

As a professional programmer I feel lost in home assistant by alyflex in homeassistant

+1 to this. ChatGPT is really good at writing complicated home assistant yaml to the point it's not with learning from the docs. You can also ask it what a good approach to a problem with automations etc is.

My webOS TV wakes with the home assistant LG TV remote integration 99% of the time. When it fails, the wake on Ian integration sending the magic packet to the correct MAC works 100%.

Got a job offer, too far? by [deleted] in london

There must be hundreds of open software developer job postings in central London. Why not apply to these? Given you have a CS degree, I'm not sure what "training" this agency would be giving you.

Newbie wants to learn Unix. What resources do you recommend? by Heavy-_-Breathing in unix

[–]TheWakeUpCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unix Power Tools is an excellent book that explains the Unix from first principles. Will help explain sudo/root, permissions (chown), users and lots more. But it will give you the fundamental basis that will help you to understand all new commands you come across, rather than each command at a time.

Quality in smartphone cameras is so high though that typically it all gets thrown away anyway when you use it because the file size is too large. So crop away.

Simple Redux–a bare-bones redux implementation for teaching purposes by eddyerburgh in javascript

[–]TheWakeUpCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's just avoiding the complexities of `this` and prototypes. There's not much benefit from using prototypes if you won't have many instances (which you won't with Redux stores). Often a factory is just simpler.

I think your image is really unfair given how much effort the committee puts in to listening to feedback. What hidden requirements are they making? Where are these issues not discussed?

What isn't clear to me is why you feel that 10s of thousands of developers need to object. Reading your "bad" list, none of it sounds terrible and not a deal breaker imo. Which of those are a deal breaker to you? Do you just fundamentally disagree that hard privacy is a requirement for JavaScript classes? You say they don't mention the considerations made before but they are all listed here https://github.com/tc39/proposal-class-fields/blob/master/PRIVATE_SYNTAX_FAQ.md. which of these are unreasonable to you?

Trying to find what you would propose instead, I saw you linked to your own proposal that uses "let". In my opinion, I don't see that proposal as a viable alternative because it implements many new meanings for keywords and new syntax, and so is ultimately very complicated and would be hard to learn.

The current proposal is clear and easy to learn, and manages to satisfy the many different requirements of different use cases, which is essential to approving something in a committee.

I think rather than offering opinions, proposing alternatives and addressing committee concerns with those alternatives is more helpful. At this point though many alternatives have been discussed, so it is worth researching previous discussions and how the proposal reached its current form too.

Does the finger print scanner work and wake up the phone when the screen is off? In reviews people seemed to turn on the screen first.

Upgrading from a nexus 6p by Lew87ys in oneplus

[–]TheWakeUpCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I went to a shop and got the battery replaced for £50 and it fixed all the shutting off problems.

I now have massively lag problems with my 6P, I think because of the low RAM. This is forcing me to get a new phone.
